Amazon has announced to us here at STG that their Echo Input is now available to customers in Australia.

Echo Input enables customers to easily add Alexa to an existing external speaker through an included 3.5mm audio cable or via Bluetooth, and features a slim, low profile design so it blends seamlessly into every room. Echo Input is available to order today for just $55 AUD, and begins shipping to customers immediately.

Echo Input connects to Alexa, the brain that powers Echo devices, and is the first Echo device where all audio is designed to come from an external speaker, providing customers with an even more affordable way to add Alexa to the speaker of their choice, or the speaker they already own. Echo Input features a custom four-microphone array so you can talk to Alexa from across the room, even while music is playing. Just ask, and Alexa will answer questions, play music, read the news, control your smart home, add items to your To-Do list, and much more.

When connected to Echo Input, speakers can be added to a new or existing Multi-Room Music group for synchronised streaming across rooms or your entire home. And, if you have multiple Echo devices within hearing distance, Amazon’s Echo Spatial Perception (ESP) technology intelligently calculates the clarity of your voice and determines which Echo is closest and should respond to the request.

Echo Input also allows customers to enjoy thousands of local skills available in Australia, with a wide range developed by local brands. Get the news from ABC or Fox Sports or tune into the big game with AFL live streams. Listen to your preferred station with RadioApp, find your favourite podcast with Pocket Cast or create a moment of calm with the Headspace meditation skill. Alexa can also help with your AGL energy bill, manage your flights with Qantas or Virgin Australia, or even inspire your cooking with recipes from Taste. Skills including The Beanies from Kinderling or Amazon Storytime are also ideal for family fun or helping to keep the kids entertained.

Echo Input is available now at Amazon and will also be available at JB Hi-Fi stores shortly.
