She has toured and performed with Sir Paul McCartney, KD Lang, Sting, Ray Charles and Michael Jackson and now Kiwi music legend Annie Crummer is teaming up with Te Auaha New Zealand Institute of Creativity students for two concerts which will rejoice in her multi‐award winning career.
The concerts will feature Whitireia music students (part of Te Auaha) and the work of dance, performance, hair and make‐up artistry students – all from Te Auaha – making the concerts a celebration not only of Annie’s creativity, but also of Te Auaha students.
“This is a rare opportunity for fans of one of New Zealand’s most acclaimed performing artists to see Annie and a team of talented musicians perform songs from her three decade‐long career as a solo performer and in international musical theatre,” says Victoria Spackman, Director Te Auaha.
Annie Crummer and Te Auaha music tutor Phil Hornblow are joining forces as the musical directors of the shows.
“We are very fortunate to have Annie working with our students and tutors. This type of collaboration exemplifies Te Auaha – bringing our music degree and rock, jazz and commercial music students together with our performance and dance students to create a spectacular show, with hair and make‐up students styling the performers. It’s likely that other students and graduates will get involved as momentum builds,” says Victoria Spackman.
Annie has a long association with Whitireia music programmes which are now delivered at Te Auaha.
“Annie honoured us by opening the music facilities at the Whitireia Porirua campus in 1996. It’s great to have Annie’s long association with Whitireia music continuing now that our programmes are delivered at Te Auaha in Wellington city. Annie is the first of many guest artists who will work with our music students. I’m excited to see these shows, which I’m sure will bring the magic of Annie’s music alive for us all,” says Victoria Spackman.
The concerts are at Te Auaha at 8pm on Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th August 2018.
