A young girl who survives a family tragedy.

A girl who is only just getting to grips with her mutant powers. A girl called Jean Grey.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix takes us back a couple of decades when the X-Men were seen as heroes, a younger Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) heads the school for mutants and has both adoration from the public and U.S. President aswell as a safe haven for mutants.

He takes in Jean Grey as a child and suppresses her memories of the emotional childhood experience and teaches the young Jean to take control of her powers.

As the years go on, Jean who is also known as Phoenix does well, and becomes a valuable member of the X-Men, however, one mission sets to rescue stranded astronauts on the outer sphere of Earth sees Jean’s powers infused with an intergalactic force which unlocks those memories that had been well forgotten and sees Jean taking no sides but her own as she gets to grips with herself.

Her destructive path of self-discovery leads her to a commune heralded by Xaviers old ‘friend’ Magneto (Michael Fassbender).

But as the local law enforcement, Government officials and the X-Men are all trying to reel her in, her powers become darker as does her personality quickly making Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) the most powerful and formidable mutant of them all. Even compassion from long time X-Men friend Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) does not stop her…

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is a necessary chapter to the franchise as it explores one of our most beloved and perhaps lesser known characters backstory.

For many who have followed the films a few questions will be answered from the series, but just as easily, the well-crafted film could also be a standalone in its own right.

Loved it, would definitely see it again. Full recommend to all X-Men fans.

This is X-Men, Wolverine, but not as you as you expect.

Gone is the Mansion, the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters, the mutant hero squads and the spandex.

Set in the near future within Marvel’s X-Men world we see an older, grislier and raw Wolverine or Logan (Hugh Jackman) as his age and skeletal infused adamantium begin to catch up with him.

Logan has long left behind the days of X-Men glory and scrapes a living together as a Limo Driver close to the border of Mexico.

In the past two decades the mutant numbers have dwindled as no more mutants were being born. Those that were mutant from birth or otherwise were hunted down.

Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart) is not immune to the progression of events either, as his health is failing and his powers become uncontrollable with age.

However – there are still mutants out there, one in particular called Laura (Dafne Keen), a child with a surprising ability that is all too familiar to Logan.

Laura has been looked after by a nurse, after the nurse freed her from an experimental program where children with powers were being exploited, tested and enhanced. The nurse and Laura had been on the run for some time and had been tracking down Logan, who she believed is the only one who could help the pre-teen girl.

Logan has many a surprise in store for viewers, none of which I’ll hint at here. There is the cliche British villain (as there always is and correctly pointed out by Deadpool in the Deadpool Movie) and a military faction hot on the heels of Logan, Xavier and another mutant that they had been seeking refuge with; Caliban (Stephen Merchant).

Logan is no holds barred film, it takes stock in not being censored or following the familiar Marvel Super Hero formula. Logan is a complete stand alone and is a story of a man who protects a child at any cost.

For those gamers that have played The Last of Us, you will know what I mean here and you will also notice the similarities in storylines.

For me to say that Logan is a film you need to see – it’s an understatement. Logan is a film that you will watch and then want to see again, immediately after.

It’s everything that Super Hero films are not, and then its something else entirely different.

The X-Men team are back and this time there’s a new baddie in town. This baddie in question is Apocalypse who also happens to be the world’s very first mutant who first arose thousands of years ago.

An explosive opening in ancient Egypt sets the tone for the entire film, leaving me on the edge of my seat and curious to see what would happen next. Flash forward to the present day, our characters find themselves in the year 1983, 10 years after the previous film X-Men: Days of Future Past. Mutants are known to the public but our heroes are all living surprisingly normal lives (at least as normal as they can get for a mutant).

Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters is in full effect and very much channeling the eighties which I enjoyed. To be fairly honest, the eighties had never really been an era of interest to me but after seeing it full swing in X-Men: Apocalypse it made me want to pull out the bright colours and VHS’. A television ad for Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters has been released in honour of the film and is brilliant to watch for any adult twenty and up or someone who has an understanding of the era.

In spite of maintaining a large ensemble cast, most of the mutants and characters tended to be pushed to the side and merely there for dramatic effect and to show off their powers because they looked cool. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing other sides to Magneto (Michael Fassbender) at various moments in the film but did find it a tad difficult to accept his ability to sway sides. James McAvoy and Jennifer Lawrence continued to hold the reins and reprise the roles of Charles Xavier and Mystique with grace and ease. Sophie Turner as Jean Grey may not have initially been well received (based off footage from the trailers) but is now a welcome addition to the cast.

X-Men: Apocalypse is more entertaining than some reviews and online opinions give it credit for.

Will everyone like X-Men: Apocalypse? No. Does someone who enjoys rom-coms necessarily have a liking for Superhero films? No. I do believe it really does depend on your view and liking. If you’re a fan of the X-Men series, certainly go and check out X-Men: Apocalypse; if you usually stay away from action flicks than you’re probably better to spend your money elsewhere.

NOW CLOSED – So, this is Deadpool. He is awesome. Apparently. He would tell you he is awesome, actually he is here and making me say he is awesome… no, super awesome.

And here’s your chance to find out if his game, now remastered for next gen (PS4 and Xbox One) is just as, er, awesome as the man himself. (We apologise for the overuse of ‘Awesome’ it’s out of our control).

Deadpool originally relased on the previous generation of consoles and was a hit amongst gamers. Now, he is back, much the same but more prettier at 60 FPS, oh and with added DLC goodnesses, including two bonus challenge maps: “GRT Plaza” and “Inside the Tower,” and the Uncanny X-Force and D-Pooly suits for looking gooooood in Infinite Mode.

Yup this is THE game to play this year (so Deadpool tells us).

In anycase, here’s how you can win a copy of the game for either PlayStation 4 or Xbox One (and garner Deadpool’s undying admiration and love).

Question: What is the name of the Main enemy that Deadpool must eventually defeat in the game; Deadpool – The Video Game?

A: Blister Fister

B: Mr. Sinister

C: Sir. Cluster
