World, meet ‘Brightburn’.

Brandon Breyer is an average 12 year old kid in Brightburn, a countryside small town in America.

Coping with school bullies, flip-sided by an idyllic home life with his adopted parents, Tori (Elizabeth Banks) and Kyle (David Denman), who were unable to have children of their own.

However, it doesn’t take too long before we are introduced to an exceptional Brandon Breyers (Jackson A. Dunn). His I.Q. level is beyond his years and as his birthday rolls on Brandon begins to start to feel ‘different’.

Brightburn

Plagued by dreams and voices that only he can hear, he develops super human strength along with other, darker abilities as he begins to realise what his purpose actually is.

His parents notice that he is different. The once polite and obedient kid develops an attitude and aggression.

Thinking that he may be going through puberty they initially brush it off… until people start getting hurt, or killed. Brandon is not of this Earth.

Brighburn is a deep refreshing breath in to the ‘superhero’ genre.

Brightburn

It begs the question of what if Superman was against humanity? What if Spider-Mans web slings were not for the good of those in need?

While clearly not a DC or Marvel Universe based film, Brightburn is the other side of super-hero – the super-villain.

Not quite a horror and not quite Sci-Fi, it is a mix of both and does this extremely well.

From the Producer of Slither and Guardians of the Galaxy; James Gunn, Brightburn is a journey in to the mind of a child, the instinct of his inner darkness and the brutality of something not of this world.

This is a film that all who love a good thriller or the superhero genre should see.

Personally I am now holding out for the sequel!
