Xenotilt’s Nintendo Switch 2 Version Confirmed for July 16, Free Upgrade Included

Publisher FLARB and developer WIZNWAR have confirmed that XENOTILT: Hostile Pinball Action is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on July 16, 2026, with owners of the original Switch release getting the upgraded version for free. The announcement, posted to the game’s official channels and picked up by Nintendo fan outlet GoNintendo, marks the cult pinball sequel’s jump to Nintendo’s newer hardware less than a year after its original Switch debut.

Free Switch 2 Upgrade, With a Japan Carve-Out

XENOTILT shreds the envelope with face-melting gameplay and graphics, and best of all, those who already own it on Switch will be upgraded to the Switch 2 version for free. French Nintendo outlet Nintendo-Town.fr, corroborating the GoNintendo report, adds a regional wrinkle: players who have already bought XENOTILT on Nintendo Switch will be able to obtain the Switch 2 version at no extra cost, with the exception of the Japanese market, where a discount is applied instead because of local legal constraints.

That kind of blanket free-upgrade policy is still relatively rare for third-party Switch 2 ports, most of which have followed Nintendo’s own template of paid upgrade packs for its first-party library. A no-cost jump for an indie title suggests FLARB and WIZNWAR are leaning on goodwill from the original game’s reception to build momentum for the new SKU.

Three-Tier Playfield Aboard the Doomed Ship Samaritan

The sequel to cult hit Demon’s Tilt, XENOTILT, is heading to Switch 2 as its own dedicated release rather than a simple patch. The Switch 2 version keeps the core setup that defined the original: an expansive three-story table set aboard the Samaritan, a derelict ship turned hostile, where the Xenophage Swarm is a vicious infestation plaguing the wreck.

New additions for the Switch 2 edition include nightmarish new bosses, a new lighting system and a nine-ball multiball matrix built around big numbers and bullet-hell scoring. Combat systems carried over from the base game include the Turret System, where big bullets chew up enemies and smash incoming volleys, and the Perk System, which lets players upgrade weapons, defense and scoring power across nine unique perks.

Crisis and Hardcore Modes Round Out the Switch 2 Package

Nintendo-Town.fr’s report also details two additional modes arriving with the Switch 2 build: a time-attack Crisis Mode built around multiball mechanics, and a Hardcore mode that strips players down to a single ball but grants maximum firepower to compensate. Visually, the port sticks with the series’ signature “Hi-Bit” aesthetic, and the score is once again handled by composer E.C.2151, whose driving soundtrack has been a hallmark of both Demon’s Tilt and Xenotilt since the original release.

From Demon’s Tilt to a Genre Standout

Xenotilt first launched on Switch in October 2025 as a follow-up to 2019’s Demon’s Tilt, and Nintendo Life’s review at the time called it one of the best pinball games ever made, drawing comparisons to the breakout success of card-battler Balatro for pulling in players who’d never normally touch the genre. Sole developer WIZNWAR returned with a cyberpunk-inspired twist that improves upon its predecessor in almost every conceivable way, according to that review, which also praised the game’s support for vertical TATE-mode play on both the original OLED Switch and Switch 2 hardware.

That reception has carried over to PC as well, where the game holds an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating from over 600 Steam users, alongside a solid 86 score for the PC version on Metacritic. A dedicated Switch 2 release, rather than a simple performance patch, gives FLARB and WIZNWAR a fresh storefront moment to capture players who skipped the original Switch version or are buying into Nintendo’s new hardware for the first time.

What It Means for Switch 2 Owners Down Under

As with most Nintendo eShop rollouts, the July 16 release should go live simultaneously for New Zealand and Australian players alongside North America and Europe, though local NZD/AUD pricing for the standalone Switch 2 listing had not been published by either the developer or Nintendo’s regional storefronts at the time of writing. For local pinball fans who already own Demon’s Tilt’s sequel on the original Switch, the free upgrade path removes any barrier to trying the enhanced version the moment Switch 2 stock and eShop listings sync up in the region.

With Nintendo’s Switch 2 library increasingly dominated by first-party remasters and blockbuster ports, a scrappy indie sequel offering a genuinely free hardware upgrade stands out as a small but notable gesture toward the platform’s growing base of independent-game supporters.
