Shudder, AMC Networks’ premium streaming service for horror, thrillers and the supernatural, released the official trailer and artwork for Slasher: Ripper, the latest installment in the Slasher franchise.

Starring Eric McCormack (Will & Grace), the all-new season debuts with a two-episode premiere on Thursday, April 6, 2023 on Shudder and AMC+ with new episodes rolling out weekly on Thursdays.

Slasher: Ripper takes the franchise back in time to the late 19th century and follows Basil Garvey (McCormack), a charismatic tycoon whose success is only rivaled by his ruthlessness, as he oversees a city on the cusp of a new century, and a social upheaval that will see its streets run red with blood.

There’s a killer stalking the mean streets, but instead of targeting the poor and downtrodden like Jack the Ripper, The Widow is meting out justice against the rich and powerful. The only person standing in the way of this killer is the newly promoted detective, Kenneth Rijkers, whose ironclad belief in justice may wind up being yet another victim of The Widow.

Slasher franchise alumni Paula Brancati, Gabriel Darku, Salvatore Antonio, Lisa Berry and Sabrina Grdevich join McCormack for the all-new installment, with Clare McConnell (Star Trek: Discovery), Thom Allison (Killjoys), Daniel Kash (Aliens) and Sadie Laflamme-Snow (The Way Home) rounding out the cast.

Developed and produced by Shaftesbury and created by Aaron Martin, the 8-episode series is executive produced by Martin, Showrunner Ian Carpenter, Christina Jennings, Scott Garvie, Thomas P. Vitale, and Director Adam MacDonald, with Producers Paige Haight and Erin Berry. Slasher is produced in association with Shudder and Hollywood Suite.

Slashing is a family affair.

Ghostface returns in the sixth instalment of the Scream franchise.

A follow on from the 2022 Scream reboot the story picks up a year or so after Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera) sees her online reputation destroyed, going from hero to villain via social media.

Having left Woodsboro behind Sam and her sister Tara (Jenna Ortega) are living in New York with Sam being the almost overbearing protective older sister.

And while the Scream films are about the character’s inner stories, it’s also about stabby murders and Scream VI does not disappoint.

A cameo appearance by Samara Weaving opens the film’s deathly premise.

There are many throwbacks to the past, including the original 90-s films and yes, Courtney Cox reprises her role as investigative reporter, Gale Weathers.

Like an episode of Scooby Doo you find yourself trying to figure out who the killer or killers are behind the Ghostface mask and while there are a few horror clichés and highly predictable moments in Scream VI even I didn’t assume correctly as to who was behind this new wave of Scream terror.

Sure Scream VI is a teen slasher film, it still has roll-your-eyes humour but was mostly enjoyable for this horror veteran that I am.

If you’ve watched the entire franchise then yes, see this one – but if you’re about to embrace Ghostface into your life, watch the 2022 film first, as there’s a lot of reference to that in Scream VI.

The psycho and the weirdo.

Who is who?

Jamie Lee Curtis reprises her role once again as Laurie Strode. The long suffering victim and survivor of Michael Myers. Her lifetime boogeyman.

Halloween Ends takes classic jump scares and uses subliminal fears in order to get through an otherwise awkward story. with questionable chemistry between the two leading characters.

From an initial accident while babysitting, Corey Cunningham’s (Rohan Campbell) life is changed forever.

Timid, shy and scared he soon connects up with Allyson Nelson (Andi Matichak), Laurie’s grand daughter.

But as Corey’s world begins to darken within the paranoid township of Haddonfield he begins to pull in Allyson who is also unhappy with her existence.

What no one knows is that he is becoming a protege of Myers.

What plays out is twisted and surprising with a conclusion that is the films namesake.

I’ll say no more as to not give any spoilers.

Halloween Ends while a good watch, the storyline tended to be a bit fractured and seemingly patched together, and is a direct continuation from the 2021 film Halloween Kills.

While not the best film in the franchise, if you are a John Carpenter fan, and love the Halloween films (like I do) see Halloween Ends, this Halloween season.

It was time to end the comic series of Slasherman.

Todd Walkley’s (Jesse Williams) cult comic about a murderous psychopath with a penchant for killing girls and then displaying their bodies or parts of their bodies in gruesome ways is a comic of his own creation, loosely based off a real serial killer.

Wanting to do something else after years of Slasherman the comic artist and three of his closest friends, including his girlfriend and assistant hit the road in search of inspiration for the next and final release.

While on the road Todd makes a point of talking and meeting with his fans, with mixed results as some ‘fans’ were close to the victims of the real serial killer.

But this is not the worst that’s going to happen…

One deranged fan takes on the persona of Slasherman and recreates the killings in Todd’s comics. It’s not long before this fan tracks down Todd and his friends – taunting Todd with cryptic messages.

Random Acts of Violence is a slasher film at it’s best.

While it does follow the usual methodology of friends go on a road trip and a killer stalks them, the film has cleverly twisted the tried and true while mixing in animated comic cells.

Random Acts of Violence is streaming exclusively on Shudder and for fans of horror and slashers, a definite watch.

An entertaining, laugh out loud film that does not take itself seriously.

Happy Death Day 2U released appropriately on Valentines Day (February 14th 2019) and is the sequel of its namesake, Happy Death Day.

An odd mix of teen slasher, over the top comedy and the infamous Bill Murray classic, Ground Hog Day (1993).

If you have not seen the first Death Day film (like myself) you do of course get a full recap – which was orchestrated in a pleasing and entertaining Guy Ritchie fashion.

Basically, there’s a killer who wears a Doll mask which also happens to be the local University’s sports team mascot.

One student Tree Gelbman (Jessica Rothe) is finally getting on with her life after the events of the first film where she survived (sort of) after being stalked by the Doll Face killer.

Meanwhile her boyfriend’s roomie is a part of a very small science group where they are working on a device that will hopefully prove the existence of other dimensions.

Predictably there Quantum device opens up a timeline of differing scenarios, where past events come back, but everything is different.

Tree gets wrapped up in the alternating timelines and must repeat each day until events from the past are placed back in to line.

Tree must die, over and over again to reset each timeline and start over.

Thankfully it is not taken seriously – and while Happy Death Day 2U is an eclectic mix of genres it works and is an entertaining watch. I do suggest watching the first film before you take on this one though.

This date gives most people a tinge of satisfying fear of the boogeyman. 40 years ago – it struck terror as the masked Michael Myers silently crept out on to the silver screen and introduced us to new terrors and the now horror cliché of killing babysitters.

In 1978 movie goers flocked to the cinemas to be frightened on Halloween by a film of the same name.

A deranged serial killer wielding a knife and wearing a mask, getting stabby on on the night of the supernatural.

This set in motion the introduction of one of the horror genres most iconic and recognisable figures, the silent but deadly Michael Myers created by horror master John Carpenter.

Halloween (2018) is a direct follow on from the 1978 classic. Four decades have passed and Michael is safely locked up in Smith Grove Sanitarium, a mental asylum.

Two podcasters, Aaron Korey and Dana Haines come in to the Myers’ hometown of Haddonfield to try and interview Michael.

Flanked by Michael’s new doctor Dr. Ranbir Sartain, the two British journalists try and get a rise from the ever silent Myers by showing him his mask. The mask that we all know. The mask that seems to have a life of its own.

After meeting Michael, they track down Michael’s sisters Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis who played the original Laurie Strode in the 1978 film). The sister that survived the family slaughtering on Halloween decades ago. The one that got away.

Knowing that her brother, Michael, is about to be transferred to a different Institution, Laurie, who is now a bad-ass yet reclusive grandmother, has been training for years to kill her brother, knowing that if he escaped, he would come for her.

Halloween (2018) is superbly crafted by Jason Blum (Producer of The Conjuring and Insidious films) and doesn’t lose track from the 1978 original.

There are a few moments in the film that pay homage to the original, yup, there is even a babysitter moment.

But, Halloween (2018) Is more than just a modern day classic / teenager slasher flick, there is real substance to the Myers family story in what is on the face of it, an eye for an eye, revenge plot.

I’ve never tired with the Halloween franchise of films (Michael Myers has always been my fav horror character). While Halloween H20 was ‘okay’ yet a little misaligned and taking advantage of the ‘Millennium’ craze at the time, the series has had a few sequels and even a couple of artistic but fully enjoyable Rob Zombie remakes. Halloween (2018) isn’t just a horror film for the spooky season, it is what fans of the original had been waiting for.

A conclusion, of sorts. An ending that, as you would guess, leaves the floor open for more.

Koei Tecmo has confirmed to us today the upcoming release of Berserk (working title), Omega Force’s most brutal Warriors title to date based on the iconic manga and anime series Berserk. Slated to release this fall for the PlayStation 4, and digitally for the PlayStation Vita and Windows PC via Steam, Koei Tecmo’s interactive entertainment rendition of Berserk will closely follow the events of the most well-known story arcs from the iconic manga’s narrative, focusing on the daring and heroic life of Guts as he cuts his way through a sinister realm of magical and demonic fiends.

Berserk (working title) will fuse the signature ‘one versus thousands’ style action of the long-running Warriors franchise with the grim and gruesome atmosphere of the world of Berserk. As players harness the power of Guts’ Great Sword and utilise the swift and agile swordplay of Griffith to slash and smash through hordes of enemies, players familiar with the Warriors series will be able to feel the difference in gameplay through the way each character handles combat. The game will also incorporate various battle mechanics to better bring the world of Berserk to life, such as Magic and Transformations.

Written by Kentarou Miura, Berserk is a world-renowned series set in a world enveloped in darkness and deception. Its profound story is told through the lives of its fascinating characters, focusing on Guts, a lone mercenary, and Griffith, the leader of a mercenary group known as the ‘Band of the Hawk’. With mind-blowingly detailed drawings, visceral themes of human nature, and gripping storytelling, Berserk has fascinated and influenced many fans worldwide, placing it at the pinnacle of the dark fantasy genre.
