The ‘Porsche Legends Pack’ will come with: nine legendary cars hand-picked from the storied history of Porsche: one FIA-certified track intimately associated with Porsche, a first in any simulated racing game: 20 liveries, nine community events, and five new career events, all carefully crafted to integrate into the Porsche experience.

The nine iconic Porsche cars include their current GT-runner, the 2017 Porsche 911 RSR that will add this elite brand into Project CARS 2’s already essential line-up of GT racers.

The 911 RSR will join eight more historically significant Porsches hand-picked from the last 70 years, such as the 1972 Porsche 917 / 10―the car dubbed the “Can-Am Killer”―an analogue monster whose 5-litre flat-12 boxer was mated to two massive big-box turbos to create what many consider the most brutal car (1,200bhp!) in sportscar history.

Ahead of the ‘Porsche Legends Pack’, Slightly Mad Studios has released a new Update 4 for Project CARS 2 for PC (Steam), which will be available imminently for the Xbox One, and PS4.

Update 4 includes numerous performance and stability improvements, gameplay balance tweaking, UI and render enhancements, and extensive AI improvements across many locations and vehicle classes.

There is quite a spectrum of racing games out there, that vary from the silly arcade style kart racers to the strict accurate sims. Project Cars hits the ground, pushing the extreme strict end to further than any other major racing games had, giving an immense amount of depth for those looking for it. Now amongst a lot of racing games releases, Project Cars 2 has launched to do the same as its predecessor.

For anyone who hasn’t dabbled with the first Project Cars game, it takes the concept of a racing sim, and runs with it, to an extreme degree. You can dig deep into this game and get lost if you know as little about how cars work as I do. This can be overwhelming but fortunately it’s totally optional. The game is most suited to someone who wants to dig into this, but for anyone how doesn’t want to, you can get the game to automatically decide its specs based on how you want it to race.

Outside of this is the true brutality that a racing sim can bring. When you enter a contract based around a race type, you must complete the contract before you move on, so a badly chosen contract will have you ride it out. This is a great element of the game, it makes you think about what you want to make your way through, and it forces you to get good at different race types throughout your race career.

This wouldn’t seem so outrageous but the game takes sim to the next level, and this is included in the novel race types, such as Go Karts. I initially thought I’d start there as it would be a fun way to start the game, which was my first mistake. The nature of a Go Kart going at full speed is if you catch the edge of the grass you can spin out in seconds. This is how the game works and it’s better for it, as it makes a challenging game for many of us that forces you to get good.

The biggest adjustment is how a car reacts due to the wheels. This is the case in the obvious, catching the edge of a corner and you spinning out, but it also manifests in a frustratingly brilliant way as you accelerate. In most racing games, you hold the accelerate trigger and take off, in Project Cars 2 this can be a mistake as your car spins out. This is most notable after you slide out and must start again, holding accelerate while trying to turn can result in a wasted amount of time spinning your car out.

Customisation doesn’t appear in the form of the car modifications either. This extends to the races, race types, and better, the weather.

This covers simple things like rain and sun through to snow, which is a wonderful feature as you jam tracks such as Nordschleife with snow or a blizzard. This customisation and freedom to play is at its core and what makes this game so great.

This manifests at its best online where non-creative minds get to enjoy the minds of those who are.

The online races basically consist of timed races where you need to put up the best lap time, or laps. This is stock standard but thanks to other players getting into the customisation in races, it’s highly variable. If losing in front of other players doesn’t tickle your fancy, then you can create offline custom races, which is where I spent most of my time. Choosing your track, weather along with other variables then going to town on it is entertaining and immensely satisfying.

Project Cars 2 is a racing sim unlike others. It is difficult to get your head around if you are familiar with the more casual racers, but it worth enduring the learning phases to get into the game as it becomes rewarding to succeed. Its steep learning curve won’t be for everyone but it is enjoyable none the less.

The popular career mode from the chart-topping Project CARS returns for Project CARS 2 with fan-desired improvements, careful refinements, and all-new features to faithfully echo the motorsport careers of real-world drivers like no other racing game.

The refinements and new additions to the solo career in Project CARS 2 have been made to both enhance the experience of the ultimate driver journey, and to empower drivers with far more freedom of progression and expression.

Project CARS 2’s single-player career mode now spreads 29 motorsport types out over 6 Tiers and 5 unique disciplines to create a deeply engaging, challenging, and satisfying solo experience. Drivers can choose to race their way up through grassroots motorsports such as Karts, Formula Rookie, or Ginetta Juniors all the way to the very top echelons of real-world-based motorsport series such as IndyCar, and the GT3-based Pirelli World Challenge, or they can simply jump straight into more advanced Tiers to enjoy shorter, race-action-packed careers.

The ultimate driver journey is to enter the pantheon of motorsport legends. How drivers win one or all 7 Lifetime Goals that will define their legacies is up to them: Dominate the same championship year-on-year, win three blue riband events on the motorsport calendar such as the Indy 500 and Le Mans 24 Hours, become a factory driver for elite brands such as Ferrari and Porsche, or seal immortality with wins in three different motorsport disciplines—the challenges to entering Project CARS 2’s Hall of Fame have never been greater, or more appealing.

The core of the driver’s career in Project CARS 2 is the Tier system that has been carefully fashioned to model that encountered by real-world drivers. Drivers can choose to follow one motorsport discipline all the way from Tier 6 to Tier 1 (GT cars, for instance), or jump between the 5 disciplines and race in open-wheels, GT, prototypes, rallycross, and touring cars, ensuring a depth of motorsport like no other racing game.

The Tier system has been subjected to a careful overhaul in order to empower drivers to sample a far greater selection of the 180-plus cars and 40 tracks on offer in their main career stream: This now includes “modern classic” revival-style race series which includes Group 5 GTs, Group A touring cars, and Group C prototypes, closely echoing real-world historic events that feature upcoming stars and grizzled veterans racing sublime historic cars on modern circuits.

Each Motorsport Series in Project CARS 2 will also present drivers with a new option to either run a full or shortened calendar. Additionally, drivers can also scale the duration of each race, and also enable or disable practice and qualifying sessions at the start of each and every weekend.

The popular contract-offer system from Project CARS is also set to return, but has now been refined to ensure drivers have far more choices with which team they sign up for as they advance through their careers: drivers now choose the car they want to drive in a specific series, and they will be presented with the teams that have open seats in their desired car and series.

Also new to Project CARS 2 is the Manufacturer Drives that sees 14 of the world’s most iconic auto manufacturers; Ferrari, Porsche, Aston Martin, and more. Invite drivers to take a series of epic challenger events: rise to the challenge and become a fully-fledged Factory Driver. The events themselves are themed to represent classes that each manufacturer is known for, such as Nissan and its Historic Touring event, Group C prototype event, and modern GT3.

The popular Invitational Events, where drivers’ achievements throughout their careers unlock events that can be entered away from the normal career flow, is also back, but much improved: These voluntary events can now be entered at any time, and drivers can play them as often as they want. These have been created to represent the variety of motorsport categories and car classes that drivers wouldn’t typically race in their core career.

Drivers will also be racing for trophies, Lifetime Goals, and Accolades as they progress through their career, and will enjoy new and exciting ways to track their stats and achievements, both online and off.

The career mode in Project CARS 2 has been created to be the most accurate representation of a real-world driver’s career path, while tailored to meet Project CARS 2 drivers’ individual needs and desires.

Project CARS 2, with over half-a-dozen racing drivers serving as technical consultants, and with Tommy’s Corvette as one of the game’s 180-plus cars, will release on PlayStation 4, XBOX One, and PC, on the 22nd of September 2017.

The first official day of E3 saw us spend the majority of our time at the main Expo Hall, situated at the Los Angeles Convention Centre, where most of the hands-on sessions, meetings and interviews with video game developers and publishers were being held.

We had the opportunity to get a one on one look as well as some hands-on time with upcoming games such as Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, Strange Brigade, Rogue Trooper: Redux, Project Cars 2, Dragonball Z Fighter and Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom.

Our Uncharted: The Lost Legacy session was more of a guided hands-on or more of a private showing of the initial chapter of the game. We met the game’s writer, Josh Scherr, who walked us through the game and provided us with some little insights into the history of the title.

Uncharted – The Lost Legacy

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy follows Chloe Frazer, the secondary character in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and Nadine Ross, as they travel through the south-west of India.

With such a setting, the game’s story stems from Hinduism and the old Indian culture, many aspects of which are still prevalent today. In order to ensure content was as accurate as possible and respectable to the culture and religion, Naughty Dog consulted with a religious expert at a University.

The graphics are certainly the standout aspect of the game, with crisp visuals and an entirely realistic character design. From what we were shown, the game appears to handle really well and is smooth, much like many of the other Uncharted games.

One of the best aspects of the game is currently the way in which Chloe is portrayed. Her character does handle action superbly, is able to hold her own as well as Nathan Drake could, and it’s nice to see a strong, female character take the lead. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is scheduled to release August the 22nd this year.

Strange Brigade – Rebellion Games

Our next hands on experience was with UK studio, Rebellion Games, who are known for the Sniper Elite games. The studio’s presence at E3 was to show off two very fun and addictive, yet very different titles, Strange Brigade, a third person, co-op multiplayer, adventure-shooter, and Rogue Trooper: Redux, a remastered version of the old school Rogue Trooper game, which is based off the 2000 AD comics of the same name.

Strange Brigade was very much like an Indiana Jones game with hordes of zombie enemies, which are made up mostly of Egyptian mummies. The 1940’s style narration is refreshing and adds character as well as unique personality to the game. The gameplay feels similar to the Zombie Mode in the Call of Duty Black Ops series, with waves of enemies attacking at every turn. With four characters to select from, there is variety in gameplay as each character possesses their own unique abilities and base load outs. The game plays well and appears to be one that could provide hours of endless fun, however the controls do take some getting used to if playing for the first time. Regardless, fans of shooters and adventure games will definitely enjoy Strange Brigade, which currently does not have a release date set.

Rogue Trooper: Redux

The second game, Rogue Trooper: Redux, was a rather interesting one. A remaster of the original 2006 single-player, third person shooter, the game follows the genetically engineered super soldier, Rogue, and his sentinel helmet, backpack and rifle. As one of the last of his squadron to remain alive, Rogue battles enemies with the help of his talking equipment. The concept is certainly intriguing and one which fans of the original game will enjoy. Rogue Trooper: Redux will be available across multiple platforms, including the Switch, Xbox One, PS4 and PC, to allow for a broad range of gamers to enjoy the game.

After three very solid games, we were thrilled to have gotten a chance to take a look at the upcoming Bandai Namco titles, Project Cars 2, Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom and Dragonball Z Fighter.

Project Cars 2

Project Cars 2, the second iteration of the popular racing title, is set to release on 22 September. Project Cars boasts the largest track roster of any console racing game and was one of the first to include dynamic weather. Project Cars 2 includes cars from every iconic brand, which can be played right from the get go, without the need to grind for cash or to unlock cars. It also now includes seasonal changes as well as improved localised weather.

The overall highlight of Project Cars 2 is its focus on providing absolute realism, with extremely realistic tracks, multi-class racing, which allows both fast and slower cars to race at the same time, having a real driver’s career and providing an experience across the full spectrum of car racing.

Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom

Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom is an interesting title. Based on the similar art style of Studio Ghibli animation, the game tells the tale of a young King who doesn’t quite know how to be a leader. With a coup on the horizon, the King must work together with those around him to gain experience to crush the coup and lead his people. The major difference in this game compared to the previous iteration is that it now includes a new kingdom mode and includes real time combat as opposed to the traditional turn based style.

Dragonball Z Fighter was the big surprise of the year from Bandai Namco, and one that’s been extremely well received. The game illustrates the perfect fusion between the Dragoball universe and Arc System Works and proof of this is in the graphical quality of the game, with the extreme animation used. The game looks great and runs like a charm at 1080p and at a constant 60fps. One of the great aspects of this new fighting game, which includes 3 v 3 gameplay, is that each character is unique and has their own move and skills set.

With most of the titles we experienced releasing in 2017 and 2018 we are not only intrigued to see their development up until their respective release dates but also looking forward to playing them on our PlayStation 4’s, Xbox Ones and PC!

Creative Technology Ltd today announced to us here at StG it would be deploying its ultimate weapon of mass entertainment – X-Fi Sonic Carrier – into the gaming arena at E3 2017. E3 is the world’s premier event for computer, video and mobile games and related products, and is held at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

The Sonic Carrier, a powerful home entertainment system with Dolby Atmos, Creative SuperWide X-Fi, 17 drivers in a 15.2 configuration, and 2000W peak power (1000W RMS), is set to blow gamers away with the ultimate immersive cinematic sound. Besides being showcased at the Creative E3 booth, the Sonic Carrier will be used by major game developers BANDAI NAMCO, SEGA Europe, ATLUS / SEGA and Deep Silver to show-off their very latest immersive gaming content at their E3 booths.

“Gamers will enjoy a cinematic experience with incredible realism as more and more games adopt Dolby Atmos. Not only that, this immersive three-dimensional soundstage gives gamers a new competitive edge as each sound comes to life and moves around, and now also above. For games without Dolby Atmos, gamers can also enjoy a similar magical experience using Sonic Carrier’s 15.2 SuperWide X-Fi technology that delivers a breathtakingly wide 3D soundstage that goes beyond imagination,” said Sim Wong Hoo, CEO of Creative Technology, and creator of the Sonic Carrier.

“And with its 600W RMS subwoofer, gamers will experience not just powerful audio, but literally feel chest-pounding bass, earth-shattering explosions and bone-crunching punches in games. This is the ultimate audio for the ultimate gaming arena that the world has never experienced before. We’re glad to have the opportunity to team up with some of the best game publishing names in the business to set a new benchmark for the ultimate gaming experience,” added Sim Wong Hoo.

“Quality sound reproduction plays a huge role in immersing players in our games and Ace Combat 7: SKIES UNKNOWN is ready to rock players’ minds through the X-Fi Sonic Carrier system. The 15.2 up-sampling sound technology adds a level of depth and realism to Ace Combat 7: SKIES UNKNOWN’s gameplay that will place players square in the cockpit of advanced fighter aircrafts to experience heated air-to-air combat like never before,” said David Bonacci, brand manager at BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment America Inc.

“Project CARS 2 is striving to deliver the pinnacle of authenticity in the realm of driving simulation games and part of that authenticity is delivered through great sound. The X-Fi Sonic Carrier system is able to make the cars in Project CARS 2 come alive, giving voice to each and every sports car, race car, and hypercar in the game. Hairs will rise and palms will sweat when players experience the visual and aural mastery within Project CARS 2 through the Sonic Carrier system,” said Raymond So, brand manager at BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment America Inc.

Powered by eight processors, the Sonic Carrier is not only capable of high resolution audio playback, it also features an Ultra HD video engine that supports 4K 60fps video playback of local and online content.

Featuring three distinct wireless technologies, the Sonic Carrier offers two separate Wi-Fi solutions for audio and video streaming, Bluetooth, and a zero latency wireless speaker-to-speaker link to up to four subwoofers.

Imagine a world where games and movies come alive with the most immersive 3D audio experience with the latest Dolby Atmos technology used in premium cinemas, now brought straight to the user’s home – only better. Movies and games will never be same again with cinematic audio that not only flows around users, but also above them.

In the other world, music listening is transformed into a magical auditory experience. This is the 15.2 world of super wide extreme fidelity, called SuperWide X-Fi. In this realm, every audio stream regardless of quality is algorithmically metamorphosized to an eXtreme Fidelity level of 24-bit hi-res audio and expanded three dimensionally into a 15.2 super wide soundstage.

One would expect all these wizardries to come from a convoluted array of expensive systems. Instead, it is a beautiful sleek one piece system, sans messy cables. Together with an exquisite wireless subwoofer akin to designer furniture, the Sonic Carrier is truly a masterpiece of art.

SuperWide X-Fi Stereo is a radical new audio technology that elevates the auditory journey to a totally different dimension. When SuperWide X-Fi touches any common stereo source it transports the listener to a magical three dimensional audio utopia that transcends a traditional left-right stereo experience. Gaming audio can be scaled up to this ultimate SuperWide X-Fi experience. This is the Audio of Tomorrow… the next leap in the evolution of audio perception.

Slightly Mad Studios and Bandai Namco Entertainment announced to us here at StG that Project CARS 2 is slated for a worldwide release on the 22nd September 2017.

The most anticipated racing game of the year will also be playable at the Bandai Namco Entertainment Booth at E3 with the first public demo featuring multi-class action showcasing the newly optimized handling as well as revamped gamepad controls, this on the heels of the E3 trailer (above) that presents the game’s “sandbox” approach to the overhauled career mode.

Passion for motorsport is embodied in the fan-requested multi-class racing that allows drivers to compete in a field of multiple car classes which replicates the world’s most famous endurance racing championships, past and present. Whether its iconic cars from the golden age of sportscars, modern prototypes, or GT3, all classes of car can now race together in either single or championship mode as Project CARS 2 scores the driver’s position not just overall, but also in-class.

Capturing all the thrills of motorsport means drivers competing in any car, anytime, anywhere, off- and-online, against both in-class competitors and other classes too.

Feel the adrenaline rush as you close-in fast on a GT race car in the coldness of night at Le Mans in your Le Mans Prototype; scan your mirrors on a wet day at the Nürburgring as a Porsche 911 GT3 R monster bursts from the fog and cuts past your Renault Clio as if you were standing still. This is motorsport in Project CARS 2.

Showcasing the open structure of the Project CARS franchise, the E3 Sizzle trailer presents the game’s “sandbox” approach to its career mode that allows drivers an open path to achieving their motorsport dreams. Drivers can begin their motorsport career in grassroots series such as karts and race their way to the very top echelons where many of the world’s most prestigious brands and cars await; or they can choose to begin in any motorsport discipline; or even go straight into one particular type of motorsport, and spend one or multiple seasons in that championship. With 9 motorsport disciplines to choose from, a racing career has never been more rewarding or challenging.

Project CARS 2 delivers an unparalleled racing experience for players of all skill levels. Bleeding-edge visuals, precise car physics, revamped confidence-inspiring gamepad controls combined with advanced and newly refined tire grip and slip physics that provide drivers with optimized control and feel in all situations, and enhanced, realistic A.I. make Project CARS 2 the most immersive and technically-advanced racing simulation on the planet.
