Ring are back at your doorstep to protect your parcels from porch pirates and to give you that added security of what happens around your front porch when you’re not there.

The first Ring Battery Video Doorbell has and still is an excellent super reliable device with a builtin camera and two way mic / speaker that enables you to see, record (with subscription) and talk to whoever maybe ringing your doorbell.

This new model improves on that experience.

With a clearer, sharper and full head to toe camera you can not only see in near-to crystal clarity the person at the door, but also where they may have left the parcel.

With a 150 to 150 degree of view you can also see a wider and further field, where you will also get alerts from a farther distance.

Setting up a Ring Battery Video Doorbell is super easy. Ring give you all of the tools that you need to mount the device near your door and you’ll need to download the Ring app to sync up the door bell to your phone.

A change to installing with the second gen model is a push pin to secure it to the supplied bracket.

The Ring Battery Video Doorbell requires access to your WiFi and is able to be viewed remotely from anywhere. Pair this up with a Ring Chime and you’ll hear your door bell being rung anywhere in the house. You can also sync up with Alexa – the Ring app will of course send you notifications to your smartphone, although I have found that those notifications can sometimes be delayed.

Night time is really where the Ring Battery Video Doorbell second gen has full colour nightvision, and while it is not as sharp as daytime, it is still clear enough to see what maybe lurking around in the dark.

The Ring Battery Video Doorbell is battery powered, as per its name. The large battery is housed inside the device and remains internal for easier charging.

I’d find that the first Battery Video Doorbell would give me roughly one to one and a half weeks of life from a full charge.

The newmodel has improved on that a lot. I’ve had the device for around two weeks now and while it is currently sitting at 40% battery life, this is from the very first charge-up since receiving.

Renting or home owner, a Ring Battery Video Doorbell is an all-in-one. An outside security camera that can monitor the proximity that you set around your home, as well as being it’s namesake, alerting you and recording each door bell ring or motion.

But to note, in order to save any recording you do need to pay for a yearly subscription with Ring.com.

The prior Ring Battery Video Doorbell has been a trusted and super reliable device, now with this new one that gives an even wider scope, better video capturing options and a longer battery life it is now the permanent guardian of my front porch.

An excellent smart home security device that is always on alert and ensures you never miss a ring or a parcel again.

Ring has just introduced their new Ring Battery Video Doorbell, the next generation of the Video Doorbell 2nd Gen.

This new device comes with added features including Head-to-Toe HD video, Colour Night Vision and seamless DIY installation. Battery Video Doorbell delivers up to 23% longer battery life than the previous model.

Secure your porch, see who is at your door and never miss a delivery again with the new Ring Battery Video Doorbell Pro.

I have had the previous Ring Video Doorbell unit for a few years now – and it has been an excellent and reliable home security device.

From strangers skulking about the front door to deliveries when I am not home, even once it caught a giant cricket walking across the HD camera lens at night (true story).

Now the newly released Ring Battery Video Doorbell Pro is here and while it retains some of the looks, feels and smarts of its predecessor it has a whole lot more to give.

First up, if you already have a Ring Video Doorbell, battery or wired, then it’s easy as to connect this new one via the Ring app for Android or iOS into your home’s WiFi network.

Likewise linking up a Ring Chime (sold separately), which will sync up with two Ring Video Doorbells simultaneously.

Once your good to go and connected you’ll set up your monitor zones and with this new model also a bird’s eye view.

There’s also some DIY to mount it where you think is the best spot next to your door or entry point. Ring actually provide you all of the bits in the box, including the screw driver.

To place and remove the battery you need to remove a screw, so don’t lose the supplied the tool.

The new Ring Battery Video Doorbell Pro is head-to-toes HD video with full 3D motion and colour night recording.

Now this bird’s eye view thing – you’re not going to be able to see who it is, but you will see the path they take to and from your door.

As with the previous model you can have a two-way convo with whoever is at your door. You’ll receive a visual alert on your smart device and be able to check the recording.

But here’s the gotcha bit. To save recordings you do need a subscription which is paid yearly. It’s not too much and I do fully recommend having one, if you do get yourself a Ring Battery Video Doorbell Pro.

There is a short free trial from the box though.

The Ring Battery Video Doorbell Pro has some of the best motion sensors around. If you set it up, the Ring Battery Video Doorbell Pro app will alert you that you someone is around your porch. Of course likewise if there is a doorbell ring.

The new Ring Battery Video Doorbell Pro is slimmer and the battery, for me at my place with a shared driveway and access area, last a few days more from a full charge than the previous model.

In all the new Ring Battery Video Doorbell Pro takes a lot of what made the first battery unit great and improves on it all the while maximising the lifespan and shedding a bit of girth.

If you have a smarthome, or are just security conscious the Ring Battery Video Doorbell Pro is a must, but bear in mind that ongoing cost of an annual subscription.

Today, Ring announces the launch of its Battery Video Doorbell Plus.

With a battery life that’s up to three times better than Ring’s first doorbell, Battery Video Doorbell Plus offers advanced features including a 150 x 150-degree field of view and the highest HD resolution of any Ring battery doorbell.

Ring’s head-to-toe 150×150-degree expanded field of view makes features like Package Alerts with a Ring Protect subscription even more useful, as users can check on deliveries on their doorstep and receive notifications as soon as a package is detected within a specified zone. At 1536p, Ring’s highest HD resolution, Battery Video Doorbell Plus provides the clearest and crispest view of everything happening at a user’s front door.

Home security innovators, Ring, have taken their already stellar Video Doorbell series and released the Video Doorbell Pro 2 which gives you the full 360 view.

We received one of their Pro 2’s with the optional extra Chime and beefed up my outside security.

Firstly Ring provide you with everything you’re likely to need to get yourself up and running.

The Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 is wired, so you’ll need to either run the A/C power adaptor cable through a gap in the door or through a closed window if possible. The cable is thankfully thin.

Or if you already have a electronically wired doorbell you can just reuse the same cabling (recommend you get an electrician in to do this though).

Once you’re all powered up it’s time for the Ring magic.

As I’d already setup and reviewed the Ring Video Doorbell 3  (Wireless) and the cheaper Ring Video Doorbell Wired prior I had the app on my smartphone. You’ll need this to get both the Pro 2 and the additional Chime (sold separately) setup.

The Ring app for Android or iOS is fairly straightforward and easy enough for newbies. I had an advantage, obviously, as I had setup a couple of these before.

The Chime is designed to be placed indoors and plugs directly in to a power outlet. Both the Pro 2 and Chime will then connect to your home’s WiFi. They will also integrate into Google Home, Apple Homekit or Alexa.

Then it’s a series of tweaks and customisation from the options of differing chimes and setting alerts.

The Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 is a huge leap over its predecessor.

Instead of a upper half body shot of someone at your door, the Pro 2 goes for the full monty, head to toe, using a 360 motion lens.

An even newer feature is the inclusion of a birds-eye view using the 3D motion detection with a history of when the camera was first triggered to the point it stopped recording. You’ll set your own surveillance boundary, so that… well, you’re not spying on the neighbours and picking up alerts everytime they step outside in their dressing gown to put something in the rubbish bin.

It will record movement outside (if you chose this option to be on) and of course will begin recording instantly when someone pushes the doorbell.

The Ring Video Doorbell’s begin to record instantly – with a pre-roll at first in standard low-res black and white for around 1 to 2 seconds until the FHD recording starts up.

Equipped with night vision the Pro 2 will record in HD even if it’s pitch black outside.

You’ll receive alerts of motion or a ring of the doorbell on your smartphone or tablet no matter where you are.

Ring have recently upgraded their app and you can set reminders aswell as geo-fencing alerts to arm or disarm the Video Doorbell Pro 2.

Via the app you can have a two way conversation with whoever may be at your door. Ring have also improved the voice clarity with the Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2.

You can view the recordings which are saved in the cloud – but without a 12 month subscription you cannot save or download.

I’m still on the fence (pun intended) about requiring a subscription to be able to save or download a recording. I’d like to see Ring offering at least a 24 hour window to be able to grab the recording if you need it.

This said, if you are serious about who is skulking around the front of your door you’re likely to sign on to the 12 month subscription anyway – it is super cheap and of course beneficial to do so.

So if you’re waiting for those online shopping goodies to arrive and know that for sure the courier is going to wait until you’re not home to delver them, or at the very least just for peace of mind, the Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 is a huge step up from last years Pro and the superior method of keeping your home and yard secure.

Missing parcels or just worried about who might be skulking around your door when you’re not home (or at home)?

Ring Video Doorbell has got your home security sorted with their array of Video Doorbells.

Previously we reviewed the Ring Video Doorbell 3 – a wireless solution to front or back door monitoring.

Now Ring have released their beefed up wired solution at a lower price point.

Replacing either an existing wired doorbell or powered with a supplied AC adaptor the Ring Video Doorbell Wired will pair with Ring’s Chime unit (sold separately) so you can hear the doorbell being rung from anywhere inside your home.

In connecting up I did not have pre-existing wiring for a doorbell so used the AC adaptor.

Via the Ring app you can arm the Video Doorbell when you’re not home – or set it in to Home mode where it can alert you of any activity or movement within a customizable sense zone and live view from anywhere (or use the old fashioned peephole if you’re at home).

The wired Video Doorbell features the same functionality as the wireless version and all controls and setup are governed by the app. You can also integrate in to your existing Google Home or Alexa.

Ring have just released a new feature where the smarts of the Doorbell will now only detect human movement, squaring out those false alerts of cats or birds setting the camera off.

There is also a two way intercom where you can remotely speak to whoever maybe at your doorstep.

The video recording is in HD with a super wide (155 degree) view space and the device will begin recording within milliseconds of any human movement using pre-roll at first then within a few seconds switching to HD.

While you can view these you cannot save your recordings unless you opt in to Ring’s 12 month subscription.

The pre-roll is like a pre-record, it’s black and white and grainy and at times actually hard to see what’s going on until the HD kicks in.

Night time for pre-roll is near pointless but the HD 1080p at night is superb via the Ring Video Doorbell’s infrared recording sensors.

The Ring Video Doorbell Wired is not only the cheapest solution to secure the immediate outside of your home it is a must. Even if you’re not one who receives alot of parcels or you’re living in a more secluded area – you’d be surprised, or horrified, at what or who might be hanging around your doorstep when you’re not around.

The clear benefit of going wired over wireless is that you do not need to remove the battery and charge it up – which can take a few hours. The wired model is always on, always connected and always ready to protect.

Small, slim and secure the Ring Video Doorbell Wired is the ideal and totally affordable entrance guard to your home.

Knock, knock no more.

The mystery of who is at the door is solved by Ring with their series of Video Doorbells.

Now having just released the third version, the Ring Video Doorbell 3 is a smart home security device everyone should invest in.

The Video Doorbell 3 does require a fair bit of DIY and you may want to set aside the best part of a day to get this all done.

In the box Ring provide everything you will ever require to get your Video Doorbell up and running – including the screwdriver and even a spirit level.

Two wall mounts are also included, one for flat surfaces and another slanted for corners or similar.

The Ring Video Doorbell 3 is wireless via dual-Band 2.4GHz & 5GHz with a wired in option and will integrate in to your smart home network. The battery, included, is a rechargeable and once fully charged should see you right for well over a month, even two before needing a top up. But this does depend on what features you opt to use on the Video Doorbell 3.

One thing I will advise any future Ring Video Doorbell 3 owners is – fully charge the battery before set up. Even the devices manual states that you should do this. Like most blokes I skimmed the manual and got straight in – then had a frustrating time trying to get the Video Doorbell 3 to connect to my home network.

Turned out it was that the battery was not fully charged. Don’t be me. Charge up before install.

The battery itself is encased inside the Video Doorbell 3 unit and to remove or place in you will need to unscrew a locking screw at the base of the device. Keep that in mind when you choose your placement for mounting.

Ring’s Doorbells have an accompanying app for Android and iOS. It’s this app you’ll also need when to begin – as it takes you through the setup and after all is done and working, you configure your Video Doorbell 3‘s options, from Home, Away and Disarmed.

Any of the modes will alert you that someone is pressing the doorbell, while at the same time recording their actions with it’s FHD 1080p camera.

You’ll get an alert on your smartphone whether you’re home or out and about and can live view your doorstep and surrounding area to see who’s there.

You also have the option of talking through the camera to the person on your porch. And the voice is very clear aswell.

Armed and Home does the same thing, but also notifies you when there’s movement around your front door. This can be turned off and if not active will prolong the life of the battery.

I eventually turned it off myself as the sensor on the Video Doorbell 3 has a very wide depth to it. The unit would pick up my neighbours coming and goings, alot of stray cats and even my neighbour’s neighbours.

But if you are security conscious you may want to leave that setting on. It works exceedingly well, day or night (night via Night Vision).

As for the footage that the weather and rain-proof Video Doorbell 3 records, you have pre-roll a less than SD black and white snippet which you can freely access. You have the already mentioned Live View, so at the moment you get an alert you can log in to your device and see who’s there.

But from out of the box, unfortunately, the footage that the Video Doorbell 3 actually records, whether at the moment the doorbell is rung or via movement, you’ll need to pay.

Ring offer a 12 month subscription called Ring Protect, which is admittedly not too costly, but this was a bit disappointing to see, when you have other manufacturers of smart security cameras giving users up to 30 days of captured footage storage to view and download.

You should get 30 days trial of Ring’s subscription service once you have your new Video Doorbell 3, when the review unit came in to our office the 30 Day trial had already expired.

To compliment your Ring Video Doorbell 3 you may also want to opt for the Ring Chime.

We also received one of these from Ring (thanks Ring) and this small but super loud box will wirelessly connect in to your homes Wi-Fi network and buddy up with your Video Doorbell 3 so that when your doorbell is button is pressed you will ultimately hear it loud and clear inside the house.

Simple but effective.

You can also customize your doorbell tone from a library of built-in chimes.

Asides from the subscription service model that Ring are using currently for recorded footage which affects my overall score by a smidgen , I love the Video Doorbell 3. It makes sense to own one of these, or two if your backdoor is accessible via path or driveway.

It keeps an eye on deliveries, keeps your home safe and really does give you peace of mind.

Now that I have a Ring Video Doorbell 3 I wouldn’t go with out one.

Arlo has recently announced the all-new Arlo Video Doorbell.

Designed to capture what traditional video doorbells can’t, the new smart entry solution boasts an industry-leading vertical field-of-view, allowing users to get a bigger, more precise picture of their front porch.

The Video Doorbell captures footage in a square aspect ratio to allow users to fully view packages on the ground, or visitors from head to toe. It also offers features such as HD resolution image quality along with clear, two-way audio for users to simultaneously see and speak to visitors. Unlike conventional doorbell cameras, the Arlo Video Doorbell delivers direct-to-mobile video calls and personalised alerts when packages, people, vehicles, or animals are detected, allowing for users to quickly reply or take action.

The Arlo Video Doorbell connects to an existing mechanical or digital chime for simple installation and continuous power.

The Arlo Video Doorbell features an extra-wide, 180-degree diagonal field-of-view to ensure important details never go unseen. By delivering footage in a mobile-friendly, 1:1 format, users receive a more complete view of their front door. The Arlo Video Doorbell is also ideal for connecting with visitors in real-time from any location. Traditionally, video doorbells require multiple steps to view and respond once receiving a notification, causing delays where a user could easily miss their visitor.

To solve this problem, the Arlo Video Doorbell sends a live, HD video call right to the user’s smartphone once the doorbell is pressed. This allows users to simply answer the video call for a fast, near real-time response via two-way audio, or to respond with pre-recorded, quick-reply messages.

The Arlo Video Doorbell conveniently connects to an existing wired mechanical or digital chime for continuous power, while reducing latency, faster transmission of videos in near real-time so users won’t miss a moment.

With the purchase of the Arlo Video Doorbell, users will receive a complimentary three-month trial to Arlo’s AI subscription-based service, Arlo Smart, where they will have access to rolling 30-days of cloud recordings to store and view video clips. In addition, users will be able to customise their experience by adjusting notification settings to spot people, vehicles, animals or packages. Controlled entirely through the Arlo app, users can easily view live streams and recordings from their video doorbell cameras, adjust their camera’s settings or access cloud recordings with the available Arlo Smart trial.

The product will be available in major electronic retailers around the country from mid-April 2020.
