Star Fox Tops Japan’s Switch 2 Charts as Tomodachi Life Holds Steady at No. 2

Star Fox has launched at the top of Japan’s software sales chart, according to the latest weekly figures from Famitsu covering June 22 to June 28. The Nintendo Switch 2 title moved 41,680 copies in its debut week, edging out established sellers like Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream and Powerful Pro Baseball 2026-2027.
Star Fox Debuts Strong, But Long-Runners Still Dominate Totals
While Star Fox claimed the No. 1 spot as a brand-new entry, the rest of the top 10 tells a familiar story for the Japanese market: catalog titles continue to move steady numbers week after week. Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream sat at No. 2 with 28,543 units sold, pushing its lifetime total past 1.41 million copies on Switch.
Powerful Pro Baseball 2026-2027 rounded out the top three with 16,950 units, bringing its cumulative sales to 146,335. eFootball Kick-Off and Pokemon Pokopia followed in fourth and fifth place, respectively, with the latter’s lifetime sales on Switch 2 now standing at more than 1.06 million units according to Famitsu’s data.
Mario Kart World remained a fixture on the chart at No. 6, adding 4,521 copies to a total that has now climbed close to 3 million units sold. Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Switch 2 Edition also appeared further down the list, showing that Nintendo’s back catalog is still finding buyers even as new releases arrive.
Several New Entries Crowd the Lower Half of the Chart
Beyond Star Fox, this week’s chart saw a cluster of fresh titles enter the top 30 for the first time. Medabots Card Robattle RB debuted at No. 7 with 4,348 copies, while Blackish House: sideZ Retour landed at No. 8 with 4,114 units.
Senjuushi: Rhodoknight for Nintendo Switch also made its first appearance, selling 3,118 copies, alongside newcomers Saeko: Giantess Dating Sim, Mamiya: A Shared Illusion of the World’s End, My Little Puppy, and Gohellgo: Tsuki Oto Shite Ko. None of these debuts cracked the top five, but their simultaneous arrival suggests a busy release window for smaller and niche titles in Japan.
On the PlayStation 5 side, 007 First Light and The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales both appeared in the chart, though their unit sales remained modest compared to the Switch and Switch 2 entries dominating the list. This continues a pattern seen in recent Famitsu reports where Nintendo hardware accounts for the vast majority of top-selling software in Japan.
What This Means for Switch 2’s Ongoing Momentum
With Star Fox now topping the chart and Mario Kart World, Pokemon Pokopia, and Animal Crossing’s Switch 2 Edition all still selling consistently, Nintendo’s newer console continues to post healthy software numbers alongside the original Switch. Famitsu’s data indicates that despite the platform transition, older Switch titles like Splatoon 3, Minecraft, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate remain reliable sellers deep into their release cycles.
As Nintendo Everything notes, this marks another week where a single new release manages to outsell a crowded field of long-tenured favorites, reinforcing just how much staying power Nintendo’s back catalog still has in the Japanese market. Fans looking to track how Star Fox performs in the weeks ahead will get a clearer picture once Famitsu releases its next chart covering early July sales.
