Crimson Moon has officially been revealed at PlayStation’s State of Play, introducing a new gothic action RPG set to launch in late 2026. Developed by ProbablyMonsters, the game blends fast, Souls-inspired melee combat with a dark High Renaissance setting filled with angels, demons, vampires and ancient gods.

The reveal came with a first gameplay trailer and early story details, confirming releases on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

A Gothic High Renaissance War For Humanity

Crimson Moon is set in Gildenarch, once a grand metropolis, now consumed by a demonic corruption known as Hellgrowth. According to Design Director Scott Brodie in a PlayStation Blog post, players step into the role of a Nephilim, a half-human, half-angel warrior born from a forbidden union and sworn to the Order of the Crimson Moon.

The Nephilim previously helped humanity survive an attempted extermination by the Infernal Legion. Now, with darkness reclaiming Gildenarch district by district, players are called back to purge the city and confront the forces that have returned.

The campaign builds towards a final confrontation with Solomon Moore, a powerful vampire lord described as the architect of the city’s downfall.

Mission-Based Structure Instead Of Open World

Rather than a seamless open world, Crimson Moon uses a mission-based structure. Reports indicate that players will embark on 15 to 45-minute runs into the city, with dynamic maps and shifting enemy compositions ensuring each incursion feels different.

Clearing districts pushes back the Hellgrowth and unlocks new challenges. The structure leans into replayability, encouraging mastery rather than punishing repetition.

Between missions, players return to the Sanctus Clypeus, the Church’s headquarters and central hub. Here, they can upgrade persistent stats, craft gear at the Blacksmith, interact with NPCs, and plan their next assault at the War Table. As the Infernal Legion advances, new quests and escalating threats emerge from this hub.

Souls-Inspired Combat With Celestial Powers

Combat is described as fast, visceral and expressive. Parrying, finishers, angelic arts and full celestial transformations are core to the experience. The gameplay trailer emphasised brutal melee encounters against hordes of undead, demons, vampires and Hellgrowth abominations.

As a Nephilim, players can wield divine abilities that reshape the battlefield, rewarding skill expression and improvisation. The design aims to create high-stakes encounters while avoiding grind-heavy frustration, focusing instead on momentum and combat flow.

Optional Co-Op With Dynamic Scaling

Crimson Moon supports optional co-op, allowing players to tackle missions solo or alongside a friend. Cooperative play introduces ability synergies, revives and dynamic difficulty scaling to ensure enemy composition adapts to group size.

Whether playing alone or in a pair, the goal remains consistent, purge the darkness and reclaim Gildenarch one district at a time.

Platforms And Release Window

Crimson Moon is currently targeting a late 2026 launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. The developers describe the project as being in final development.

With its mix of gothic High Renaissance aesthetics, structured replayable missions and Souls-inspired combat, Crimson Moon is shaping up as one to watch for action RPG fans heading into 2026.
