Sony Interactive Entertainment has now confirmed that the new look PS5 Console (Slim) will be available locally from December 2023, with pre-orders starting now.
The smaller PS5 design has the same power as previous models and comes with 1TB storage for PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition. The new model also provides the option to add an Ultra HD Bluray Disc Drive to PS5 Digital Edition.
The new form factor addresses the evolving needs of players, providing greater choice and flexibility. The same technology features that make PS5 the best to play are packed into a smaller form factor, along with an attachable Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive and a 1TB SSD for more internal storage.
The new PS5 has been reduced in volume by more than 30%, and weight by 18% and 24% compared to the previous models. There are four separate cover panels, with the top portion in a glossy look, while the bottom remains in matte. If you purchase the PS5 Digital Edition, you can add the Ultra HD Bluray Disc Drive for PS5 later, as it will also be sold separately for $169.95 NZD RRP.
There will be a new Vertical Stand compatible with all PS5 models as well as a variety of PS5 Console Cover colours for the new model which will be available starting in early 2024.
These include an all-matte Black colour and the Deep Earth Collection colours in Volcanic Red, Cobalt Blue, and Sterling Silver.
The new Slim PlayStation 5 will release on December 6, 2023.
