Below, we break down everything you need to know about the mobile debut, the next gen upgrades, and why this release is such a big deal for the Red Dead community.
A Western Classic Reborn
Red Dead Redemption first launched in 2010 and remains one of Rockstar’s most celebrated titles, second only to Grand Theft Auto. Set in 1911, the game follows former outlaw John Marston as he’s forced by federal agents to hunt down the remnants of the Van der Linde Gang to save his kidnapped family.
Players can now relive Marston’s emotional journey across the American frontier and northern Mexico in a refreshed, modern release that bundles in the full Undead Nightmare expansion.
This version includes all single player content from the Game of the Year Edition, bringing both stories together for new players and long-time fans alike.

This standalone story drops Marston into a plague ridden frontier, with towns falling to chaos and hordes of the undead swarming every path. It remains one of Rockstar’s most memorable alternate universe adventures, and its inclusion across all platforms ensures players everywhere can jump straight into the undead mayhem.
Now Available on Mobile Through Netflix
For the first time ever, Red Dead Redemption is officially playable on iOS and Android devices. These mobile versions feature touch friendly controls, navigation optimised for handheld screens, and an optional performance mode for higher framerates on compatible devices.
Netflix subscribers can download both Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare directly from the Netflix app at no extra cost. The titles require an internet connection to play and currently do not include multiplayer modes, keeping the focus on the single player experience.
This release also strengthens Netflix’s growing push into gaming. Mobile downloads for Netflix Games surged in 2024, and landing a major Rockstar franchise marks one of its boldest moves yet.

Enhanced for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2
Players on newer consoles are getting a noticeably smoother, sharper version of Red Dead Redemption. All current owners of the PS4, Xbox One, or original Switch versions can claim digital upgrades for free.
Enhancements include:
- A consistent 60 frames-per-second experience
- Sharper image quality
- HDR support
- Up to 4K resolution on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S
- DLSS support, mouse controls, HDR, and high resolution 60 FPS performance on Nintendo Switch 2
Progress carries over too. PS4 players can move directly into the PS5 version with their previous saves, while Switch owners can upgrade via the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Upgrade Pack and continue where they left off. Xbox players with the digital edition can simply download the new version from the Microsoft Store.
These enhanced editions were developed with Double Eleven and Cast Iron Games and are also included in the GTA+ Games Library and the PlayStation Plus Game Catalogue.
Why This Matters for the Franchise
Red Dead Redemption arriving on mobile and synchronising across all major platforms is a huge moment for Rockstar’s Western universe. With fan speculation brewing about the future of the series, this release could refresh interest in the franchise as a whole.
Between Netflix Games, new console upgrades, and wider accessibility, even players who missed the original 2010 launch now have every reason to saddle up for the adventure.
