The world of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra is making a comeback, this time, as a full-fledged 2D fighting game. Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game has officially been announced during the Avatar: The Last Airbender Reunion Panel at New York Comic Con 2025, confirming a Summer 2026 release for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam.
Developed by Gameplay Group International, the studio known for reviving cancelled titles, this project appears to be a continuation of the previously scrapped Avatar fighting game that was in development at Maximum Entertainment. And now, it’s officially back, complete with a stunning hand-drawn 2D art style that stays true to the original animated series.
At launch, Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game will feature 12 playable characters, with confirmed fighters including Aang, Katara, Sokka, Zuko, Azula, Toph, and Korra. These characters represent both eras of the Avatar universe, bringing together heroes and villains from The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra for the first time in one arena.
The game focuses on movement-centric combat through its unique “Flow System,” which emphasises agility and dynamic play. Players will also be able to summon Support Characters, similar to Mortal Kombat 1’s Kameo system, such as Appa, Naga, and June, who can assist in battle with special abilities.

For solo players, the game offers a single-player campaign with an original story, as well as combo trials and a gallery mode for fans to dive deeper into the Avatar universe. Competitive players can look forward to rollback netcode and cross-play support, ensuring smooth online matches across all platforms.
According to the official Steam page, Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game will adopt a seasonal content model, meaning new fighters and updates will roll out over time. It’s a promising sign that the roster will continue to expand beyond its initial 12 characters, giving fans plenty to look forward to.
For those eager to get in early, the game’s Steam page is already live, and yes, you can wishlist it now.
With its blend of nostalgia, striking animation, and fluid combat, Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game could be shaping up to be one of 2026’s most anticipated releases for fighting game fans and Avatar lovers alike.
