Huawei has announced the release of the EMUI 9.0 update to Huawei smartphone users in New Zealand following the launch of its latest flagship smartphone chipset Kirin 980. Based on Android Pie that was introduced earlier this year, the new OS update will introduce a customised next generation user experience.

“We are excited to launch this new update in New Zealand. As one of the leading smartphone manufacturers in the global market, Huawei’s latest EMUI 9.0 update contains the newest features to make the user experience on the Mate 10 and P20 Series even better than before” says General Manager of CBG Huawei New Zealand, Gavin Cheng.

The enhanced UX and high-speed performance of EMUI 9.0 enable an unmatched OS for Huawei phones that are intuitive and simple. EMUI 9.0 is now available on Huawei P20 Pro, Huawei P20, Huawei Mate 10 Pro and Huawei Mate 10. The beta version will be available on Huawei Nova 3i, Huawei P10 Plus and Huawei P10 to users who register to join using the HiCare application.

The EMUI 9.0 achieved another milestone with a wide range of incredible features. With a concept to ‘enable a quality life’, this unique user interface (UI) system is improves the usability and experience through the numerous breakthroughs, including the following highlights:

Offering up an enhanced and intuitive user experience with seamless gesture navigation to streamline and optimise the smartphone experience, Huawei has introduced a new and improved gesture-based navigation system for an even more intuitive navigation experience. The gesture-based navigation gives users the ability to swipe either left or right for a seamless ambidextrous experience. Additionally, Huawei has redesigned apps such as the world clock and photos to implement advanced single-handed control features, allowing users to easily control apps from the top to the bottom of the screen without overextending their thumb.

The EMUI 9.0 update reduces the number of setting items by 10 per cent, taking it from 940 to 843. This makes it easier for users to enable all location services with one touch, instead of enabling GPS, WLAN, and mobile location services separately, streamlining the process and saving time. Reducing the number of items has ultimately led to a more superior user experience.

EMUI 9.0 brings nature into the home of Huawei users by incorporating nature-inspired sounds. All new alarm ring tones include natural ambient sounds ranging from the sound of water flowing to birds chirping. EMUI 9.0 leverages the Smart Colour Picker to improve the contrast and vibrancy of the UI as well as the readability of text, creating an immersive and natural experience. The new system focuses on a faster and smoother animation, minimising the possibilities of lagging between the usage of different apps and functions.

The update also includes features that are designed to improve quality of life when it comes to smartphone usage. Colors & Eye Comfort offers options for a paper-like viewing, a customized viewing, or an Eye Comfort viewing for more comfortable reading at night. The update also comes with a variety of settings to achieve true digital balance with the ability to access a comprehensive break down of their screen time, as well as how often users unlock their devices. Users also have the ability to set boundaries with the option to restrict screen or app time without limiting the device from performing essential tasks such as Messaging and Dialer.

Speed is everything to Huawei and that is reflected in the EMUI 9.0 update. Not only is Huawei one of the first handset makers to launch a custom OS based on Android Pie, but the new system also boasts a smoother performance with 12.9 per cent improvement from its predecessor.

The app launching time has also shortened by a noticeable amount. It can launch popular apps such as Instagram 12 per cent faster and Spotify 11 per cent faster as well.

One of the heavyweight features of EMUI 9.0 will be its GPU Turbo 2.0 technology, the second generation of Huawei’s innovative graphics processing acceleration technology. GPU Turbo 2.0 can enhance touch controls in games and works in tandem with the App Assistant feature to deliver a smooth, premium mobile gaming experience. These features all allow for a more efficient user experience while operating the phone.

EMUI 9.0 is now available on Huawei P20 Pro, Huawei P20, Huawei Mate 10 Pro and Huawei Mate 10. People with Huawei Nova 3i, Huawei P10 Plus and Huawei P10 will be able to register for the EMUI 9.0 update by the end of March 2019.

Updating to EMUI 9.0 can be easily done by following the below steps:

Find the Huawei HiCare application

Check the “update” in QUICK SERVICES.

This year (2018) is shaping up to be an epic year for the Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei.

Knocking iPhone off it’s 2nd Place in the top phones globally (by Sales) and releasing a slew of smartphones, unlike anyother before them.

The month of March took everyone by surprise, even the Android naysayers when Huawei released their Rear Tri-lens P20 Pro. The worlds first and currently only super phone.

This was followed up by a modest mid range nova 3e, for the price conscious who still want quality.

Once again, and not long after the 3e, Huawei have gone one better for those that do not need spend their life savings on a killer android handset and have released their nova 3i.

Slated for all users from the heavy to light and even for the mobile gamers, the nova 3i is a four camera smartphone (two at the back and two front facing) with the same if not increased levels of A.I. (Artificial Intelligence) that we experienced on the P20 Pro.

Huawei know that we as humans love taking pics of ourselves. There’s no denying it, we are a society of selfies. So they have ramped up the front facing lenses to be 24MP and 2MP combined – thus giving a 26MP ‘Selfie’ camera as the lenses work in tandem.

The rear dual lenses are alot lower than the front, being 16MP + 2MP.

Still okay though for traditional phone photography, but the snaps produced from the rear camera are not as vivd as the front, and obviously not as high res as the nova 3i’s bigger and more expensive sibling, the P20 Pro.

Asides from the usual filters that we have been builtin to almost every smartphone over the past year or so, the nova 3i has a 3D snap option where it will 3D map the object or subject you are taking a pic of and everyones favourite – Avatar gifs. Turn yourself in to a rabbit, a lizard or whatever your heart desires, then send on to unsuspecting friends as a GIF.

Inside the metallic blue to purple (called Iris Blue) shimmering case that is really just exquisite turning the handset in to a piece of art, there’s a 4GB of RAM, a very pleasing 128GB of Storage (Yup the nova 3i has expandability by way of a microSD card slot – something sorely missed from the P20 Pro) and is powered by a proprietary HUAWEI Kirin 710 which has 4 x Cortex A73 2.2 GHz + 4 x Cortex A53 1.7 GHz on a 64BIT architecture.

In non nerd speak – the nova 3i is hell grunty and will get you through many gaming sessions on phone grinding games like PUBG without breaking a sweat.

The 6.3 inch screen is FHD at 2,340 x 1,080 – this will ensure that you get the possible visual experience from your media. The nova 3i as current trends are now at is all screen, to the likes of it’s smaller cousin the nova 3e.

There is no non-tactile ‘Home’ button, just a small bezel and a notch at the top. A wider notch to cover the two front lenses.

Huawei have taken one function that is a bit reminiscent of the iPhone X. That is increased security on the Face Unlock.

If you register your face as an unlock mechanism on the nova 3i, unlike most Android devices with this function, the 3i will not automatically take you to your main screen (although this option can be toggled). Instead it will show you your notifications and you will need to swipe the screen to enter in to the phone.

If having your phone unlock at the first sight of your smiley dial is not for you then there’s the traditional finger biometric, which is located at the rear of the handset.

The nova 3i is a serious piece of kit, but not at a so serious price tag.

In New Zealand, you can snap up one of these beauties for $499.00. If anything, that’s a A.I. Quad lensed camera (x2 front, x2 rear) and 128GB of digital storage.

Alot of A.I. goodness which wont break your piggy bank. The nova 3i is a cross-over and sits between the mid range to high end device sphere – but not at a high end price.

Huawei New Zealand Consumer Business group is thrilled to bring the HUAWEI nova 3i to New Zealand consumers – the third generation in the nova i series smartphones.

The nova 3i offers incredible high-end smartphone features, including 128GB storage, 6.3-inch FullView display, four cameras (two rear-facing and two front-facing) with Artificial Intelligence (AI), te reo Māori as an operating language, and a Kirin 710 next-gen AI processor . The nova 3i delivers high-end functionality at a fraction of the cost of flagship devices.

Best of all, the HUAWEI nova 3i will come in the amazing Iris Purple colour – available for the first time in New Zealand. The stylish blue-purple gradient colour sets the HUAWEI nova 3i apart from the crowd of smartphones and takes the smartphone from a utility, to a fashion statement. The device will also be available in Black.

Colour has become smartphone manufacturers’ obsession, largely owing to the demand for interesting and fashionable colour choices in smartphones from consumers. Huawei have set a new standard in smartphone colour with the amazing Iris Pruple blue-purple gradient colour scheme available on the HUAWEI nova 3i.

The back of the HUAWEI nova 3i is equipped with a nano-level texture film that is etched with a semi-circular patter. This process creates soft and gradient colours, alternating between hues of blue and purple. The back glass and metal mid-frame are seamlessly connected for a better handling experience and overall thinner visual effect.

Sharing photographs has become a natural instinct in the 21st century – and the importance of having a high-quality camera in our back pocket has continued to grow since the conception on the camera phone.

Recognising the importance of photography for consumers, Huawei have equipped the nova 3i with four AI cameras – two on the front and two on the back – to put a premium, intelligent photography experience into the hands of its customers. The dual front cameras produce the most natural selfies, whereas the dual-camera system at the back produces vivid photos with clear subjects, allowing users to share stunning social media ready photos with friends and followers anytime anywhere.

The HUAWEI nova 3i has dual cameras of 24MP+2MP. The impressive hardware is further amplified with AI, opening up photo opportunities never before possible for users. The dual cameras can adjust beautification levels and brightness for portraits and backgrounds.

The HUAWEI nova 3i AI-powered intelligent system has studied more than 100 million images and can recognise over 500 scenarios in 22 categories. The smartphone automatically identifies different scenes and makes adjustments accordingly, providing users with the best possible results as well as an intelligent shooting experience.

AI also allows the device to recognise six different backgrounds, including blue skies, green plants and beaches. The AI-enabled camera can optimise photos by scene, making the sky bluer, the grass greener and the sand on the beach more granular. Users no longer need to spend hours editing their photos – the HUAWEI nova 3i can immediately turn the pictures and videos into masterpieces.

The HUAWEI nova 3i is equipped with the Android Oreo-based EMUI 8.2, a highly integrated interface that is made to support the limitless possibilities of AI and AI-based applications. EMUI 8.2 isn’t just a communications tool, but a digital butler that knows and understands user preferences.

The nova 3i features integrated AI support, including:

AI shopping assistant: A two-finger long press on a photo will identify products and the links to purchase for those products will then be retrieved by the AI search function.

AI Translation: The nova 3i is configured with a built-in voice translator that supports translation between nine different languages. The device can also scan images, such as maps and posters, to translate to seven languages including Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, French and Russian.

AI-powered Smart Gallery: The gallery can automatically identify eight different photo themes, including birthdays, parties, graduations, nights out, sporting events, weddings, travels and more. The gallery automatically classifies your photos into these themes.

AI–enhance communications: When in a noisy environment, the HUAWEI nova 3i will turn on its AI noise removal mode, which includes whispered and high-volume modes. When the whispered mode is on, the speaker’s voice can be heard clearly without needing to increase the volume. Through rounds of testing on three high-speed railways in China, Germany and Japan, the nova 3i has enhanced capabilities to make and receive calls without issue. Even in an elevator, calls will remain smooth and crystal clear.
