When I checked out The Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan I was pleasantly shocked.

The action and story made for a gripping adventure that was so much better than I could have expected. But after leaving it on a cliffhanger I was chomping at the bit for the sequel.  Well now that sequel, The Three Musketeers: Milady, has landed on Bluray!

The Three Musketeers: Milady kicks off straight where The Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan. After Constance saw some information about the insidious plot against the king, she was kidnapped. D’Artagnan was knocked out trying to run to her aid and got himself captured. The movie kicks off with him waking up. He wakes up in a little castle outpost thingy, where he escapes. He gets into the prison expecting to find Constance, but instead finds the mysterious villain from the last movie, Milady. In a pinch her helps her get out and they both escape.

Here we are thrown back into the mess of things.

After the assassination attempt on the King, battles and anger are overflowing. This gives the musketeers a whole lot of work and chaos to work through, while D’Artagnan still tries to find and save Constance. Then we get the interesting aspects of Milady, who we get a bunch of history with. It turns out she has a longer relationship with the musketeers which is an interesting story line.

On the whole, the movie is really amazing.

The Three Musketeers Milady

The battles and fights are all excellent, and the political intrigue is still solid. One issue the movie has is it’s not quite as punchy as the first one. Despite having to set characters up, the first one seemed to achieve a lot with a short amount of time. The added story with Milady is really interesting and goes to some dark places, but the ending felt a little dissatisfying.

While not as incredible as the first movie, The Three Musketeers: Milady is still a cracking watch and a worthy sequel. There is even a little door opened for a third movie which I hope to the good lord happens. This series is too good to leave with two movies.
