“It shows how the human spirit will continue against odds and the heart and strength of both a City and Nation who come together”.

Most of us know of the Boston Marathon Bombing of 2013, but few of us know the story, the strength of the human spirit and the events that occurred after the terrorism attack.

Patriots Day follows the true story of Sergeant Tommy Saunders (Mark Wahlberg) who was currently on a career probation at the time and had been demoted as a beat cop of sorts – tasked with policing the finish line of the Marathon.

The film’s pace takes viewers in to the lives of Tommy Saunders and the primary competitors in the Marathon, aswell as the two brothers; Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev responsible for the home made pressure cooker bombs that killed three people and injured countless more.

The Tsarnaev brothers were radical Islamist’s, with Tamerlan being the leader and his more westernized brother Dzhokhar following Tamerlan’s lead. Within the aftermath of the bombing, the FBI is bought in to investigate terrorism links. Lead Agent on the case; Richard DesLauriers (Kevin Bacon) alongside Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis (John Goodman) struggle to find and track down those responsible, and is as documented in the news coverage of the time, seek the assistance of the public to pin point the two siblings responsible as they run from the law with another bombing mission in mind.

Patriots Day keeps viewers on the edge of their seats as the hunt is on, and even though we all know the outcome of the events, it is an intense experience to watch it play out as it happened and to see the State wide manhunt commence, seeing the background events that never made it to the news broadcasts.

Although Patriots Day is a film documenting a real world tragedy, it is also a film with heart.

It shows how human spirit will continue against odds and the heart and strength of both a City and Nation who come together.

Patriots Day is a must watch film for anyone, whether true stories get you going or not. It displays in raw and emotional storytelling the issues that we live with in the world today.
