A sci-fi game full of mysteries and twists that you don’t see it coming, Scars Above will also test your patience with its unforgiving difficulty.
The story starts out innocent enough as you explore your main ship and fulfil a few mundane tasks, which get you familiar with the gameplay.
However before you know it you’re taken on an unforgettable third person adventure through a dangerous alien world. While the game has many strengths, it also has a few ‘scars’ that keep it from being a perfect experience.
The game can be incredibly challenging, and even experienced gamers may find themselves struggling to progress through some of the tougher levels. While this can be frustrating, it also makes victory all the sweeter when you finally overcome a challenging objective or enemy.
Scars Above encourages exploration, to a point.
The mysterious open world has a lot of hidden goodness to be discovered, new alien species to be found, but it’s not fully open world. you’ll still be sticking to a somewhat loose but linear path.
While the story plays out after a devastating event that placed you on this alien world to begin with more will be revealed by way of mysterious memory flashes and weird environmental changes.
You will begin to question, are you really on an alien world, or is this all something else entirely…
Scars Above is somewhat repetitive.
While the game’s world is vast and full of interesting places to explore, the actual mechanics of the game can start to feel a bit samey after a short while. This is especially true during combat, which can sometimes feel like you’re just going through the motions over and over.
Despite this, Scars Above is still an excellent game that I enjoyed playing through.
It’s definitely worth a play-through. graphically the game is minty and the developers have done an excellent job at making the alien world eerie and even at times frightening.
If you’re a fan of action-adventure games with a heavy Sci-Fi flavour and you’re looking to be ultra-challenged, be sure to check out Scars Above.
