Set to launch in New Zealand, the new OPPO Reno13 Series marks OPPO’s first major release of 2025.

The release of the Reno13 Pro, Reno13 and Reno13 F is expected to redefine the mid-range phone market in New Zealand with their unparalleled specs and design, including their latest AI advancements.

For the first time, OPPO is launching an entire odd-numbered Reno generation in New Zealand, bringing the full lineup to market at once.

The timing marks a strategic shift for the company, as the new Reno series makes its debut in the year’s first quarter, a change driven by 2024’s strong reception of the Find X8 Pro and Reno12 Series.

OPPO New Zealand GM Morgan Halim says the local consumer is looking for a new premium mid-range phone.

“Insights from recent years have shown us New Zealand is ready for OPPO to expand our Reno lineup here. Consumers are looking for more of the cutting-edge AI capabilities and trend-setting design the Reno13 offers, at a more affordable price,” he says.

Known for its stylish design and camera-centric innovation, the Reno Series has always been the go-to for trendsetters who want to capture, create and share every unforgettable moment.

With the latest Reno13 Series, OPPO elevates mobile photography to new heights, introducing a suite of powerful AI-driven features that enhance every shot with stunning clarity and vibrant detail.

Leading the way in visual design, each of the Reno13 Series debuts a subtle yet striking design on the body of the phone, inspired by the wings of a butterfly.

The OPPO Reno13 Series is set to launch on Thursday 27 March, 2025 with full product details to be revealed on release day.

OPPO’s Reno12 Pro is here and it really does put AI photography in the hands of everyone.

Undercutting competitors of similar AI ‘powered’ smartdevices, The OPPO Reno12 Pro not only has killer cameras, you can also tweak and edit your pics like a pro.

Under the hood, the OPPO Reno12 Pro has 512GB storage coupled with 12GB RAM.

More than enough to store your vids and photo’s and enough memory to keep you multitasking and mobile gaming.

A Mediatek Dimensity 7300 processor crunches the data while a near-to bezel-less 6.7 AMOLED screen just pops in crystal clear detail. The phone itself is wafer thin and feather light.

Camera wise you’ve got a main rear at 50MP (wide), which is joined in a triple array with another 50MP (telephoto) and a 8MP (ultrawide).

OPPO didn’t hold back on the selfie camera either, with this coming in at 50MP (wide).

Now for those AI features.

All based on your photography, the artificial intelligence built in to the OPPO Reno12 Pro is next level.

Did you blink as the photo was snapped? Not a worry, the Reno12 Pro’s smarts will sort that, even with a group shot. The AI does very well on this. You can even AI yourself or a friend with a personalised avatar or dress them up.

Removing objects or photo-bombers from a pic is also sorted. Kind of. Like most ‘object removal’ AI’s depending on the background there can be a smudge, or even traces of the object and the Reno12 Pro is no exception to this.

If a shot is taken during rapid movement, the Reno12 Pro can try and adjust this in to a clear HD photo. Results vary though.

There are the usual camera options, from Portrait through to Night (low light photography).

This said, Night mode is actually one of the best I’ve tested so far. It gives a more natural lighting environment to an otherwise pitch black shot, without over saturating colours or brightness.

The OPPO Reno12 Pro is the mobile photography phone to have right now. And to make sure the AI smartphone can keep up with you OPPO have powered the Reno12Pro with a 5,000mAh battery.

While there is reverse charging, you need to cable in. No wireless charging on the OPPO Reno12 Pro.

If this was intentional or an oversight, not too sure, but it seems like a feature nowadays that should be mandatory on any mid to top tier handset.

Despite this, OPPO have built a top-tier smartphone with the Reno12 Pro, but they haven’t priced it at top-tier level.

When compared with similar models from other manufacturers the Reno12 Pro undercuts by well over $1K.

Truly placing AI photography smarts in to a beautifully designed and finished device with a price point reflecting the current cost of living struggles, the OPPO Reno12 Pro is a smartphone that needs to be on your upgrade-to list.

OPPO has recently released two Reno series smartphones – the Reno10 and Reno10 Pro 5G.

Packed with hardware that would make other, more expensive, flagship devices feel embarrassed (looking at you Apple) and the biggest wow factor of the Reno10 Pro 5G being the photography specs.

STG received a Reno10 Pro 5G to give a run through and asides from the usual tech rundown and testing of the hardware, it was the camera that was the ultimate standout.

The Reno10 Pro 5G boasts 256GB storage aligned with 12GB RAM and all of your digital goodness is processed by a Qualcomm SM7325 Snapdragon 778G 5G.

Asides from the processor being of slightly lower spec than the current Snapdragon Gen 2, the Reno10 Pro 5G is near to a top tier device.

As mentioned the camera’s are the biggest (but not only) selling point of OPPO’s latest Reno.

For the front selfie you’ve got a super generous 32MP that can record vids @ 1080p / 30fps.

The rear camera’s housing is very unique to this model and here you’re future proofed for your smart phone snaps.

The split lens bay has a 50MP wide with multi-direction, 32MP telephoto and to round out the triple cameras, a 8MP ultra-wide.

Able to record vids at 4K @ 30fps this is the vloggers dream phone with the multi-view camera mode (film with both front and rear camera’s simultaneously).

OPPO has added a Portrait mode along with a host of usual suspects, including night shooting wizardry.

Portrait turns out professional quality bokeh pics that no other smart phone comes close to being able to achieve. Ideal for taking snaps of your demanding fur babies.

This studio quality snapping mode can churn out some of the most vividly detailed shots I have seen from a smart phone.

The camera on the Reno10 Pro 5G is second to none.

The phone itself is large at a 6.7 inch AMOLED screen with an almost zero bezel.

Running the latest version of Android with OPPO’s own ColorOS overlayed, which comes with very little bloatware and has a light footprint on your internal storage.

For the gamers out there (including me) you’ll get a 120Hz refresh, although I have to admit that the default of 60Hz looked just as crisp.

Given the lower processor I wondered if a few of the console quality titles would stutter. Nope, the likes of Call of Duty, Pascal’s Wager, Diablo Immortal all played smooth.

This makes the Reno10 Pro 5G a cost effective gaming phone.

Battery wise OPPO didn’t hold out.

A very decent 4600mAh powercell that is also able to be quick charged with the supplied 80 watt AC adaptor via SUPERVOOC (yep OPPO have included a mains power brick).

Honestly, the OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G teeters on a flagship device and it most certainly is the top of the Reno series at the time of writing this review.

With its photography prowess it outshines OPPO’s current top device the Find X5 Pro.

OPPO have packed so much goodness in to the Reno10 Pro 5G that it seems underpriced.

Shoot professional video, snap studio quality photos and equipped with the juice to last a couple of days between charges.

At its current RRP – and when compared to what other manufacturers price theirs at (almost double) the OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G is not only in the affordable bracket (even in this current cost of living crisis) it’s also the current top mobile-photography smart phone. Ever.

OPPO today announced the launch of its latest Reno series smartphones — the OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G and the OPPO Reno10 5G.

Inheriting the iconic thin and lightweight design of the Reno series, the two new Reno10 series devices feature a more comfortable grip and premium visual experience with a 3D curved design that measures as little as 7.89mm in thickness and weighs just 185g .

Equipped with SUPERVOOCTM flash charge and OPPO’s exclusive Battery Health Engine and SUPERVOOC S power management chip , the Reno10 Pro and the Reno10 provide faster charging with longer-lasting battery life. Together with a powerful SoC, large storage, an upgraded Ultra-conductive Cooling System, and the latest ColorOS 13.1, the Reno10 Pro and the Reno10 deliver strong and reliable performance alongside an all-round smooth experience guaranteed for up to four years.

The Reno10 Pro and the Reno10 are also equipped with an Ultra-Clear Portrait Camera System consisting of a triple camera combo that includes an industry-first 32MP Telephoto Portrait Camera powered by a Sony IMX709 RGBW sensor. With the 2X optical zoom of the Telephoto Portrait Camera and upgraded Portrait Mode, the Reno10 Pro and the Reno10 are designed to help users shoot natural, ultra-clear portraits in any situation, continuing to live up to the Reno series’ role as The Portrait Expert.

The Reno10 Pro and the Reno10 feature the type of slim and light design that has become a mainstay of the Reno series. The 3D micro-curved body of both models makes them appear visually thinner while providing a more comfortable grip for the user.

Across the new Reno10 series, users can enjoy fresh-new colour finishes that fuse premium visual design with a comfortable physical sensation. The Reno10 Pro is available in Silvery Grey, bringing an understated and calming feeling to the phone, and the Reno10 is available in two eye-catching colour finishes based on the OPPO Glow Design – Ice Blue and Silvery Grey.

On the back cover of both phones, an advanced splicing technique has been used to create a two-tone design around the camera area using glass and metal materials. The top half of this area houses the Main Camera, while the lower half contains the Telephoto Portrait Camera and the 112° Ultra Wide-angle Camera. The Main Camera is decorated with a finely textured material engraved with a laser beam-like texture that manipulates light and shadow in a way that symbolises the powerful camera capabilities that lie beneath.

On the front of the phone, a 120Hz 3D Curved Screen boasting an industry-leading 93% screen to body ratio takes centre place. With its 2.32mm ultra-thin lower bezel and 1.57mm bezels on the left and the right, the practically edge-to-edge screen guarantees a more immersive and boundless visual experience at all times. Meanwhile, the 6.7-inch large display features a 120Hz Ultra High Refresh Rate and support for 1 billion colours, creating a more responsive, detailed, and lifelike visual experience.

Laying the foundation for this is an upgraded Ultra-Clear Portrait Camera System with a new camera combo on the Reno10 series. The Reno10 Pro features a triple rear camera setup consisting of a flagship 50MP IMX890 Main Camera, a 32MP IMX709 Telephoto Portrait Camera, and a 112° 8MP Ultra Wide-angle Camera. On the front of the device is a 32MP Selfie Camera fitted with an additional IMX709 sensor. The Reno10 meanwhile features a large 64MP 1/2-inch sensor on its Main Camera for great image clarity, and also a 32MP IMX709 Telephoto Portrait Camera for enhanced portrait experience. With this camera system on both models, the Reno10 series empowers users to easily capture ultra-clear photos with enhanced details in any kind of situation.

Among these three cameras, the powerful 32MP Telephoto Portrait Camera supports a completely different shooting experience that opens the door to stunning portraits on smartphone. With its 2X optical zoom, the camera can be used to take high-resolution photos at a professional 47mm portrait focal length, capturing natural and undistorted portraits with stunning realism. A BG spin-coating process has also been used on the lens to create an infrared light-absorbing film that reduces veiling glare and boosts image purity. What’s more, the camera’s IMX709 RGBW sensor is capable of gathering more light, enabling users to shoot bright and sharp portrait images even in dark environments.

If the user is taking a picture of a friend in a crowd or against a complex background, the telephoto camera can be used to ‘pull’ the subject out and make them stand out as the clear focus of the image. By framing the shot with this professional portrait focal lengths of the telephoto camera, users can also visually compress the space and enlarge the landscape in the distance, helping to draw attention to both the subject and the background.

For general photo and video shooting, Reno10 Pro’s 50MP Main Camera features a flagship-level Sony IMX890 flagship sensor. This large 1/1.56-inch sensor features 4-in-1, 2.0μm-sized pixels and a large f/1.8 aperture, ensuring greater light intake in different shooting environments. With OIS and All Pixel Omni-Direction PDAF, the camera offers improved stability and corrects minor shakes.

Drawing on this extremely powerful camera set-up, a new Portrait Expert Engine has been introduced to the Reno10 Pro and the Reno10.

This engine optimises the entire portrait shooting process in key areas such as subject recognition and segmentation, skin tone preservation, and image clarity using OPPO’s AI super resolution algorithms and other advanced image processing techniques. With these optimisations, the Portrait Expert Engine helps users to capture truly faithful and flawless portraits with just a few simple clicks in the updated Portrait Mode. With Portrait Mode, users now have access to a new 2X focal length brought by the Telephoto Portrait Camera, alongside the option to change the aperture setting from any value between f1.4 and f16. Through these customisable settings, the amount of bokeh and bokeh flare can be adjusted to create completely unique portrait styles with beautiful depth of field effects, all while ensuring images remain natural and true-to-life.

OPPO has long been ahead of the game when it comes to providing faster and more reliable charging technology, and on the Reno10 series, a number of features have been introduced to further boost battery and charging performance.

With 80W SUPERVOOCTM Flash Charge, the Reno10 Pro can be charged to 100% in around 28 minutes , and for the first time, OPPO’s proprietary power management chip – SUPERVOOC S – has been added to the Reno series. SUPERVOOC S combines six functions, including charging, discharging, decoding, reset, battery protection, and circuit-breaker into one single chip, helping to reduce the amount of space taken by fast charging components within the phone by up to 45% and pushing battery discharge efficiency up to 99.5%. With SUPERVOOC S, Reno10 Pro’s long-lasting 4,600mAh battery can provide about 1.5 days of use when fully charged, giving users even longer battery life with just one charge.

Featuring 67W SUPERVOOCTM Flash Charge, the Reno10 offers rapid charging with the ability to charge the large 5,000mAh battery to 100% in approximately 47 minutes .
With the additional support from OPPO’s exclusive Battery Health Engine, the effective battery lifespan of both the Reno10 Pro and the Reno10 can be extended to as many as 1,600 charge and discharge cycles .

Providing core performance on the Reno10 Pro and the Reno10 are the Snapdragon® 778G platform and MediaTek Dimensity 7050 mobile platform respectively. Both SoCs deliver super-powerful computing performance and a faster experience, all with reduced power consumption. Together with the upgraded Ultra-Conductive Cooling System, users can enjoy heavy-load applications without sacrificing comfort or performance.

On top of this, OPPO’s system-level optimization — the Dynamic Computing Engine — has been implemented on both devices, achieving the most thorough reconstruction of the Android memory management system to date. With the Dynamic Computing Engine, memory access speeds on the Reno10 Pro can be dynamically adjusted to up to 16 times the previous capacity.

In terms of storage, the Reno10 Pro and the Reno10 both come with support for OPPO’s RAM Expansion technology. With this enabled, the phone can temporarily convert unused ROM space into a maximum of 8GB of RAM, enabling users to keep more apps open simultaneously and switch between them more smoothly.

Thanks to all these optimizations, the Reno10 Pro and the Reno10 are capable of providing all-round optimal fluency for up to four years and the Reno10 Pro has received an A rating in the TÜV SÜD 48-Month Fluency Certification.

Bringing all these great features together in a smart and convenient interface is the updated ColorOS 13.1 on the Reno10 series.

Through Multi-Screen Connect, users can connect Reno10 series smartphones to other devices like a PC or a tablet to enable seamless work across multiple devices. New for ColorOS 13.1, the feature has been updated to support smart connection between the Reno10 series and the brand new OPPO Pad 2. With continuous screencast, users can switch from watching a video on YouTube or another app on the phone to watching on the larger screen of the OPPO Pad 2 in just one click. By connecting the two devices, files like images, music, videos, and more can be directly transferred between Reno 10 series devices and OPPO Pad 2 without using any mobile data.

With such seamless connection between multiple devices, working and enjoying entertainment across two screens becomes second nature.

The Smart AOD offers control for apps like Spotify without having to unlock the phone. For people who regularly share chat screenshots with friends or post them on social media, Auto Pixelate can pixelate profile photos and names in the chat screenshot in just one click, helping to conveniently improve the privacy of users and their friends.

As the newest member of the Reno family, the Reno10 series continues to provide an industry-leading portrait shooting experience. Powered by the Ultra-clear Portrait Camera System, including the exceptional 32MP Telephoto Portrait Camera with 2X optical zoom, the Reno10 Pro and the Reno10 are the ideal smartphones for capturing portraits in any situation. Together with upgraded hardware configurations and system-level optimisations, the Reno10 series offers a faster and safer charging experience with a longer lasting battery, up to four years of reliable smoothness, and a smart operating experience built for enhanced efficiency and connectivity.

OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G will be available from the 10th of August 2023. OPPO Reno10 5G will also be available from the 10th of August 2023 in New Zealand and the OPPO Pad 2 will be available from the 5th of July 2023.

OPPO New Zealand has unveiled the latest iteration of its popular Reno Series, launching two new Reno2 Series devices, as well as its first wireless headphones, the OPPO Enco Q1 headset.

The Reno Series is known for combining art and technology, complementing our lifestyle choices and style. The new OPPO Reno2 and OPPO Reno2 Z are no different and come packed with smart new features to unlock users’ creative potential, including a quad-camera set up, new photography and video capabilities, as well as an easy-to-use editing studio.

With a global heritage in audio technology, OPPO has also welcomed a pair of game-changing wireless noise cancelling headphones, the OPPO Enco Q1. The headphones include three types of immersive sound effects, 15-hour noise cancelling playtime and a super polished look and feel.

OPPO Reno2 Z

OPPO New Zealand Managing Director, Kevin Cho, believes the combination of the Reno2 Series and new wireless headphones will be a game-changer for Kiwis looking for a more immersive smartphone experience.

“Today, our smartphones are central to our lives. They are our camera, our video recorder, our music player, our on-the-go gaming console and video streaming device. They are so much more than just a phone. The Reno2 Series keeps pace with the demands of smartphone users today and offer so much more to help our customers unleash their creative potential,” he said.

“Combined with our new wireless headphones, Kiwis are in for a fully immersive smartphone experience, whilst doing so in style. OPPO continues to focus on making premium possible and these new devices do just that. We’re really excited to bring these to market and are looking forward to Kiwis getting hands-on and experiencing everything OPPO has to offer.”

The OPPO Reno2 Z ups the ante with new camera modes which sees a 48MP Ultra-Clear main camera is powered by an extra-large ½” Sony IMX586 sensor, helping make your pictures clear and defined. Aswell as that there is a 8MP Wide Angle Lens, providing a 119° field of view, perfect for capturing expansive landscape shots and a 2MP Mono Lens and a 2MP Portrait Lens, offering new portrait modes with adjustable Bokeh HDR mode for both pictures and, for the first time, video.

The quad-camera set up has also enabled OPPO to develop new camera functionalities introducing an all new Ultra Dark Mode, portrait modes and Bokeh functionality.

Ultra Dark Mode lets users clearly capture clear night scenes, even in cases where the ambient brightness is less than 1 lux. It only takes 2-2.5 seconds to capture an entire dark scene, making it one of the fastest night shooters on the market. OPPO has achieved this through its application of NPU to speed up the AI algorithm of night mode shooting (NPU Accelerator refers to the optimisation of the operation of Neural Network Processing).

For those who love taking portrait shots, the inclusion of a Mono lens and upgrades to the Portrait lens give users up to 7 different portrait modes and an adjustable Bokeh HDR mode. The Bokeh effect also works on the 16MP pop-up selfie camera, for picture-perfect selfies and videos.

OPPO has completely revamped its video capabilities, which include the Ultra Wide Mode on the camera, as well as new innovations with Ultra Steady Mode and a new video editing studio.

Ultra Steady Video Mode leverages Hybrid Image Stabilisation technology (a combination of electronic and optical image stabilisation) to ensure accuracy and improve anti-shake. It also includes a gyro sensor much like those used in action cameras. Together, with a frame rate of up to 60 fps and the ability to capture Ultra Wide Angle shots, video captured on the Reno2 Z is close to the quality level of purpose-built action cameras.

Further enhancing the video experience is the inclusion of OPPO’s unique one-tap video editing and sharing editor, called SOLOOP, letting customers efficiently and professionally edit the visual content they create. It will automatically add music to match with the timing and transitions of your footage so you can create a masterpiece in a minute. It also intelligently identifies the content within the albums for characters and scenes and offers up edit solutions.

OPPO Reno2

To view all your captured content, OPPO has once again placed emphasis into the screen design. The OPPO Reno2 Z features a 6.5 inch AMOLED screen and a screen to body ratio of 91.1%. There’s no notch thanks to the pop-up camera and the screen is durable, thanks to 5th Generation Corning Gorilla Glass. Additionally, the screen includes Hidden Fingerprint Unlock 3.0, giving users a brighter unlock area and faster unlocking speeds.

Powering the device is a large 4,000mAh battery, MTK P90 processor and up to 8GB of RAM, supported by 256 GB of storage. The MTK P90 processor, combined with Game Boost 3.0, further enhances the mobile gaming experience, giving OPPO users a competitive advantage through Touch Boost, Frame Boost and Engine Boost 2.0.

The OPPO Reno2 Z will run the latest version of ColorOS – ColorOS 6.1 – based on Android Pie 9.0 and will come in two unique colours – Luminous Black and Sky White.

“The OPPO Reno2 Z is the perfect device for customers that are after innovative, premium features at a very accessible price point. It’s a device packed with premium features, amazing capabilities, in a beautifully designed body. I believe it has truly made premium possible for all Kiwis,” said Cho.

OPPO Reno2

But, that’s not all.

As different customers have different preferences and different budgets, OPPO has launched the Reno2 Zs sibling – the Reno2, which includes additional innovations for those wanting more from their smartphone.

The Reno2 includes many of the new innovations and ground breaking technologies seen in the Reno2 Z, such as the AMOLED panoramic screen, Quad-style camera set-up, Ultra Dark Mode, Ultra Steady Video, Bokeh effect Video and VOOC Flash Charge 3.0. However, it also includes a shark-fin pop-up camera, a bigger screen-to-body ratio of 93.1% with 6th Generation Corning Gorilla Glass, powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G and comes in Ocean Blue.

Its camera setup also differs slightly, with a 13MP telephoto lens replacing the 2MP Portrait Lens. This not only enables up to 5x Hybrid and 20x Digital Zoom but has also enabled a new camera mode – Ultra Macro Mode – all of which are also available for video shooting.

Ultra Macro Mode lets users get even closer with their photos. Smartphones traditionally only have 10cm of shooting distance. With the Reno2, users can shoot down to 2.5cm from an object, for close range shots that capture details even our eyes can’t see.

OPPO Enco Q1

As mentioned above OPPO have also released a top shelf noise-cancelling headset.

The OPPO Enco Q1’s hybrid active noise cancellation tunes out full noise at a tap, with a digital noise cancellation chip that accurately calculates and combats surrounding noise in real-time. Audio can play continuously for 15 hours with noise canceling on, or 22 hours with noise canceling off, with an in-built USB-C charging port for quick and easy recharge – it takes 10 minutes to charge the new headphones.

Users can enjoy clear and crisp audio across music, games, and video at their preference level, no matter what’s going on around them. While, environmental noise cancellation algorithm delivers consistently clear calls.

Ergonomically-designed for ultimate comfort, earbuds match the shape of the ear and headphones stay secure even when on the move. With a simple and stylish appearance, a lightweight and comfortable body, the OPPO Enco Q1 is a highly flexible headset, delivering a superior experience.

The OPPO Reno2 Z has just released, OPPO Reno2 is available from the 22nd of October 2019 and the OPPO Enco Q1 releases 22nd of October 2019 aswell.

At the forefront of innovation, OPPO have produced smartphones that others have not dared to try.

A smart device with moving parts. We saw this first with the Find X and then in their latest flagship model the OPPO Reno 10x Zoom, with a motorized selfie camera.

For those that are not in need of such wizardry but still want a superior mobile photography experience, OPPO also released their Reno Z, the lesser sibling to the 10x Zoom.

Taking the more traditional route, the Reno Z does not have any motorised components but still retain the photography prowess and technical juice to give a more than satisfactory experience.

The AMOLED 6.4 inch slim bezel screen features the notch that over the past couple of years we have become accustomed to for the front facing camera.

This almost places the Reno Z into the phablet category due to its size.

The front camera comes in at the largest mega-pixel count yet, 32MP.

This blows away anything produced to date from their competitors; Apple, Samsung and Huawei.

The selfies produced are richly detailed – but be aware that you may want to fiddle with the filters a bit, the beauty filter almost seems as though it is set to maximum by default – which can make for a bit of a ‘plastic’ looking result.

The rear camera clocks in at 48MP and 5MP for wide.

Again, faultless in it’s shooting results.

What we don’t see on the Reno Z is tri-cameras. This one is dual lens only.

The inner workings will see 128GB Rom (storage) and 8GB RAM. The 8GB inclusion impressed me. Bearing in mind that this is not meant to be a top shelf handset, yet it has the same amount of memory (if not more) than it’s direct competitors.

Video recording comes in at full HD (1080p) and of course the usual suspects of filters and modes are available for still photography, Slo-Mo, Time Lapse, Night Mode, Google Lens and more.

I really do need to make mention of the Reno Z’s Night Mode. Pulling in light from seemingly nowhere, a shot in a darkened environment will light it up to the point where more detail can be seen than with the naked eye.

Unlike the 10x Zoom the Reno Z does not have a digital zoom, with the handsets optical zoom coming in at x10.

The 8 core MTK P90 processor coupled with the 9XM-HP8 GPU (Graphics processor) is more than enough to play high end mobile games or multitask like a pro.

The dual sim capable Reno Z also brings the juice to keep it alive for a few days even with heavy use.

The 4035 mAh battery will see you up and going for two to three days of slightly higher than normal everyday use. In my time with the handset I managed to squish 3.5 days of my ‘normal use’ which is considered as heavy.

So for someone that uses the Reno Z for photo snapping, social media and a couple of internet browsing here and there I would expect almost a week’s usage before it died completely.

Overlaid on top of android 9.0 is OPPO’s own lightweight operating system, ColorOS6.

Over the years that I have been reviewing OPPO handsets I have seen the ColorOS evolve tremendously. One of my favourite features is most definitely the quick ‘edge’ side bar where you can assign shortcuts for your most used Apps.

OPPO have transformed, from being the more ‘cheaper’ option for their Android based phones they have most definitely come in to a class of their own, now known for making sure each new model they release is incased in a luxurious body.

OPPO provide us smartphone users with all the specs, the bells and whistles and are not afraid to give innovation a go, while being at an affordable price point. The Reno Z is infact half the price than their Reno 10x Zoom.

You get more with OPPO than a few other leading brands’ devices.

The OPPO Reno Z is a device intended for everyone, including users that perhaps are not to taken with moving parts in their smartphone but still need or want that high spec they are used to.

OPPO are at the center of innovation.

Their Android based smartphones were once the cheaper option (and for the mid-range ones like the AX5s they still are), but over the last couple of years OPPO have found and forged their own path in to supreme high end devices.

Introducing the OPPO Reno 10x Zoom.

Built on Android 9.0 with their signature and now updated ColorOS 6 overlaid, the beast of a handset goes full frontal, once again – as they did with the Find X, making the Reno 10x Zoom all 6.6 inch screen and no notch, coming in at an impressive 93.1% body to screen ratio overall.

ColorOS 6 will see you using swipe gestures to navigate throughout your open Apps, browser pages and more. OPPO also have an ‘edge’ like function which was introduced in to the latter part of ColorOS 5.

The 16MP Front Camera is housed inside the body of the phone. When it comes to selfie time – or 3D Face Unlock the extremely quiet internal mechanism will flick the front camera up, in an angled fashion that almost looks as though the Reno 10x Zoom is raising its eyebrow at you.

Purportedly the raising front camera should withstand 200, 000 instances of use. It’s sturdy and when closed sits flush with the top of the phone.

The rear camera is of course where the mobile photography smarts come rolling in.

Being a whopping 48MP + 8MP + 13MP the Reno 10x Zoom offers all of the smarts that we would expect, including A.I. (Artificial Intelligence), a mega suite of filters and effects, aswell as an epic Hybrid 60x Digital Zoom with an advanced stabiliser.

The Reno 10x Zoom is also fitted with a periscope lens at the rear for optimal and fully detailed wide angle photo’s.

While all of this wizardry is more than expected – the Reno’s A.I. controlled low light is super impressive in the way it tries to adjust the image with the builtin Ultra Night Mode. But, there are occasions where it falls short and doesn’t quite do the MP rate and power of the rear cameras any justice.

Under the hood the OPPO Reno 10x Zoom has 8GB RAM coupled with 256GB storage. I am very pleased to say that OPPO retained the microSD option aswell, the dual sim bay sees the secondary sim share with a expansion bay.

The Reno 10x Zoom has a Snapdragon 855 processor to crunch the data, this is also optimised for the ever-lasting 4065 mAh battery.

Using the Reno 10x Zoom as an every day handset for the past week and a half – I let the battery run down to empty. This took around 3 days.

I am not a light user by any means. Running this website, replying to emails, messages and calls on a daily basis… no, hourly basis, aswell as aiming to push the phones’ specs to it’s limits by way of gaming, this is one hell of an energy consumption achievement on OPPO’s part.

Charging the Reno 10x Zoom from dead to full utilizing the builtin ‘VOOC 3.0’ honestly took around 30 – 40 minutes. No time at all when you think about how much juice you can get from the handset when fully charged.

OPPO have built the Reno 10x Zoom for gamers.

Featuring an Adreno 640 GPU and a dedicated App based function called Game Space – you can provision power where you need it most for optimal gaming, block in-game banners / advertising and add your favourite or most played games in to the Game Space App.

As mobile gaming and games become ever more resource hungry this was a handy function to have.

Needless to say no matter what I played, Fortnite, PUBG, ARK all were lag free and making use of the settings in the Game Space along with the triple internal cooling system of the device also ensured that my battery didn’t totally drain away. If you are a mobile gamer – or a mobile eSports enthusiast, OPPO designed the Reno 10x Zoom for you.

OPPO also take their device security seriously.

The 3D facial recognition is instant, the fingerprint senor is under the glass (and has a very nice animation to it aswell) and does not require a firm press as some other flagship (and more expensive) handsets do. The proximity sensor and gyro know when you are near the phone and the fingerprint sensor will come on to the screen.

While OPPO have totally outdone themselves with the Reno 10x Zoom there are a couple of things that they missed out.

There is no wireless charging and also no reverse charging. This is a shame and I do wonder why, if anything, wireless charging was not included.

Still, being that the cost of the Reno 10x Zoom is under half of the lesser spec’d high end handsets out there, its not fair to gripe too much about that.

OPPO Reno 10x Zoom

The OPPO Reno 10x Zoom is one of my personal favourites so far this year. Coming in with a metallic finish of Ocean Green or Jet Black, OPPO also provide you with a rather high quality case in the box. But, the fiber carbon case’s edges make it difficult for the swipe to close / go back function of the ColorOS 6.

Likely you may want to use the device without the supplied case.

Overall The OPPO Reno 10x Zoom is more than what you pay for. Retaining the exquisite build and looks from last year’s Find X flagship, the Reno has almost everything it’s competitor models do at a fraction of the price point.

From the flat and flush rear camera lenses to the small ball aesthetic which protects those said lenses when the phone is laid on it’s back – right through to the power of the processor, the super long life battery and a bevvy of mobile photography smarts, the Reno 10x Zoom is where it’s at and raises the smartphone bar even higher.

OPPO do it right, all over again.

OPPO New Zealand today unveiled the launch of its new premium smartphone series – the OPPO Reno Series – and has introduced two new devices, the OPPO Reno 10x Zoom and the OPPO Reno Z.

This series unleashes the full creative potential of users, bringing a unique, immersive smartphone experience that is accessible to consumers across all price points.

Commenting on the OPPO Reno Series launch, OPPO NZ Managing Director Kevin Cho said: “We’re excited to be bringing the Reno Series to New Zealand, which we believe will bring real value to our customers and make the latest smartphone innovations accessible to all. Not only does the new range promise cutting-edge technology and exceptional photography, but also provides a truly immersive experience and one we believe Kiwis will love.”

The OPPO Reno 10x Zoom, which is available to purchase from 28th June, is the result of extensive research and development and embodies OPPO’s vision to push the boundaries of what is possible in a smartphone.

OPPO Reno 10x Zoom

With the 10x Hybrid Zoom creativity is no longer limited by distance. The combination of three lenses provides a full focal length of 16-160mm in tandem. This is made possible through 48MP ultra-clear main camera lens, a 13MP periscope telephoto lens and an 8MP wide-angle lens.

To ensure the quality of long-distance zoom photography, the Reno 10x Zoom also utilises a dual OIS design in its primary and telephoto lenses to mitigate device vibration.

The tri-lens adapts to all kinds of photography scenarios including wide-angle, portrait, 10x hybrid zoom and even 4K video filming. With these developments, everyone can be a professional photographer, capturing New Zealand from completely new perspectives.

The Reno Series introduces OPPO’s new pop-up front-facing camera, which uses a pivot-rising structure, and takes just 0.8 seconds to rise. This enables the Reno to feature a completely uninterrupted display, with a huge 93.1 percent screen to body ratio – letting you stream, play and view content in perfect clarity.

It has also been tested rigorously and can withstand over 200,000 uses – or roughly five years of usage, if used 100 times a day.

OPPO Reno Z

The OPPO Reno 10x Zoom is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, which effortlessly satisfies users need for speed. With up to 8GM RAM and 256 GB internal storage, users can stream, game and chat with smooth and efficient results. It not only integrates a 4th generation AI engine but also demonstrates a giant leap in processing power – increasing performance by 45 per cent.

The OPPO Reno Series has also optimized performance factors specifically for gaming, such as latency, touch control and refresh rate. The result is a visibly faster response time for players.

In addition to the Reno 10x Zoom, OPPO has introduced the Reno Z, which provides just as many impressive features for price-savvy consumers. Features include 48 MP + 5MP dual rear camera and Ultra Night Mode 2.0, creating photos with details that exceed that of the human eye. This device also has outstanding memory, powerful processor, hidden fingerprint sensor and ultra-fast charging technology VOOC 3.0.

“Whilst the OPPO Reno 10x Zoom offers our customers the latest photography capabilities from OPPO, the OPPO Reno Z provides our customers unprecedented value. We feel both devices will be a big hit with Kiwis, and are excited for them to enjoy the unique smartphone experience each device provides,” said Cho.
