A milestone in gaming  has now come about as we gamers begin embracing the first in what is clearly the beginning of the next generation of home based video gaming consoles.

Today sees the release of Nintendo’s Wii successor, the Wii – U hitting stores and for much of Australia, video gaming chain store; EB Games celebrated this landmark event with midnight openings.

Not only was the demand high and turn out as equally impressive, the Wii – U is backed by a strong first and third party game lineup at launch.

The strongest infact that I have witnessed in any video game console release.

Out now to compliment the console and it’s functionality are titles from Ubisoft, Activision, Warner Bros., THQ and more.

Here’s the official list:

Funky Barn – 505 Games

COD: Black Ops II – Activision

Skylanders Giants – Activision

Transformers Prime – Activision

FIFA 13 – EA Games

Mass Effect 3 Special Edition – EA Games

Ben 10: Omniverse – Namco Bandai

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 – Namco Bandai

Family Party: 30 Great Games Obstacle Arcade – Namco Bandai

Tank! Tank! Tank! – Namco Bandai

Nintendo Land – Nintendo

New Super Mario Bros. U – Nintendo

Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed – SEGA

Warriors Orochi: Hyper – Tecmo Koei

Darksiders 2 – THQ

Assassin’s Creed III – Ubisoft

Just Dance 4 – Ubisoft

Rabbids Land – Ubisoft

Sports Connection – Ubisoft

Your Shape: Fitness Evolved – Ubisoft

ZombieU – Ubisoft

Batman Arkham City: Armoured Edition – Warner Bros.

Game Party Champions – Warner Bros.

Scribblenauts – Warner Bros.

Nintendo have always been the trend setters that other console giants eventually mimic. The Wii – U resets the way we play games, and re-adapts us to a new form of playability.

Encompassing a Remote with a built in touch screen, (for the first time for Nintendo) Full HD, 3DS integration and thankfully, backwards compatibility. So don’t discard all of your Wii games and Wii Remotes.

Now we will wait to see what the other players have in store for their next gen units.
