A year since his last release, US beatmaker OddKidOut is back with yet another genre bending cut ON MY MIND via Alinea

As a producer who went from air drumming in the backseat of his parent’s car to finger drumming to an audience of 100k followers on Instagram, OddKidOut’s following has been well earnt since he skyrocketed to success alongside some of the world’s more renowned producers. It’s not surprising Skrillex and Timbaland slid into his DM’s.

From the age of just 6, OddKidOut AKA Butch Serianni received the drum kit that paved the way for him to play in a range of jazz, rock and punk bands. Known for drawing on these wide spans of genres as well as artists such as Led Zeppelin, Pharell and Skrillex, OddKidOut’s production fuses trap, hip-hop, drum and melodic elements to create immediately modern music. What’s more, he even resided in the latter’s LA home for 3 months after he followed him on Instagram.

‘Odd kid’ by name and nature, Butch made the shift from drummer to production pioneer at age 15. He went from honing in on his individuality and skills via Logic Pro, before shifting the beat-making process to Ableton and Native instruments, where he has been rising in the ranks ever since.

More recently, OddKidOut released on Skrillex’s esteemed OWSLA imprint and Martin Garrix’s STMPD RCRDS before he went onto be praised by mixmag as ‘a producer you should be following on Instagram’.

Now releasing a collection of perfectly produced samples via Beatstars, as well his latest original in the form of ON MY MIND, OddKidOut oozes with creativity. Featuring beautiful vocal hooks which soar above enchanting synth pad structures via mind-bending finger drumming, ON MY MIND promises to please electronic music and hip hop fans just as much as other audiences.

OddKidOut – ON MY MIND is out now.

Combining their talents for a sizzling tech house collaboration, up and comers Rone White and Rowen Clark team up to make their debut on Piero Pirupa’s tastemaker NONSTOP label with Indian Market.

Rone White has already demonstrated his production flair with releases on the likes of Repopulate Mars, 303Lovers, Deeperfect, No Excuse, South of Saturn and others whilst receiving huge support from heavyweights like Joseph Capriati, Jamie Jones, Marco Carola, wAFF and more.

Elsewhere, fellow collaborator and Dutch talent Rowen Clarke merged on the scene by winning multiple DJ competitions including Underground Hidden Talent, and Rotterdam Outdoor. Rowen has continued his promising ascent having secured regular shows at Antwerp, Elrow, Ants and more whilst releasing on the likes of Repopulate Mars, Safe Records, Under Pressure and now of course NONSTOP.

Pairing up for Indian Market, Rone White and Rowen Clark add double the expertise marking the duo as ones to watch. Weaving splicing beats and hypnotic vocals, Indian Market guides listers on a sensual journey, transporting the hustle and bustle of an Indian market stall to the dance floor. Meanwhile, b side Free Spirit boasts a darker sound, with hefty drums and warped synths, nodding to influences to early 90’s Detroit techno.

Rone White & Rowen Clark – Indian Market is out now via NONSTOP.

Canadian dark-pop / alt prodigy Mikalyn Hay and co-write partner EDM and pop artist Xtro (Chris Graham) — has dusted off an earlier fave for a fresh remix with a global vibe in “Close”.

Discovered by International label and management outpost Reven, “Close feat. Mikalyn & Xtro” was reimagined by Brazilian bass / future / tech house artist RQntz (Requintes) and Russian EDM duo 39 Kingdom for the Spring 2020 release.

The original video from Mikalyn and Xtro’s initial imagining can be streamed above this post.

“‘Close’ was a very fun song to write,” Mikalyn recalls of the track’s creative process some two+ years ago. Hay and Graham — who were 16 at the time — collaborated for a six-track EP, Love Again where the original version of “Close” was featured. “Chris and I have written many songs and this one started out the same way all of them do: alternating between our makeshift home basement studios, mine in Guelph and his in Toronto.

“For ‘Close,’ we had been freestyling around the line ‘close to me’ and, once we had the song fully written, I knew it was my favourite,” she continues. “It’s been so cool seeing where the song started, and comparing it to what it’s become. It’s crazy.”

RQntz and 39 Kingdom’s take on “Close feat. Mikalyn & Xtro” is available now.

British D&B duo The Prototypes release ‘Oxygen’ feat. Clementine Douglas of Kudu Blue on vocals. The new cut is the second single from their upcoming album, ‘Ten Thousand Feet & Rising’ rescheduled for release on 31st July 2020.

The duo is also planning a series of online residencies, ahead of their live streams The Prototypes just gave us the best quarantine gift by releasing footage of their Let It Roll festival set. Just a glimpse of what we can expect from the yet to be announced album launches the band had to postpone this spring due to COVID-19.

Premiered by Danny Howard on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show, the single follows on the recent release of the 90s Hardcore throwback cut ‘Shadows’ featuring Lily McKenzie’, the new track is the proof The Prototypes have an unmistakable taste for choosing the perfect vocalists – with features including ‘Desire’ by Sub Focus & Dimension – media darlings Kudu Blue’s impassioned soulful vocalist take centre stage with an anthemic hook. Talking about writing the track the Brighton-based duo says; “this is definitely one of our favourites tracks from the album, there is a very strong balance between uplifting vibes and straight up dancefloor energy. We wrote the vocal together with Clementine using a rough sketch of the tune around it before adding the final production.”

Their long-awaited second album, ‘Ten Thousand Feet & Rising’, it’s the sound of an intense studio lockdown, entirely written and composed by The Prototypes and spread over eleven tracks, it includes features by 2Shy MC and Elle Exxe and Lowes. The Prototypes are set to launch a series of live streaming residencies and watch parties through their own channels ahead of their postponed album launch parties.

The Prototypes are Nick White and Chris Garvey, the two DJs met on pirate radio in the mid-2000s, together they started putting on d’n’b nights on the south coast before officially forming the group in 2010 when they signed their first record – the evergreen anthem ‘Cascade’ – to J Majik’s Infrared. Their potent, hard-hitting production signature and broadsword body of work on seminal labels such as UKF, Viper Recordings, Shogun Audio, Ram Records, Technique Recordings and Formation.

Their early singles include ‘Pale Blue Dot’ which held the #1 spot on the Beatport dnb chart for over a month, went on to becomeBeatport’s second top selling dnb track of the year and ‘Best Track’ at the Drum & Bass Arena Awards, whilst their 2015 single ‘Pop It Off’ was named “one of the most unanimously unifying cuts in D&B of the year” by UKF Music.

Their remixes include acts ranging from Ed Sheeran to Avicii to Friction. Their debut album ‘City Of Gold’, released in 2015 and reaching No. 22 on the UK Dance Chart on week of release, elevated the group to headline status with live performances including legendary festival Tomorrowland.

The 20-year-old singer, songwriter and producer from Warwickshire has already turned heads with previous records Close, To You, Breathless & her Temporal Experiment, No.1 EP – with BBC Music Introducing Coventry & Warwickshire naming her as their ‘Artist of the Month’ earlier this year. Loveday has also received radio support from the likes of Jamz Supernova (BBC Radio 1Xtra) & BBC 6Music’s Tom Robinson.

Speaking on ‘Superficial Life’, Loveday cites “When making Superficial Life, I wanted to go for something completely different. I have changed so much as a person over the last year and wanted my music to express that progression and growth that I have experienced entering my 20’s. The song is about where I was at a few years ago, I was going out to clubs twice a week for months on end before I turned 18. At that time I was struggling with that the question that teenagers ask themselves time and time again: ‘WHO AM I?!?’. I really had no idea, but one day I realised that even though it’s important to have fun, there was so much more to me than going out and getting legless every week and dumbing myself down. I explain in the song that there was pretty much zero emotional support going on between me and the people I was surrounding myself with, there was never really an in-depth conversation, and I didn’t realise the effects that had on me until I’d removed myself from the situation.”

An unusual blend of electronic funk/drum and bass, Loveday combines the genres resulting in a beautiful unlikely pairing; the electronic funk representing the mellow part of her personality & drum and bass highlighting her wilder side.

To coincide with the release of the single, Loveday will appear on Channel 5’s The Gadget Show whereby she competed against a deep fake (the gadget) to see who could perform ‘House of the Rising Sun’ to the highest standard. The judge, a senior staff writer at NME, concluded that Loveday beat the gadget.

‘Superficial Life’ is out now.

Standout Bristol-born house DJ / producer Eli Brown is on the path of global dancefloor domination and today he releases “BS48” on Big Beat Records. It’s the perfect aural representation of his unique and vibrant twist on classic house that he melds with elements of drum and bass, making for a sonic concoction that’ll soon be tearing up clubs around the world.

Having emerged from the shadows of Bristol’s fabled drum and bass scene, Eli Brown has rapidly established himself as an artist of real distinction in the house music world. His singularly sinister, twisted records have made an immediate impact, with Repopulate Mars, ViVA Music, Toolroom and more all recognizing his raw, sometimes caustic talent. His 2017 track “Sumatra” released on Toolroom in late 2017 was one of the biggest selling tracks of the year. Airplay of ‘Acid Test’ from BBC Radio 1 tastemakers Annie Mac and Monki, and A-list DJs Groove Armada, Leftwing & Kody and Solardo on Rinse FM have further enhanced the standing of Eli Brown and his music. The first few months of 2018 alone saw releases with Lee Foss’s Repopuate Mars, Green Velvet’s Relief, Solardo’s Sola and elrow: an impressive roll call by anyone’s standards.

2019 has proven to be his most prolific year yet, with Eli Brown releasing a flurry of singles and EPs alongside some of the most respected names in dance music, including the two-track “Our Love” EP with Will Clarke, “Always” EP released on Toolroom Records, “Hurt Me” with Sonny Fodera, and “Brazil”, a collaboration with Lee Foss and Anabel Englund, which went on to earn the title of BBC Radio 1 ‘Hottest track in the world’ by Danny Howard. Things have been similarly exciting on the live front, with Eli Brown making his Electric Daisy Carnival debut and playing no fewer than six sets across Miami Music Week.

Showing no signs of taking his foot off the gas, he recently collaborated with Manchester duo Solardo on ‘XTC’ which earned Eli Brown his second ‘Hottest Record In The World’ this year with Annie Mac, while also making Ibiza his summer base. If you’re not already on Eli Brown’s runaway train, you’d better act quickly.

San Diego born Cheyenne Giles has unleashed a mammoth single as his debut release on Tiësto’s Musical Freedom imprint. Blow the Whistle is an epic big room explosion from this exciting new artist. With over 8 residencies in the US, and 10 years of DJ’ing under his belt, Giles is a talent that showcases phenomenal turntable skill. One year into his career as a producer, and his achievements are stacking up quickly.

Cheyenne Giles’ name exploded after his first official remix of Martin Solveig’s All Stars reached over a million streams on Spotify alone. 2018 continued to be a memorable year for Giles when he was named BPMSupreme’s EDM DJ of the year as well as that year’s Best Producer. Riding the wave of success, Cheyenne Giles saw his release with Playboxx records shoot to Beatport’s top 10 charts. His inimitable form of big room and tech house calls upon heavy weight elements of bass and trap. He plays with a dynamic amalgamation of sounds that’s led to wide support from leading tastemakers in the dance music realm, in a relatively short space of time.

Blow The Whistle was given a fine debut by Tiësto himself. The track was played to hundreds of thousands of eager fans at his headline EDC set earlier this year. Since then, excitement has been bubbling for its official Musical Freedom release. The new single is a pulsing injection of dance, prepped and primed for feisty festival audiences thirsty for the most hard-hitting of basslines. Blow The Whistle solidifies Cheyenne Giles as a proven talent who’s skills derived from years of working the room, and owning his craft. His music perfects a hurtling, bold sound that will soar through this year’s mainstages. To follow, will be a string of equally fearless releases that will continue to break boundaries with Giles’ unmistakable force.

Cheyenne Giles – Blow The Whistle is out now!

Betical are a French duo made up of two brothers, Max & Martin Hoet. The pair grew up together immersed in the electronic music scene. They found their musical home within the prolific French touch movement. Betical’s most recent single, Runnin, is a sophisticated and surprisingly delicate house effort. The new video, written and co-directed by Betical themselves, exaggerates these trademark elements, along with the subtle sombre atmosphere. Somewhat abstract, the video follows a mesmerising and minimalistic landscape that projects Betical’s visions perfectly.

The Betical brothers love embracing the arts in many forms. Combining graphic design into the project means they’ve created a uniquely personal brand, artwork and other visual assets from scratch. Revitalising creativity audibly and otherwise, the pair have mesmerised followers with their interpretation of retro game inspired videos, artistically sparse live sessions and meticulously hand drawn story boards.

Since inception, Betical have moulded a concrete space for their sleek and expansive sound. After their first release, Betical went on to explore a majestically poised sound. This trademark truly came to life within single Control, which quickly garnered 900 thousand Spotify streams. Betical’s musical influence expanded again with remixes of Alex Adair’s vocal heavy Casual, and similarly dynamic Back For More. It is argued that the brothers are most predominately known for their dreamy reimagination of Kungs’ This Girl. This deep house slanted tune propelled these humble artists to the speakers of tastemakers from BBC Radio 1, which led to impressive plays and memorable support.

“The video clip of Runnin was created to portray the pressure that some people may experience nowadays. It represents a metaphor of our generation in a way.

We can see only one character in the clip who, stuck in a chaotic world, wishes to bloom in an emptier and more solitary world while finding an inner peace. It links to the lyrics of the song which also emphasize this desire to escape the world of today, and to achieve a desire of freedom.” – BETICAL

Runnin is a particularly powerful and obscurely progressive new single from Betical. The intention to speak to a vulnerability within the young generation is clear and direct. The sinister tinged visuals tell a hidden narrative: a desperate need for independence, and eventually escape. Runnin’s black and white video is assertive, strong and poignant. It’s bleeds effortlessly with Betical’s building synth lines and reminiscent melody in order to re-establish a connection between Betical and their audience. The horse symbolises a message of guidance, a journey to find your inner strength. Ultimately, Runnin is an exceptionally touching invitation to get unequivocally lost.

Betical – Runnin Video is out now and can be viewed above this post.
