Huawei has announced the launch of the HUAWEI MateBook D 15 powered by a 11th Gen Intel Core Processor.

Designed with the needs of young consumers in mind, HUAWEI MateBook D 15 is engineered to provide incredible performance across all scenarios, from virtual lectures and productivity on-the-go to multimedia experiences.

Alongside a more powerful processor, HUAWEI MateBook D 15 can also be configured with Intel Iris X^e Graphics to power faster graphics processing performance. Furthermore, innovative technologies such as Super Device, Fingerprint Power button, Dual Antenna Wi-Fi 6 and Reverse Charging combine to enhance the user experience, elevating the notebook from being a productivity tool to a smart companion that users will find indispensable in everyday situations.

The HUAWEI MateBook D 15 can also be connected to a HUAWEI MateView either wirelessly or with a cable. Future updates will provide even more interconnectivity options for users to enjoy new all-scenario experiences.

The AC adapter coming with the HUAWEI MateBook D 15 supports HUAWEI SuperCharge for fast charging of compatible Huawei smartphones. Reverse charging remains active even when the HUAWEI MateBook D 15 is powered down, which can be helpful when users find themselves in need of a quick smartphone battery top-up while on the road.

Innovative Huawei technologies such as Fingerprint Power Button and Recessed Camera are also featured on the HUAWEI MateBook D 15.

Microsoft Surface Studio 2

ln the fall of 2016 Microsoft unveiled the first Surface Studio. It was unlike anything else, and instantly captured people’s imaginations. With the large and vibrant 28-inch 3:2 display, and stylish form, this product turned heads. When Microsoft showed how the Zero Gravity Hinge could transform the display into the ultimate creative canvas, people were stunned. Even today, Surface Studio has the unique ability to draw people in.

As work environments have evolved in recent years, there’s been a strong ongoing demand for this elegant, powerful and versatile product. Students, teachers, professional people and those that want a light thin on-the-go laptop then Microsoft might have the answer.

Their new Surface Laptop Go 2 has a colour range to suit most tastes and is an entry level point to the Surface range.

Varying models are on offer, from 128GB to 256GB SSD and 4GB to 8GB RAM (memory).

Microsoft sent over their 256GB, 8GB RAM model for me to give it a try out.

Interestingly the Surface Laptop Go 2 has a USB-A port. Something not found on its bigger sibling, the Surface Laptop Studio. Combined with that is a single USB-C and 3.5 mm headphone socket.

The charger is the universal Surface magnetic charger.

Under the hood, there’s 8GB RAM on the review device I received and Intels i5 processor. Graphics are rendered with Intel’s Iris X.

The Iris X is designed for low battery consumption and sure, it’s not a sooped up NVIDIA GC – but the Iris X is not to be sniffed at.

It can actually punch above its weight when it comes to 4K video editing, high graphic content creation and to a point, gaming.

High performance games will not run too well on the Surface Laptop Go 2, but this is not down to the GC (graphics card) as such. The 8GB RAM and i5 processor add to the limitations.

That’s not to say you cannot game on it though. The likes of the most recent Tomb Raider ran okay with nothing turned down. Diablo Immortal performed exceedingly well, although the laptop did get a bit warm and the Surface Laptop Go 2 was perfect for Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Editing and producing 4K video was a little slower to render out, but the tiny yet mighty Surface Laptop Go 2 did it without complaint.

The 12.4 inch touch screen is super sharp, but not 4K – it comes in at 1536 x 1024 with a 148 PPI.

If you’re a creative and want something that’s going to do the job without needing to fork out on a ridiculous price tag the Surface Laptop Go 2 will see you right.

This said it’s not going to be much of a player in the likes of eSports or high calibre gaming, and if you’re a fan of spreadsheets, documents and ‘fun’ stuff like that – the Surface Laptop Go 2 is perfect at the right price.

And as for the battery life – 13 hours of normal use, streaming media, light to mid content creation and admin stuff. Anything heavier is going to decrease that timeframe. Playing on Game Pass / Xbox Cloud for example for three hours shaved around 40% from the full charge.

But for most users who would be in the market for a Surface Laptop Go 2 the battery is exceptional and is going to get you through a day real easy without being tied to a cable.

So for reliability, mid-range performance, grab a Surface Laptop and go.

Generational improvements to the thermal system include a 29 percent increase in size, 31 percent more liquid crystal polymer fan blades that are also 40 percent thinner, while spinning 100rpm faster thanks to a dual fan system; an additional copper heat pipe dedicated just for the GPU VRAM as well as a coating of phase-change thermal compound to boost heat sink effectiveness.

Lenovo engineers further implemented a sub-key air intake system in the keyboard, with over 1,172 intake vents, where each key features 1.3mm soft-landing switches for faster, more accurate key strikes. Cumulatively, these design and engineering improvements combine to deliver fan noise of under 30 decibels while in Stealth Mode, which roughly matches the voice of a whisper.

Available on all Lenovo Legion PCs is the on-device application designed to take the complexity out of gaming. Lenovo’s Legion Arena is a gaming platform that consolidates all of a user’s owned PC games into one centralised hub, linking to popular platforms and online stores, all from one location for a seamless and efficient gaming experience.

Lenovo have been in the laptop game for eons, predominantly known for their ThinkPad series, but the Chinese-American tech giant also have a highly respected Legion lineup.

Catering to gamers specifically Legion laptops are one of the best of the breeds currently out there for serious PC gamers and eSports competitors.

Recently Lenovo sent over one of their latest and greatest Legion’s, the 5i.

What I would class to be a middle road serious gaming laptop it packs the grunt while missing some opportunities.

The Legion 5i comes in to the ring with a 16 inch WQXGA (2560×1600) IPS non-touch screen having 500 nits and a generous 165Hz refresh.

Lenovo have kept the bezel slim on either side, top and bottom with the 720p web cam slightly jutting out at the top.

Visuals pop and sizzle powered by a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card.

Graphics wise and when you couple with the 165Hz refresh rate there shouldn’t be anything that you wont be able to play fluidly, without stutter or screen lag given its Dolby Vision feature, HDR 400 and GSync.

To keep you in the game the Legion 5i has 11th Gen i7 cores (x8 @ 4.6GHz with 24MB cache).

The unit that I received in to STG has 16GB RAM and a low 475GB SSD.

Well, both are on the low side when you think of hardcore PC gaming. 32GB RAM would’ve been ideal and given that PC gamers, like me have an extensive games library at just over 400GBs, shared with Windows 11, you’re not going to get a lot of the bigger games installed.

However it appears that the onboard specs are just enough to get it through and during my time with the Lenovo 5i I experienced zero issues.

Games like Forza Horizon 5, Borderlands 3 and Call of Duty: Vanguard played seamlessly.

The Legion 5i stays cool even during long marathons, this is due to Lenovo’s design team having added massive exhausts to both the rear and ventilation grills underneath as well.

What stood out for me on this beast was the battery.

While I would class the 5i as being a desk placement due to it’s weight of almost 3kgs, if you’re inclined to run off battery power, or pick up and take to a mates place or gaming event you should expect up to 7 hours.

Now, this will of course vary.

On standby I was able to get way more than 7 hours, it was around 12.

Usual everyday use saw that 7 hour benchmark right on point dying out at just a little over 7 hours.

Gaming on the other hand varied. Call of Duty drained in less than 3 hours. Borderlands 3 saw 4.5 and Forza was the worst gobbler at just over 2 hours.

Bear in mind that for these tests I didn’t turn anything down or off both spec and graphics wise and hey, they’re still good innings.

Onboard ports are always a deciding factor for me when it comes to getting a gaming laptop.

Usually they always fall short of a USB port, or worse, don’t have one at all.

The Legion 5i has x4 USB 3.0. There’s also the traditional 3.5mm headphone / mic port, x2 Thunderbolt4 (@ 40GBps) which can also be used as display ports, x1 HDMI, ethernet and of course power located at the rear.

The Lenovo Legion 5i looks the part.

The one received in was the Stingray colour – an off-white, almost a metallic pearl, but it’s also with this particular colour that Lenovo went for being matchy over RGB.

The full chiclet keyboard on this model has a blue-white key backlight.

Other variants do have the customizable RGB.

If you’re not fussed whether your keyboard is the colour spectrum of a rainbow and just want to get in to the game, then getting the Stingray should be fine.

And fine it is. While I do feel that certain things could’ve been beefed up a bit more to make the Legion 5i a one stop shop – I can also see that given the pricing tier of this model it does still give you enough bang for your buck.

Coming in at just a bit over $2K the Legion 5i is going to have you gaming alongside the best of them, keeping pace and in some regards (battery) outlasting others.

Acer has updated its popular Swift line of notebooks with new models of the Swift 5 and Swift 3.

To push the limits of what’s possible with a thin and light device, these new laptops come with 12th Gen Intel Core processors, gorgeous touchscreen displays, and all-day battery life: everything a mobile professional needs.
