A remake of a Rebirth as 2024’s Final Fantasy RPG now releases for PC gamers.
From Square Enix comes the next instalment in the decades long fantastical franchise being the sequel to Final Fantasy VII Remake (2020).
You are a former elite Soldier, turned mercenary called Cloud Strike, and your adventure awaits on ‘The Planet’ where you and a group of heroes are set to take down the oppressive Shinra Electric Power Company.
The Shinra Electric Power Company or SEPC has a main protagonist, Sephiroth, who has taken it upon himself to cripple ‘The Planet’ with a meteor.
As Cloud Strife, you are a part of a larger group called Avalanche and with a small group of allies you will stop SEPC’s exploitation of resources while taking down Sephiroth.
For fans and veterans of Final Fantasy, the gameplay is a similar affair.
RPG in nature with a wealth of player, item and character levels, character stats and a vast open-ended world before you. Explore with multiple side-quests while on main narrative missions and ultimately sink yourself not only into the expansive Final Fantasy lore, but also within this game’s deep storyline.
To get yourself around faster than on foot the game allows you to ride Chocobos. And I recommend you ride like the wind. There’s a lot to see and do.
Combat in Final Fantasy Rebirth is not turn based, it uses something similar, but different, called ‘Active Time Battle (ATB).
ATB gives you control over your characters’ moves. You can opt for ‘Classic’ and this has a more automated response, giving you the time to focus solely on specific moves via a command selection, and is more reminiscent of the franchise’s turn-based combat.
Unique to Final Fantasy Rebirth is ‘Synergy’. This, in combat, enables you and a member of your team to combine attacks in super style.
This remake of Final Fantasy Rebirth for PC comes with all available DLC, bringing the complete package to PC gamers.
Cinematic, beautifully detailed and a lengthy playthrough, Final Fantasy Rebirth is a must have for fans of the series or those that want to dip their toes into the Final Fantasy realm with accents of the series’ original flavour.
A huge game, with a huge data footprint, the only downside to Final Fantasy Rebirth is that you will need the drive space to install.
