Hogwarts Legacy 2 is very far along in production and on track for a launch in 2027 or 2028, according to VGC’s Jordan Middler, who said the sequel’s absence from the summer 2026 showcases was a genuine surprise. Speaking on the VGC podcast, the industry insider said it was a little shocking that the game skipped Sony’s State of Play, Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest and the Xbox Games Showcase 2026, which all passed earlier in June with no reveal trailer or gameplay footage. As of 11 June 2026, Warner Bros. has shown nothing of the game publicly.
What VGC’s Jordan Middler Said
Middler was among those confused by the no-show, telling the VGC podcast that the game is well into production and that the lack of even a reveal trailer across the recent presentations was unexpected. Despite the silence, he said he remains confident Hogwarts Legacy 2 is nearing completion and expects it to launch in either 2027 or 2028. The claim is an insider read on the project’s progress rather than anything confirmed by the publisher.
Missing From Every Summer 2026 Showcase
The sequel was conspicuously absent as State of Play, Summer Game Fest and the Xbox Games Showcase 2026 all came and went earlier in June without a Hogwarts Legacy 2 appearance, leaving many fans who had expected at least some kind of reveal empty-handed. The game has been in development since at least September 2024, when it was officially announced, and several insiders had suggested it would surface during a State of Play, much as the first game was introduced. Other rumours pointed to a Summer Game Fest reveal, but it never materialised there either.
Why Warner Bros. Is Staying Quiet
There is a commercial logic to the patience. The first Hogwarts Legacy sold more than 40 million copies, making the franchise a major earner for Warner Bros. and a strong incentive to bring a sequel out in a timely fashion. With most publishers steering clear of the Grand Theft Auto VI release window, holding back on progress updates and dates makes sense, and Warner Bros. Games and Avalanche Studios apparently are not ready to reveal the game just yet. Earlier speculation has the sequel arriving in 2027, roughly coinciding with the new Harry Potter series from HBO.
Middler floated the Game Awards 2026 in December as a possible stage for a first proper look at Hogwarts Legacy 2, leaving the end-of-year show as the next likely window for a reveal that summer’s biggest events came and went without.
