PlayStation Plus Monthly Games: How It Works & How to Never Miss One
PlayStation Plus gives subscribers a rotating set of “free” games every month, but the tiers, the claim window and what you actually keep can be confusing. Here’s how the Monthly Games system works — and how to never miss one.
The three tiers
- Essential — includes the Monthly Games, online multiplayer and cloud saves.
- Extra — adds the Game Catalog, a large library of downloadable titles.
- Premium/Deluxe — adds classics, game trials and (in supported regions) cloud streaming.
The Monthly Games are available to every tier, including Essential.
How claiming works
New Monthly Games are added on the first Tuesday of each month and stay claimable for roughly a month, until the next batch replaces them. The key rule: you must add a game to your library while it’s live to keep it. Once claimed, it’s yours to play for as long as your subscription is active — if you lapse, access pauses until you resubscribe.
Tips to get the most out of it
- Claim everything, even games you won’t play yet. Adding them to your library is free and locks in access.
- You don’t have to download to claim. Hit “Add to Library” from a browser or phone the moment they drop.
- Set a reminder for the first Tuesday. Missing the window means missing that month’s games for good.
We publish the new line-up the moment it’s confirmed each month — but if you understand the claim window, you’ll never lose a game to a missed deadline again.
