According to Android Headlines, Ice Universe said there is “currently no reliable evidence or credible information suggesting that the Galaxy S27 Ultra will feature a 5500mAh battery” and also questioned the track record of the tipster behind the original claim.

That original claim traced back to an account known as @phonefuturist, posting under the handle “Schrödinger.” PhoneArena, tracking the back-and-forth, noted that early July 2026 claims from an unproven source surfaced about the Galaxy S27 Ultra getting a 5,600mAh or 5,800mAh battery size, figures that quickly rippled across the phone-leak ecosystem before the rebuttal landed.

The $22–28 Million Reason Samsung Hesitates on Silicon-Carbon

Regardless of the exact capacity, the underlying reason Samsung is dragging its feet on newer battery chemistry appears more consistent across reports. Citing the same leaker, Wccftech reported that Samsung’s hesitance to switch to silicon-carbon batteries has more to do with increased manufacturing costs, which would run between $22-28 million per one million Galaxy S27 Ultra units, versus $12-15 million for procuring standard lithium-ion cells at the same volume.

The outlet wrote that the truth is that currently nobody really knows what battery size Samsung will use, with an increase expected but no credible confirmation of a jump above 5,500mAh. Android Headlines similarly concluded that the Galaxy S27 Ultra will not be utilizing silicon-carbon tech, meaning Samsung cannot fit a 6,000mAh or 7,000mAh cell without making the phone too thick.

Samsung has used the same headline battery figure across seven straight Ultra generations. As one outlet put it, the Galaxy S series has stuck with a 5,000 mAh battery capacity for the last five years, right back to the Galaxy S21 Ultra, and since then 5,000 mAh has been locked in — a streak that, factoring in the original Galaxy S20 Ultra, stretches back to 2020.

PhoneArena reported that even the iPhone 18 Pro Max is expected to feature a 5,567mAh battery for the US model, with a smaller 5,391mAh cell for the international version, meaning Samsung’s margin for error on battery bragging rights is shrinking on both sides of its lineup.

Why Battery Capacity Still Matters for Mobile Gamers

For Australian and New Zealand players who lean on flagship Android phones for cloud gaming, emulation or heavyweight titles like Genshin Impact and PUBG Mobile, raw battery capacity remains one of the clearest levers for longer uninterrupted sessions away from a charger. A jump from 5,000mAh to even 5,200mAh won’t match the 6,000-7,000mAh cells already common in some Chinese flagships, but paired with the newer Snapdragon silicon rumoured for the S27 Ultra, it could still translate into a meaningful bump in screen-on gaming time.
