Her vocals add a sultry, smoky roomed edge to the smooth tones of Drax Project’s Shaan Singh on “Disrespect”.

Like previous Drax Project hits “Woke Up Late”, “Atmosphere” and “Catching Feelings” – “Disrespect” is notable for its combination of a soothingly nonchalant melody over a disarmingly infectious rhythmic base. It’s a contrarily respectful ode to taking a chance!

“We wrote Disrespect in LA with Rogét (Chahayed), Imad (Royal) and Mary (Weitz) in a single day back in 2019. It’s been in our heads ever since, but we all felt it was dying for a feature. In meeting Charley, we instantly knew that she was it! Her jumping onboard has taken the song to another level!” explain Drax Project.

The track pairs smooth pop vocals, an irresistible beat and unapologetically candid lyrics detailing a night out / morning in.  With over 30 million streams worldwide and growing daily, the “Woke Up Late” music video features YouTube star Liza Koshy in a fun and refreshing story full of charisma and feel-good vibes.

Directed by Jon-Singer Vine and Executive Produced by Colin Tilley (Selena Gomez, Halsey, Cardi B, Kendrick Lamar), the video follows lead singer Shaan Singh as he wakes up in an unfamiliar room, realizing that the girl he met the night before (Liza Koshy) has forgotten her keys on the way to work. The following four minutes feature fast paced cuts between Shaan’s searching and an unaware Liza Koshy as she dances her way through the sunny streets of Los Angeles.

“This was our first time shooting a video in LA and we couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to work with,” the group explains. “Liza Koshy is an absolute pleasure to be around and we were so grateful that she wanted to be a part of our video! Working with Colin was amazing too. He’s directed some of our favorite videos for some of our favorite artists, so to have the opportunity to work with him was incredible. Fingers crossed we’re able to work with him and his team again in the future!”

“Woke Up Late” was handpicked as Zane Lowe’s World Record + Amazon’s Song Of The Day, debuted on Billboard’s Pop Songs Chart, and won “Single Of The Year” in the 2018 VNZMAs, where Drax Project was also awarded “Breakthrough Artist”.

Woke Up Late is about wrapping your head around the adventure of the night before and ultimately deciding that you’re cool with it. Given the nature of this story, it did cross our minds while writing it as to how it might work as a duet – with a female voice telling her side. We’re all huge big fans of “Starving” and “Let Me Go,” so were beyond stoked to get Hailee on song! She absolutely kills it in movies and in music. The four-piece, comprised of Shaan, Matt, Ben and Sam, went from busking on the streets of Wellington, NZ, to playing alongside massive acts such as Ed Sheeran, Camila Cabelloand Lorde. They were hand-picked by Lorde and Camila to be direct support on their tours and even broke Lorde’s record for the fastest selling club show in Auckland history, selling out in three minutes.  2018 EP NOON introduced four additional songs, including certified gold Toto, alongside hit Woke Up Late and showcased a unique blend of pop, R&B, jazz and hip-hop. Woke Up Late went on to win Single of the Year at the 2018 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards.

The heat of New Zealand’s summer bore down on the massive crowds as the twelve hour music festival kicked into action.

Samsung New Zealand invited us from STG to attend Auckland City Limits which boasted both local and big name artists across six massive stages (six including the Kiddie Limits area).

Local groups such as SWIDT, Katchafire, P Money, Scribe and more played alongside international giants; Justice, Beck, Sigrid and the legendary Grace Jones.

In all there were over thirty five bands or artists catering for most genres from indie to pop through to hip hop and electric, spread across the stages at the massive open area that is Western Springs Park in Auckland, New Zealand.

As with any large outdoor festival it was a case of checking the play schedule online and traversing across the green to each stadium to catch the acts that you had come to see.

Tash Sultana interacted with her audience and displayed her amazing array of musical talents, Sigrid played a selection of her well known tracks and DJ Tina Turntables had the crowds pumping.

While U.S. rap artist Justice failed to impress with his low key energetic performance. Head Like a Hole did not fail to deliver and Beck overly impressed his captivated attendees… and then there was one of the final acts of the day; the pioneer-ess, the legend that is Grace Jones.

Myself and the entire crowds at the Aroha Stage were left wanting more as Grace both engaged and mesmerized us with her artistry, spontaneity and a mix of her new material and signature classics such as ‘Pull Up to the Bumper’ being her outro song.

Auckland City Limits was a day for music fans of every genre. A day for families, friends and those that just wanted to kick back and chill on the grass.

Our mates at Edifier also featured with a non-stop Silent Disco.

Auckland City Limits was THE music event of 2018 and if you weren’t among the thousands of attendees, you have twelve months to prep yourself to be at the next one.
