Pokemon Plakoro will release on 18 July 2026 as a physical Battle Dice board game, confirmed in an official post on X from the account @plakoro_pokepla. The game launches exclusively in Japan and is a follow-up to the original Pokemon Plakoro, a dice and model board game Bandai first released in 1997. As of 5 July 2026, no Western or English release has been confirmed. Fans outside Japan will need to import the sets, which are priced at 990 yen (about $6 USD) before shipping.
What Pokemon Plakoro Is
Pokemon Plakoro is a Battle Dice game built around luck and strategy rather than a video game. It marks the second edition of a title that first launched 29 years ago, and it keeps the dice-and-model board game format of the original. The 2026 version arrives as one of several tabletop and collectible releases tied to the franchise’s 30th anniversary.
Six Starter Sets Built Around Generation I Pokemon
Plakoro launches with six starter sets, each based on a popular Generation I Pokemon. The available sets cover Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Pikachu, Eevee, and Mew.
Each starter set contains the same components, listed below.
- 1 Character Die
- 1 Energy Die
- 18 Custom Chips
- 1 Character Card
- 7 Move Cards
- 1 Instruction Sheet
The Adventure Set and Future Expansions
Alongside the starter sets, Plakoro launches with a single Adventure Set featuring Generation I favourites including Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, and Onix. As with the original game, additional merchandise and future Adventure Sets are planned, though those later sets are currently listed as TBA.
Pricing and Import Details
Each starter set is priced at 990 yen, roughly $6 USD. That figure covers the set alone and does not account for the shipping and import costs Western buyers will face when ordering from Japan, which can run well above the base price.
Part of a Busy Anniversary Year
Plakoro joins a crowded slate of 30th anniversary releases. FireRed and LeafGreen arrived on Switch and Switch 2, Pokemon Champions launched, and the first trailer for Pokemon Winds and Waves was shown in February. Pokemon Pokopia has also released. Still ahead is the 30th Celebration set for the Pokemon TCG this autumn, an official Pokemon pinball machine, and a run of brand collaborations. Pokemon Plakoro goes on sale in Japan on 18 July, with no word yet on whether an English edition will follow.
