A fan ran onto the stage during the second map of the Falcons against Spirit semi-final at the IEM Cologne 2026 Major, prompting ESL to step up security at the LANXESS Arena. The audience member breached the stage area during the fourth round of the map on 20 June, ran the length of the stage, and disappeared back into the crowd before being removed from the venue.

ESL had already posted extra security around the catwalk ahead of the match in anticipation of an incursion, but staff were unable to stop the fan reaching the playing area. The disruption lasted only a few seconds and did not interrupt play.
What Happened During the Falcons vs Spirit Semi-Final
The breach occurred during map two of the semi-final between Falcons and Spirit. The fan entered the stage during round four, ran down its length, and melted back into the audience, as shown in a clip posted by Tamilla “irbitka” Bashirova on Telegram. Security escorted the individual out of the LANXESS Arena shortly afterwards.
ESL confirmed the removal in a statement to HLTV. “Earlier today, a security breach occurred when a fan gained unauthorized access to the stage area. We took immediate action and removed the offender from the venue,” the organiser said. “Additional security measures have since been implemented to help prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. The safety and security of players, talent, staff, and attendees remain our top priority, and we take matters of this nature very seriously.”
ESL Steps Up Security Around the Catwalk
ESL had pre-emptively increased security around the catwalk before the second semi-final began, anticipating that an incursion might occur. That early measure was not enough to stop the fan reaching the stage. After the breach, organisers posted additional personnel around the catwalk and stage for the rest of the match.
ESL confirmed it will maintain the heightened security levels for the remainder of the tournament to protect players, broadcast staff, talent and attendees.
Echoes of the PGL Copenhagen 2024 Stage Invasion
The brief disruption recalls the stage invasion at the PGL Copenhagen Major 2024, when skins site CSGOEmpire charged the stage in an orchestrated protest. The Cologne incident differs in character, reading as a single fan misbehaving rather than a coordinated interruption.
Falcons and Spirit reached the semi-finals after both sides came through an exhilarating quarter-final stage in Cologne. With heightened security now in place around the catwalk and stage, the tournament continues at the LANXESS Arena toward its final.
