Phasmophobia’s Big 1.0 Update Will Rework Every Ghost in the Game

Phasmophobia is gearing up for its biggest overhaul yet. During an interview at Shacknews E4 2026, developer Kinetic Games revealed fresh details about the popular ghost-hunting game’s upcoming 1.0 update, including a complete rework of every ghost model in the game.

According to Shacknews, the outlet spoke with Daniel Knight, CEO and Game Director of Phasmophobia, alongside Senior Narrative Designer Ana Dukakis, about the direction of the long-anticipated 1.0 release. The update is currently slated to arrive in 2027.

An Overhaul of the Horror Experience

Per Shacknews, Dukakis described the scope of the 1.0 update succinctly, calling it “an overhaul of the horror experience.” The team is reportedly focused on enhancing both the audio and visual elements of the game to deepen the sense of dread and immersion players feel while investigating haunted locations.

Since launching in early access, Phasmophobia has built a dedicated fanbase around its cooperative ghost-hunting gameplay, where players use various tools to identify the type of spirit haunting a location before it turns hostile. The 1.0 update appears aimed at refining that core loop while making the atmosphere scarier and more immersive than ever.

Every Ghost Getting New Models

Among the most notable reveals from the Shacknews interview was confirmation that Kinetic Games plans to rework every ghost currently in Phasmophobia. As part of the 1.0 update, each spectral entity will receive a brand-new model, suggesting a significant visual refresh for the game’s roster of supernatural threats.

While specific details on individual ghost designs were not disclosed, the announcement signals that Kinetic Games is treating the 1.0 launch as an opportunity to modernize assets that have been part of the game since its earlier development phases. Combined with the promised audio and visual overhaul, the ghost rework points to a substantially different look and feel for the finished version of Phasmophobia.

What’s Next for Phasmophobia

With the 1.0 update targeted for 2027, Phasmophobia fans still have a wait ahead of them, but Shacknews notes that the full interview with Knight and Dukakis is available on the outlet’s Interviews YouTube channel for those wanting a deeper look at the developers’ plans.

As one of the most enduring horror titles to come out of the early access scene, Phasmophobia’s move toward a full 1.0 release marks a major milestone for Kinetic Games. Between the ghost rework and the broader horror overhaul, players can expect the eventual launch to represent the most polished and terrifying version of the game to date.
