Known for making killer top shelf Android based smartphones, OPPO has for a few years now also been in the tablet market and their newest entry, the OPPO Pad 2 has released down under.

Coming in at 11.6 inches, the LCD screen is vividly stunning. So much so you could be mistaken that it is LED.

OPPO uses Dolby Vision for smarter display adaption to the content being viewed and this is combined with a 144Hz refresh.

The model STG received to review has 8GB RAM and a decent 256GB storage.

Running the show and processing the data we have a powerful Mediatek Dimensity 9000 chip.

While the RAM is decent for an Android tablet at this price range, you can actually increase the memory, up to 16GB if you have the storage space free and need that extra for super multi-tasking, high end gameplay or content creation.

But here’s the semi-downside to your digital hoarding, the OPPO Pad 2 does not have a storage expansion slot. You get 256GB and cannot add to it via microSD.

There is no LTE / 5G option either. So for travelling you’ll need to rely on hotspotting from your smartphone or public access WiFi. I feel that is a sorely missing factor on the tablet of this size, where you’d be inclined to take it out of the house with you for work or play.

Still for around the home, the OPPO Pad 2 is an excellent go between from your laptop and smartphone. Of course it gives you that larger screen for watching media or gaming.

I need to make mention here of the sound output the OPPO Pad 2 is capable of. Spatial with headphones (I love this for both music and gaming) but without headphones this tablet can boom with high definition audio.

OPPO’s reputation for putting high-spec cameras in their phones has partially transferred over to their tablet.

The OPPO Pad 2 has a 13MP wide camera at the rear in a unique roundel design (similar to the rear camera on the OPPO Find N3), but the front camera is a lower 8MP.

For video calls it is adequate, but if you’re thinking of using the OPPO Pad 2 to take those breath taking selfies, don’t, it wont replace the digital photography chops of your smartphone.

The best bit to round out the review of the OPPO Pad 2 is the battery. This 11 inch tablet packs the power with a 9510 mAh cell that will keep you going for days. During my use it has been able to keep up with gaming, web surfing, media playing and a lot of emailing managing to stay the course for almost 5 full days from a full charge.

There’s a couple of accessories you can get, such as the keyboard case, which transforms the tablet into the likes of a tablet, and the OPPO Pencil which is ideal for the content creators out there.

Having the keyboard case with any Android based tablet is a must, however I would’ve liked to see the chiclet keyboard having been backlit. It’s not.

Running Android 14 with OPPO’s ColorOS 14 overlaid, the OPPO Pad 2 is super light (only 552 grams) and almost paper thin (a mere 6.mm wide), making the OPPO Pad 2 a definite pick up and play tablet.
