As an ode to the 3D platformer games of the early to mid 2000’s comes Evil Raptor’s Akimbot.
You’re a no nonsense robot called Exe an outlaw with a shady past, who unwillingly gets teamed up with a sidekick called Shipset.
In a world where only robots exist, Exe and Shipset must save the Universe against legions of bad robots who are at the command of Evilware. A crazed scientist with a love of electrifying everything.
From idyllic island paradises through to closed in cities and more Akimbot has to running and shooting your way through some beautifully created worlds.
In a mostly free roam it pays to go off the beaten path to find hidden goodness, which you can cash in on new weapons.
Akimbot can dual wield smaller guns or use one heavy hitter at a time, and these are swappable on the fly during play.
Akimbot has the flavour of Ratchet and Clank, a lot, but also pays homage to action adventure titles such as Spyro, Croc and even to a degree Crash Bandicoot.
Akimbot is a game slated for those that have a love of similar titles from past to present.
It’s not an easy ride, there are some real tricky bits but Evil Raptor, who bought us Pumpkin Jack a few years ago (look out for the Easter Egg in the game btw), has done an amazing job of creating the SciFi worlds and the robot with an attitude, Exe as a character.
If you’re up for a challenge but looking at a game with chilled out play, Akimbot is it.
