Valheim’s Price Jumps to $30 With 1.0 Launch, Ocean Biome’s Future Unclear

Valheim is finally shedding its Early Access label, and that milestone comes with a price increase. According to GamingBolt, Iron Gate Studio’s survival hit will jump from $20 to $30 when its 1.0 update launches on September 9, bringing with it a new ice-covered Deep North biome.
The update also marks Valheim’s arrival on PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2, expanding beyond its current home on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One. Anyone hoping to grab the game at its current, lower price has just over two months left to do so before the September launch.
A New Price Tag for a Full Release
Valheim has spent five years in Early Access since its initial launch, steadily building a devoted community across multiple platforms. GamingBolt notes that with the 1.0 release now finally locked in, the studio is treating the price bump as the game graduating into a complete product rather than an ongoing work in progress.
For newcomers, that means picking up Valheim before September could save a bit of money, though it also means jumping in before the game’s mechanics shift with the Deep North content. Existing players, meanwhile, may want to consider starting fresh saves to make the most of the new biome and any accompanying changes.
Ocean Biome Left in Limbo
One point of concern among fans, as highlighted by GamingBolt, is the apparent absence of new content for the game’s Ocean biome, an addition that had previously appeared on Iron Gate’s public roadmap. Speculation is mounting that this particular promise might not make it into the 1.0 release at all.
Iron Gate hasn’t ruled out further updates, but the studio also isn’t making any firm commitments. In an FAQ cited by GamingBolt, the developer stated: “We will continue to improve the game with bug fixes and quality of life stuff, though for exactly how long the game will continue to receive updates is currently too soon to say. Likewise, it is too soon to say whether or not there will be more content added to the game in the future—but as always, we will be sure to announce any news on our channels!”
That noncommittal stance leaves the door open for future expansions, but offers no guarantees. Players hoping for a more fleshed-out Ocean biome will likely need to wait for official word rather than assume it’s coming with 1.0.
What This Means for Players
Despite the uncertainty around long-term content, Valheim’s move to 1.0 represents a major moment for a game that has become one of the standout survival titles of the past several years. The addition of console platforms like PS5 and Switch 2 should also introduce the game to a considerably wider audience.
Whether or not Iron Gate continues to expand Valheim’s world beyond the Deep North biome, the studio’s commitment to ongoing bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements suggests players won’t be left completely in the dark after launch. For now, all eyes are on September 9 to see exactly what the full release brings.
