Crypto is back… back again in a remaster of a sequel, of a remastered sequel even, and he is spreading the alien love to take out humankind.

After the events of the first game (which I wont spoil incase you’re yet to play it) we have a revitalised, new and improved Crypto v.2 in Destroy All Human’s 2: Reprobed.

Stuck on Earth as his mothership is taken out – Crypto must do all he can to survive against the KGB in a hippie infested love generation 1960’s small town America.

But there is more going on here – the KGB were invited from the Soviet Union to the U.S. by the Whitehouse for a much bigger plan.

From fixing your spacecraft and enacting fiery terror with your deathray through to starting dance parties, chatting to humans while in disguise or harvesting their brains and getting some fierce and robust probing in there you’ll work through the story in this out of this world cheesy B-Grade like SciFi adventure.

As you progress your weapons will too. Weapons are selectable via a quick click wheel and more often than not you’ll need to swap out your weapons on a task by task basis.

Need to possess a human? Sure, why not but first get them dancing so you’re not seen.

Enemy A.I. is actually pretty good if not relentless at times. If you see the heavy artillery stepping in it’s best to jetpack away until things cool down.

Levels are like an episode in a series and they are short – so where possible, take a look around town.

The remastered, or Reprobed, version also comes with a library of outfits for Crypto. Alot are available right from the start and the remainder are unlockables.

Remastered from the original game that released way back in 2006 with fresh visuals, fluid gameplay and the original story Destroy All Human’s 2: Reprobed is as good as the first one, if not better, offering up a more diverse play.

Earth is yours for the taking, second time round.

You are Cryptosporidium 137, or as your known on the mothership, ‘Crypto’ a clone of many versions of yourself.

Wide eyed and ready to kick some human ass in a super cliched 1950’s America, during the time of the U.F.O. craze and hysteria.

You are lead by your leader POX who gives out the missions and orders from the safety of the mothership.

You see, along time ago this very alien race infused their own DNA in to primordial humans which saw the prehistoric man evolve at a rapid rate. But now Crypto’s own kind has a DNA problem and they need to harvest it from Earth’s population.

A 100% pure and uncorrupted strand in each and every person.

Destroy All Humans! has been lovingly and hilariously recreated from the original game that released in 2005 by Black Forest Games.

A fully open world from farmlands to small towns and beach side resorts, this remaster from THQ Nordic not only jetpacks Crypto 15 years in to the gaming future that is the present with Missions and Challenges as new additions.

As you get to grips with Crypto’s psychokinetic powers (including disguising as humans with HoloBob) and some of the most original weaponry in a game, a Zapper, Anal Probe, De-Constructor and more.

Even though you are obviously of a higher intellect than the silly humans – you are totally outnumbered. Earth also has a blundering mysterious agency called the Majestic, who investigate any extra-terrestrial activities on the planet. they tend to shoot and ask questions never.

From a downed U.F.O. (think Roswell in New Mexico, 1947) the Majestic do have some tech of their own that they reverse engineered. But it’s nothing compared to what you have.

Some Levels require you to command your ship – these are hell fun as you can go nuts blowing stuff up (just avoid the military’s missile arsenal).

Your ship has a fiery Death Ray and a Pulse Burst that if you time it right can deflect enemy firepower.

Both you and your ship have shields – both can be regenerated, but remember that you are still a biological being and death means that you’ll need to be re-cloned and start over.

Your weapons, abilities and spaceship can all be upgraded. At the end of each Level you will automatically visit POX’s Lab and depending on how many human brains you have extracted (and any in-game bonuses that you may have completed) are cashed in for tech and psychokinetic power enhancements.

There’s also different outfits for Crypto to be unlocked as you play through.

Tongue in cheek humour, alot of cliches and stereotyping Destroy All Humans! is a game I recommend playing through. And play through more than once, as each Level has a plethora of side objectives and challenges alongside the main Mission.

Destroy All Humans! is a completists dream as the developers have also added in bonus Challenge only Levels, that weren’t in the original.

Destroy All Humans! was a huge hit with me when it first released so when I first heard that it was being remade I was hopeful that it kept to the original. It did and it’s way better than I could have hoped for.

Elves, warlocks, mech’s and every character from Overwatch descended upon Melbourne for the weekend that was the three day Video Gaming and pop culture extravaganza PAX Australia 2019.

Every major gaming platform had a presence.

PlayStation showcasing some up and comings with a heavy influence on the reboot of their MediEvil.

Activision kitted out with a very impressive Call of Duty: Modern Warfare stand while Nintendo’s large footprint in the main hall had a swag on Switch’s ready with their latest and greatest.

Xbox showcased Gears 5 as queues of game playing fans lined up for a hands on the newest chapter of the epic and long running series.

Even THQNordic kitted the main hall out with their soon to be released reboot of Destroy All Humans and a title that I am eagerly awaiting, Biomutant.

Myself and Darren from STG roamed the expansive Melbourne Convention Center aiming for hands-on’s aswell as some exclusive stuff.

Our mates at Riot Games took care of us and in a closed briefing introduced their up and coming card battle game Legends of Runeterra.

A title that places the hottest and fav characters from the League of Legends lore and combines both strategy and old fashioned table top game play in a fierce battle against live opponents and A.I.

Legends of Runeterra has been built to accommodate newcomers to the card battle scene with an easy tutorial and even easier pick up and play.

NVIDIA took us in to a showcase for their ray-tracing work.

The first game to exclusively and fully make use of ray-tracing was CONTROL. NVIDIA applied this real-world-like effect to Minecraft and wow – what a huge difference it makes.

If you’re not too sure what ray-tracing is, it is a lighting and shadow physical and particle effect that is built in for developers of video games to use, making reflections, the said lighting and shadows and even textures becoming almost 4D (4 Dimensional).

Blurring the lines even further between reality and gaming.

Intel could be found in two places at PAX Australia. An entire floor was decked out with screens and NUCs for live friendlies and matches. Closer to the main hall was the Intel dome where their were PC’s on show with some very out of this world cases.

The NUC arena also had a stats board which displayed the combined computing power of all NUCs that were on the floor… this resulted in Teraflops of computing prowess.

PAX Australia 2019 was massively huge. Cosplayers all round and the entire Convention Center filled with stages, gaming rooms, developer talks, diversity gaming and of course merch.

I was personally surprised that the merchandise areas (other than EB Games’s gigantic presence) was bigger. But it was varied enough, from pop culture goodness, through to comics, table top gaming items and more.

PAX AUS 2019 is Australia’s biggest video gaming event and clearly I can see why this statement is absolutely true.

The conclusion of the Expo on Monday the 14th of October 2019 left myself both happily exhausted and eagerly awaiting some private time with titles that were previewed, especially and overall Legends of Runeterra!

“The first casualty of war is always truth”. Or Bessie, the cow. And you KNEW it, didn’t you? They are real, they are evil and they are here to take over our planet. No, not cows, aliens. Yes, that’s right, the invasion of Earth has already begun; the aliens are among us.

Well, one alien to be precise: Crypto-137, Warrior of the Furon Empire, has arrived to save his people by … uhm … extracting DNA from brains. Yours for example. Naturally, one can’t properly subdue inferior life forms without the extensive use of the Zap-O-Matic, the Disintegrator Ray and the notorious Anal Probe Gun. And if that ain’t enough, Crypto can always level everything he sees with his UFO’s heavy loadout.

Destroy All Humans! is in development for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It’s a complete remake of the 2005 cult-classic, using the mighty Unreal Engine 4 to give new and old fans the best-looking invasion of Earth ever and is being developed by THQ Nordic’s internal studio Black Forest Games in Germany and is scheduled to release in 2020, marking the 15th anniversary of the Destroy All Humans! series.
