Blizzard has revealed five brand-new heroes arriving in Overwatch as part of the game’s newly launched story-driven era. The characters will debut with Season 1 on February 10, kicking off the year-long Reign of Talon narrative.
The hero reveal was part of Overwatch Spotlight 2026, the same event where Blizzard confirmed the game is no longer called Overwatch 2. Together, the rename and hero drop form the foundation of what Blizzard is positioning as a full franchise reset.
The Five Heroes Launching In Season 1
Season 1 introduces Domina, Emre, Mizuki, Anran, and Jetpack Cat. Each hero is tied directly into the Reign of Talon storyline, rather than existing as a standalone addition.
Domina (Tank) – Long-Range Zone Control

- Role identity: Poke-focused tank built to control space at medium to long range
- Primary fire: Photon Magnum, a sustained beam that ends with a high-impact shot
- Defensive tool: Barrier Array, a segmented hard-light wall that must be destroyed piece by piece
- Displacement: Sonic Repulsors knock enemies back and can stun them if they hit terrain
- Ultimate: Panopticon traps enemies inside a hard-light prison before detonating
- Passive: Using abilities restores shields, rewarding active play rather than shield camping
Domina is the first true poke tank since Sigma, designed to punish poorly timed pushes and lock down choke points.
Emre (Damage) – High-Tempo Run-And-Gun DPS

- Role identity: Aggressive damage hero with strong burst and mobility
- Primary fire: Synthetic Burst Rifle with three-round bursts
- Precision option: Take Aim tightens accuracy and increases effective range
- Mobility tool: Cyber Frag bounces and can be used to launch Emre to high ground
- Sustain ability: Siphon Blaster swaps to life-stealing explosive rounds
- Ultimate: Override Protocol turns Emre into a living weapon with rapid explosives or charged shots
- Passive: Health regeneration triggers faster and restores bonus health
Emre rewards constant movement and pressure, thriving in fast-paced skirmishes rather than static duels.
Mizuki (Support) – Frontline, Combat-Driven Healing

- Role identity: Support who heals best while actively fighting
- Primary fire: Spirit Glaive, a spinning blade that bounces and deals rapid damage
- Healing tool: Healing Kasa chains healing between allies and returns to Mizuki
- Positioning skill: Katashiro Return lets Mizuki leap forward, mark a spot, then snap back
- Crowd control: Binding Chain tethers and slows the first enemy hit
- Ultimate: Kekkai Sanctuary creates a healing zone that absorbs incoming projectiles
- Passive: Healing aura scales based on damage dealt and healing output
Mizuki encourages frontline presence rather than passive backline support play.
Anran (Damage) – Burst Fire And Risk-Reward Survival

- Role identity: Fire-based burst damage hero built for aggressive engagements
- Primary fire: Zhuque Fans that ignite enemies
- Damage amplifier: Fan the Flames boosts damage on burning targets
- Mobility: Inferno Rush propels Anran forward through enemies
- Defensive strike: Dancing Blaze hits nearby foes while dodging incoming damage
- Ultimate (Alive): Vermillion Ascent charges forward in a fiery explosion
- Ultimate (Dead): Vermillion Revival resurrects Anran in a blast of flame
- Passive: Fire attacks apply burn damage over time
Anran is available early through a Hero Trial starting February 5, letting players test her high-risk playstyle before full release.
Jetpack Cat (Support) – Permanent Flight And Ally Transport

- Role identity: Mobile support built around movement and repositioning
- Primary fire: Biotic Pawjectiles that heal allies and damage enemies
- Signature ability: Lifeline tows allies through the air, healing them during transport
- Mobility boost: Frenetic Flight accelerates movement, with fuel trade-offs when carrying players
- Area healing: Purr pulses healing and knocks back nearby enemies
- Ultimate: Catnapper dives onto a target area, knocking enemies down and tethering one opponent
- Passive: Permanent flight
Jetpack Cat is the first support hero with always-on flight, a mechanic Blizzard has said will be closely monitored for balance.
Ten Heroes Planned Across 2026
Blizzard confirmed that these five heroes are only the beginning. A total of ten new heroes are planned for 2026, with one additional hero launching in each season through Season 6.

Developers told media during the event that improved tools and workflows have significantly reduced hero development time, allowing for faster releases without cutting depth or polish.
New Role Sub-Roles And Balance Considerations
Season 1 introduces a major role system update in Overwatch, splitting Tanks, Damage, and Supports into defined sub-roles. Each sub-role grants a passive bonus designed to reinforce playstyle and reduce overlap between heroes.
Tank Sub-Roles
Tank heroes are now divided into three categories, shaping how they absorb pressure and control space.
Bruiser
- Passive: Reduces critical damage taken, gains movement speed when at critical health
- Playstyle: Frontline brawlers who thrive in sustained fights
- Heroes: Mauga, Orisa, Roadhog, Zarya
Initiator
- Passive: Staying airborne provides light self-healing
- Playstyle: Dive tanks built to engage quickly and disrupt backlines
- Heroes: D.Va, Doomfist, Winston, Wrecking Ball
Stalwart
- Passive: Reduced knockbacks and slows

Damage Sub-Roles
Damage heroes are split into four groups, clarifying how they generate pressure and secure eliminations.

Support Sub-Roles
Support heroes now fall into three categories that define how they generate value beyond raw healing.
Tactician
- Passive: Excess ultimate charge carries over after ultimate use
- Playstyle: Tempo controllers who cycle ultimates efficiently
- Heroes: Ana, Baptiste, Jetpack Cat, Lucio, Zenyatta
Medic
- Passive: Healing allies with weapons also heals the user

- Playstyle: Durable supports that survive dives and prolonged fights
- Heroes: Brigitte, Illari, Juno, Mizuki, Wuyang
Why This System Matters In Practice
This sub-role system is designed to:
- Clarify hero identity as the roster grows
- Reduce balance overlap as ten new heroes arrive in 2026
- Make team composition choices more intentional
Blizzard has positioned this as a long-term structural change rather than a seasonal experiment, meaning these sub-roles will shape balance decisions moving forward.
