Cronos: Lazarus Gameplay Reveals Pathfinder’s Teleport, Decoy Powers and Gladius Weapon

Bloober Team has revealed new gameplay details for Cronos: Lazarus, the upcoming expansion to its sci-fi horror title Cronos: The New Dawn. According to GamingBolt, the studio shared a developer diary showcasing the abilities and equipment available to the Pathfinder, the protagonist who is destined to become the Warden from the base game.

Unlike the original game’s more cautious, resource-conserving approach, this expansion reportedly leans into a more aggressive playstyle. As GamingBolt notes, the Pathfinder is shown terminating Orphans “with extreme prejudice” rather than carefully managing supplies, signaling a shift in tone and combat philosophy for this chapter of the story.

Teleportation and Decoy Abilities Take Center Stage

The developer diary outlines two new abilities that define the Pathfinder’s combat style. Teleportation allows for faster movement through levels and can be used to catch enemies off guard during fights, according to GamingBolt’s coverage of the reveal.

The second ability, Decoy, creates a duplicate of the Pathfinder to draw enemy attention while the real character turns invisible. This opens up opportunities to either create distance from threats or fire freely without being detected, as detailed in the gameplay showcase.

Notably, these two powers can be combined for tactical advantage. GamingBolt reports that using Teleportation reduces the cooldown on Decoy, encouraging players to chain the abilities together for more fluid and aggressive encounters.

A Deadlier Weapon and a New Hunter

Alongside these abilities, the Pathfinder wields the Gladius, described in the developer diary as a more lethal upgrade to the Dagger from the base game. The weapon is said to be “quicker and stronger,” giving players an edge in close-quarters combat against the expansion’s enemies.

Given the Pathfinder’s growing arsenal, the Collective has apparently dispatched a specialized threat to counter him: an enemy called the Envoy. According to GamingBolt, this adversary has been specifically tailored to hunt the Pathfinder, setting up moments where the roles of hunter and hunted are reversed throughout the story.

Despite this looming threat, the Pathfinder’s mission reportedly continues uninterrupted, as he searches for someone described as deeply important to him. Further story details remain under wraps ahead of the expansion’s release.

Release Details

Cronos: Lazarus is set to launch this Fall on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2, according to GamingBolt. The expansion follows the announcement made last month and builds directly on the world established in Cronos: The New Dawn, which reportedly recently broke even for Bloober Team.
