Acer has expanded its Predator gaming monitor line for hardcore gamers with four premium models designed to make gaming more immersive than ever with wide curved screens, spectacular picture quality, and smooth performance.

The new monitors include a pair of 2304-zone MiniLED models, with the flagship Predator Z57, the largest of the group with a 57-inch DUHD (7680×2160) at 120 Hz display, and the Predator X34 V3 with a 34-inch panel, an immensely popular size for PC gamers.

In addition, the powerful 39-inch Predator X39 and the 34-inch Predator X34 X with bright OLED displays offer smooth and captivating visual experiences with up to a 240 Hz refresh rate and blazing-fast 0.01 ms pixel response time.

Predator Z57

The massive 57-inch Predator Z57 with a DUHD (7680×2160) resolution at 120 Hz is a gaming goliath for conquering the fiercest battles. Leveraging the 2304-zone MiniLED technology, it provides superb picture quality and brightness when showing dark scenes and black backgrounds.

The wide 32:9 aspect ratio and 1000R curvature draw users closer to the gaming environment and increases their field of vision when playing or working. In addition, top-of-theline VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certification ensures that it achieves up to 1000 nit brightness, produces highly accurate colours, and maximises light and dark contrast to illuminate fine details, a total difference maker during intense gaming sessions. Combined with a wide DCI-P3 98% colour gamut, the Predator Z57 creates visuals so realistic, it will thrill even the most experienced players.

The ultra-wide viewing area is ideal for multi-tasking along with productivity-enhancing features, which include picture-by-picture that splits the screen in half to showcase output from two different sources simultaneously, and picture-in-picture that divides the screen with displays on the main screen and another in an inset window. Two HDMI 2.1 ports support the latest consoles (PlayStation 5 and XBOX Series X), while a DisplayPort 1.4 port also provides fast and reliable connectivity.

The Predator Z57 is also VESA compliant for hanging on a wall to save desk space and its base is elegantly sleek, yet robust and offers adjustable height, tilt, and swivel to suit individual preferences. This model also has two powerful 10W speakers to amplify sound effects.

Predator X34 V3

The Predator X34 V3 has a 34-inch curved MiniLED display with a 21:9 ultrawide QHD (3440×1440) resolution to support avid gamers with smooth performance and a broad view of the action for a competitive advantage. The 1500R curvature deepens immersion and improves peripheral vision, while the high DCI-P3 94% colour gamut and VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certification showcase titles in vibrant colour and luminosity.

A fast 180 Hz refresh rate and 1ms (G-to-G) response time support fluid, uninterrupted gameplay with minimal ghosting.

Excellent connectivity via two HDMI 2.0 ports and DisplayPort 1.4 lets players connect to the gamut of sources available today. The Predator X34 V3 can also be hung on a wall and has an adjustable height, tilt, and swivel to optimise viewing comfort. In addition, two 5W speakers provide quality audio for games, music, and movies, and a wall mount is provided, making it ideal for console gamers.

OLED Models: Predator X39 & Predator X34 X

Acer’s newest OLED models include the 39-inch Predator X39 and the 34-inch Predator X34 X, enabling high contrast for incredibly detailed images and ultra-fast refresh rates and response times for the smoothest possible performance.

They also support accurate views, even at tight angles of up to 178 degrees. Both deliver UWQHD (3440×1440) resolution with up to a 240 Hz refresh rate and 0.01 ms pixel response time, ensuring gameplay is smooth and free of stutter and lag.

The 800R curvature broadens the peripheral view and amplifies the line of vision to deepen engagement. A broad DCI-P3 99% colour gamut supports a vast array of colours and shades, while VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 showcases details often hidden in the shadows so no details are missed. These new models are also Eyesafe 2.0 certified and default to image retention refresh to help prevent eye strain.

All new models feature AMD FreeSync Premium that smoothly renders fast-paced action scenes without screen tearing and flickering. They also have a USB Type-C 90W PD port to deliver display, data transfer, and device charging simultaneously, and a built-in KVM switch for swapping sources without having to reconnect peripherals.

The Predator Z57 and the Predator X39 release date is still to be announced. The Predator X34 X will be available in Q2 2024, and the Predator X34 V3 will also be available in Q2 2024.

Go extra wide with Samsung’s 49 inch Odyssey OLED G9 mini-LED curved gaming monitor.

STG received a screen for review, and from the box there’s a bit of DIY.

You’ll get the super wide screen, stand and base with the required cables, including power and display connector cables.

The stand and base are in two separate bits, but it’s relatively easy putting them together. The stand itself clicks in to place and a single screw mounts the base to the stand.

Plug in your power and display connector cable and you’re good to go. Almost.

The Samsung 49 inch Odyssey OLED G9 has an onscreen menu. You may need to toggle through the settings to get your display working from Display port to HDMI or vice versa. I also advise that you check the capabilities of your Graphics Card (if using on PC) as this will help with applying the correct modes on to your screen.

To say that the Samsung 49 inch Odyssey OLED G9 monitor has a lot of screen real estate is an understatement.

For day-to day use (non-gaming) you can easily have multiple windows open, making the Odyssey OLED G9 to the likes of a dual monitor setup on a single screen.

There’s RGB lighting at the back, which is super cool, but not so effective in a darker environment. It’s just not quite bright enough.

Around the back you have more ports than you’ll ever need. There’s HDMI and Display Adaptor ports of course. In addition to those is a micro-HDMI and USB-A’s.

For the review model received, which was sadly in a well used condition, we tried both HDMI cable (not supplied) and Display port.

Ensuring that your GC (Graphics Card) is compatible with the 32:9 ratio and 5120 x 1440 resolution as well as HDR10+ you’re ready to get in to gaming, like you’ve never experienced before.

Some games tended to auto box – but this can be sorted for a fullscreen within that particular game’s menu / display settings. This is game specific though.

The 240Hz refresh and 0.03ms response rate really pays off if you’re playing something fast paced or when you need to react quickly and need know the threats as they appear in real time.

Despite the condition of the monitor that was sent to us, the OLED was popping, bright, detailed and on most games, having that extra graphical render space was mint.

The Odyssey OLED G9 monitor will require a large space. Bear this in mind when you’re looking to upsize your current screen. While the base is small it’s that super wide curved girth you’ll need to consider.

A killer gaming screen that makes gaming even that more submersible, but it does come at a price.

The Samsung 49 inch Odyssey OLED G9 monitor is a few thousand dollars of kit that is aimed at the serious PC players out there to loot, shoot and win on the battlefield.

Samsung has just announced the global launch of the Odyssey OLED G9 gaming monitor (G93SC model), which has been enhanced with an even larger and wider display, starting a new era of OLED gaming.

Building on the success of last year’s Odyssey OLED G8 (G85SB), the new monitor joins the lineup to open a new era of OLED gaming.

“Last year, Samsung addressed the demands and expectations of even the most experienced gamers with the launch of the Odyssey OLED G8,” said Hoon Chung, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “With the introduction of the Odyssey OLED G9, equipped with unrivalled picture quality, we are excited to offer our customers these powerful gaming monitors and raise the bar for OLED gaming.”

Measuring 49 inches in size with a 1800R curvature, the Odyssey OLED G9 is the first OLED monitor to offer Dual Quad High Definition (DQHD; 5,120 x 1,440) resolution with a 32:9 ratio. The large and wide screen ratio enables users to lose themselves in super-ultrawide vistas — equivalent to two QHD screens side by side. At the same time, its rapid 0.03ms grey-to-grey (GtG) response time and 240Hz refresh rate offer players a competitive edge.

The addition of the Neo Quantum Processor Pro sets the Odyssey OLED G9 apart from other OLED gaming monitors. Using a deep learning algorithm, it intelligently analyses images and automatically upscales to adjust brightness while amplifying contrast. This enables the monitor to restore each detail and deliver the most brilliant images, pixel by pixel.

AMD FreeSync Premium Pro further enhances the Odyssey OLED G9’s super smooth gameplay experience. With DisplayHDR True Black 400, the monitor delivers incredible details and vivid colours regardless of the game being played or the content the user is watching.

The Odyssey OLED G9 features a slim design housed within a sleek metal frame. On the back of the monitor is the much-loved CoreSync and Core Lighting+ which uses advanced lighting technology to match the colours on-screen, making content more immersive and bringing the gaming experience to life. Built-in stereo speakers complement on-screen content with crisp sound.

The Odyssey OLED G9 offers a variety of convenient functions and features that provide an optimised experience whether gaming or viewing. Versatile connectivity options, including HDMI 2.1 and Micro HDMI 2.1, Display Port 1.4, and Auto Source Switch+, create cleaner connections from one central USB hub while providing a seamless experience regardless of the content source. The Height Adjustable Stand (HAS) enables users to find the perfect gaming or viewing position, regardless of what they are playing.

The Odyssey OLED G9 (G93SC) will be available to preorder in July 2023, with availability for purchase in New Zealand in August 2023.

To celebrate the launch of a new model, Odyssey Cup will be held on the Samsung Odyssey Twitch channel on June 22, 2023, bringing 100 global gamers to an epic Fortnite tournament.

Samsung has just unveiled its 2023 lineup of Neo QLED 4K and 8K, Samsung OLED and Soundbars, showcasing the latest innovations in premium viewing across a wider range.

With a focus on enhancing the user experience by making complex technologies more intuitive and seamlessly integrated into people’s lives, innovations within design, display and sound respond to the needs of Kiwi consumers, all while delivering on Samsung’s impeccable quality.

“Kiwis need TVs that respond to their diverse needs and enhance their lives. With this year’s lineup, we seek to make premium viewing experiences more accessible and tailored to these diverse homes and lifestyles,” says Ryan Jolly, Head of TV Sales at Samsung New Zealand.

“Whether they are gamers or movie buffs seeking screens with high refresh rates and clear contrast, or consumers after a more everyday television that will blend into their interior and produce good quality sound and picture quality, TVs need to exist as part of the home experience in a seamless and intuitive way.”

Committed to delivering innovative products and features designed to ‘WOW’, Samsung’s 2023 AV range offers a variety of premium home viewing solutions, empowering consumers to choose a display that truly suits their needs and living spaces.

Samsung’s latest suite of Neo QLED televisions provides consumers with premium options that suit every need.

Neo QLED picture quality is powered by Samsung’s advanced Neural Quantum Processor, with 14-bit processing and AI upscaling, enabling features such as Shape Adaptive Light Control and Real Depth Enhancer Pro for a three-dimensional, lifelike picture.

The newest evolution of Neo QLED comes with Quantum Matrix Technology, which precisely controls the exclusive new Quantum Mini LEDs. With accurate ultra-fine light control, viewers can enjoy great detail in both the darkest and brightest scenes.

The company also added a 98-inch model to its Neo QLED 4K lineup, providing immaculate colour reproduction and realistic level of details in a scale that offers true cinematic experience. It offers upgraded sound with Dolby Atmos and Q-Symphony 3.0 to further envelope viewers in every single scene.

Samsung’s 2023 Neo QLEDs also go beyond just a clear picture, with a high-resolution panel and Samsung’s proprietary algorithm that powers Samsung’s new Auto HDR Remastering. It uses AI deep learning technology to analyse and apply real-time High Dynamic Range (HDR) effects on Standard Dynamic Range (SDR) content on a scene-by-scene basis, making SDR content brighter and livelier for absolute immersion.

Ground-breaking technology integrated into the QN900C is impressing industry experts and reviewers alike. With the QN900C 8K offering rated highly by TechRadar, the “gloriously detailed picture” is set to amaze. With exceptional upscaling of 4K content, there is more WOW than ever in 4k picture quality and evolution in realism and contrast.

Anti-reflection technology minimises glare from affecting perfect viewing experience – no matter where they are, viewers can have a brilliant viewing experience, any time of the day.

With smooth and flowing motions in even fast-paced images on the big screen, Neo QLED 8K and 4K not only bring video and photo content to life in ultra-high resolution but can also bring screen experiences like gaming to a whole new level. An exceptionally high refresh rate of 4K 144Hz , means that gaming on a Neo QLED provides an incomparable level of immersive gameplay, supporting both 8K and 4K resolution at a fast pace.

Samsung’s 2023 offering presents an advanced OLED rich in colour and deep in black, available in even more viewing options and arguable Samsung’s sleekest TV design ever.

Now available in 55, 65 and the new ultra-large 77-inch models powered by second-generation panels, 2023’s OLED lineup comes with Quantum Dot technology. Developed for Samsung’s Neo QLEDs and Neural Quantum Processors to retain OLED technology’s core strengths, Samsung’s Quantum Dot technology simultaneously improves brightness and colour representation.

The minimalist Infinity One and LaserSlim design blends Samsung OLED seamlessly into any interior. Presenting the slimmest design Samsung has ever created, OLED’s stylish design presents minimalism alongside strong functionality. Despite the ultra slim panel, Samsung OLED produces powerful sound with embedded multi-channel speakers including a real top speaker channel. When paired with Samsung’s proprietary OTS+ technology and Dolby Atmos, it provides a truly three dimensional soundscape with superb sound quality.

Samsung’s 2023 OLED lineup offers immaculate colour accuracy through Neural Quantum Processor 4K’s perceptional colour mapping – making Samsung OLED the “World’s First Pantone-Validated HDR OLED.”

In fact, Samsung OLED boasts true blacks and stunningly natural pictures with perfect contrast and colour expression. The S95C features Samsung’s signature Infinity One design, and the LaserSlim design of the S90C model adds a touch of sophisticated metal finish.

The expanded lineup also comes with a 144Hz refresh rate and all of Samsung’s smart features, including Samsung TV+ and Xbox Games Pass. For the first time on an OLED TV, Samsung OLEDs come with AMD’s FreeSync Premium Pro certification for the ultimate OLED gaming experience.

Viewers can complete the premium viewing set up with ultra-immersive audio. While Samsung TVs come with impressive built-in speakers, they also have powerful audio features and devices to enhance the viewing experience for something truly cinematic.

Features include:

• AI Sound Remastering: In 2023, Samsung’s flagship TV and Soundbar offer Sound Remastering, which utilises AI to remaster each sound object to ensure voices are clear, environmental sounds are totally enveloping and that each component is just the right volume.
• Q-Symphony: A new iteration of harmony between the TV and Soundbar , 2023 new Q-Symphony will provide vastly evolved sound for which the Soundbar taps into the TV’s Neural Processing Unit to analyse audio signals and process each sound for more detail than ever before.
• OTS+: An AI motion tracker, OTS+ analyses each scene and optimises the sound accordingly. Moving according to the motions on the screen, OTS+ sound allows viewers to experience a dynamic 3D surround sound effect that tracks with the motion on the screen, allowing complete immersion.
• New Soundbars: Samsung Soundbars, including the premium Q-series lineup, are expertly crafted and fine-tuned for powerful and captivating sound quality, enhanced compatibility with TVs, and streamlined, modern design. Features such as SpaceFit Sound have been praised by customers and reviewers for calibrating sounds to fit the acoustic properties of each space for tailor-made sound experiences.
• Samsung’s flagship HW-Q990C Soundbar offers an 11.1.4 channel true Dolby ATMOS sound with 4.0.2 channel of wireless surround speakers, along with the main body and a subwoofer. These physical speaker channels provide true cinematic sound quality.
• Paired together, Samsung TVs and Soundbars offer Wireless Dolby Atmos via Wi-Fi connection. The only brand in the industry to adopt this truly wireless experience, Samsung allows customers to experience high quality surround sound and a richer, more immersive sound experience – without cables.
• In addition to the flagship Soundbar, HW-Q990C, with 11.1.4 channel sound supporting Dolby Atmos, the ultra-slim HW-S800B offers powerful enveloping sound in Dolby Atmos from a 3.1.2 channel device that is just 40mm tall and 38mm deep. It is easily placed with any TV and still offers clear sound with punchy bass.

In 2023, by pairing Samsung TV’s with Samsung Soundbars, these devices will offer the most powerful, customisable and personalised ecosystem available to date.

Samsung’s Neo QLED 4K and 8K OLED smart TV range will release throughout 2023.

Explode your gaming prowess into something out of this world with Alienware’s newest 34 inch QD-OLED Curved Monitor.

From the box there is a need for some basic DIY.

And I do mean basic.

The base, monitor stand and screen are all in separate bits. While there are instructions, it’s straightforward with the monitor stand neatly screwing in to the weighted base and the stand clip and securing in to the back of the monitor, with an easy release.

You’re not going to need tools, unless you decide to wall mount the screen.

Then it’s straight in to some curvy eye candy, and I don’t just mean the OLED popping screen visuals, there’s some lighting going on at the rear.

The Alienware 34 inch Curved QD-OLED Monitor (model: AW3423DW) has a looped RGB LED effect around the stand mount, with the signature ‘Alien’ branding illuminating to match.

The monitor is NVIDIA G-Sync compatible. If you have a graphics card that is enabled with G-Sync you’ll get silky smooth gaming graphics.

Battles, tearing up the asphalt or looting can go beyond the screen and project an LED lit atmosphere to the wall behind.

It’s bright, and depending on the game played or synced to, is also effective, but you will need a darker gaming den or room. In a well lit environment you’re not going to experience much at all.

Now for that screen.

Coming in at 3440 x 1440 px with a 175Hz refresh and a 0.1 ms response rate the screen is just absolutely crisp and detail loaded.

For those who like to game and multitask, being the wideness that this monitor is, you can have the likes of Discord chat (if not already integrated into your game) fully open to one side and gameplay in another window without compromising the play view scope.

And sure, if you’re a super multitasker use this screen to have multiple windows open at once.

The Alienware 34 inch Curved QD-OLED Monitor while it is primarily designed for gamers, also has the vivd detailed visuals for content creators.

The monitor has a full suite of ports as well, 2x HDMI, 3x USB3, 3.5mm audio (in and out), 1x Display port and of course AC power. These are discreetly tucked away in the back allowing for a natural cable drop.

The stand allows for tilt and swivel and while heavy does not have a large footprint – the monitor itself does require a large scope though, so a wide desk is recommended.

While there is a line-out port for audio the Alienware 34 inch Curved Gaming Monitor does not have built-in speakers.

Pricewise, it’s actually a bit less than I thought it would be.

This QD-OLED beast will set you back at around $2.5K. Given the visuals, port array and additional RGB G-Sync this is a truly outstanding investment.

The Alienware 34 inch Curved Gaming Monitor (AW3423DW) is the best gaming screen I’ve reviewed this year at it’s current price point.

Game like you mean it and as it should be seen and experienced with this must-have.

Sony has announced their new BRAVIA XR televisions ahead of CES 2021, including the MASTER Series Z9J 8K LED and A90JOLED as well as the A80J OLED, X95J and X90J 4K LED televisions.

Powered by the Cognitive Processor XR, the brain of the new BRAVIA XR, the BRAVIA TV’s use a completely new processing method that goes beyond conventional Artificial Intelligence (AI), designed to replicate the ways humans see and hear. When we see objects, we unconsciously focus on certain points. Cognitive Processor XR, powered by cognitive intelligence, knows where that focal point is by dividing the screen into numerous zones and detecting the “focal point” in the picture. While conventional AI can only detect and analyse picture elements like colour, contrast and detail individually, the new processor can cross-analyse an array of elements at once, just as our brains do. By doing so, each element is adjusted to its best final outcome, in conjunction with each other, so everything is synchronised and lifelike – something that conventional AI cannot achieve.

Cognitive Processor XR also analyses sound position in the signal and output to achieve a precise match with the action on screen. In addition, it upconverts any sound to 3D surround sound, to deliver supreme realism with an immersive soundscape. It learns, analyses and understands unprecedented amounts of data and intelligently optimize every pixel, frame and scene for the most lifelike picture and sound Sony has ever delivered.

“Sony’s key objective is to offer customers an incredibly immersive viewing experience by utilising evolving technologies and premium large screens to perfectly delivering the creator’s true intent,” said Aki Hosoda, Head on TV, Sony ANZ. “The new BRAVIA XR TVs take big screen home entertainment to new heights with the introduction of the most advanced processing technology we have ever created.”

Key BRAVIA XR lineup highlights:

Google TV: This lineup also introduces Google TV, a brand-new entertainment experience that brings together movies, shows, live TV and more from apps and subscriptions and organizes them just for you. Easily find something to watch with personalized recommendations and bookmark shows and movies to a single Watchlist to keep track of what to watch. Users can even add to their Watchlist from their phone or laptop with Google Search.

HDMI 2.1 compatibility: All BRAVIA XR TVs will feature HDMI 2.1 compatibility, including 4K 120fps, Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) and e-ARC, supporting higher resolutions and frame rates ideal for next-generation gaming.

Sound-from-Picture Reality: In addition to best-in-class picture quality, the new Cognitive Processor XR also offers incredible sound with Sound-from-Picture Reality, which aligns the position of the sound with the images on the screen to offer a uniquely lifelike experience.

Hands-Free Voice Function: Sony’s voice-activated TVs work alongside Google Assistant to provide a smarter viewing experience. Ask the Assistant to search for the latest blockbuster or stream shows. Have it dim the lights by connecting smart home devices. Manage tasks and see your calendar, or ask it questions and see the answers on your TV.

Smart Speaker compatibility: With Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa enabled devices, you may cast and control videos from YouTube with Google Nest speakers or change the channel or volume with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa enabled devices.

Delivering the creator’s intent: The new models will continue to deliver the creator’s intent with Netflix Calibrated Mode, offering studio-quality Netflix content.

Official pricing for all BRAVIA TV’s is still to be announced.

LG Electronics (LG) and Microsoft have entered an exclusive marketing partnership to highlight the premium gaming experience of the highly-anticipated Xbox Series X console and LG OLED TV range.

The partnership is in key markets across Europe, Africa, Middle East and Asia-Pacific, which includes Australia.

Consumers will have the opportunity to experience for themselves the sheer exhilaration of gaming on the LG 2020 OLED TV models and the Xbox Series X console.

“At LG Electronics Australia, we’re excited to be working with Microsoft to deliver the ultimate gaming experience to Australian consumers during the coming months,” said Tony Brown, Marketing Manager for Home Entertainment at LG Electronics Australia.

To celebrate the partnership in Australia, LG Electronics Australia will be running a local competition via social media to reward gamers with the next-generation gaming set up, comprised of an LG 48-inch CX OLED TV and an Xbox Series X console.

“In Australia, we have seen exceptional demand for our LG OLED TV range. We believe the combination of self-lit pixel technology and the ability to show 4K games at 120 frames per second make LG OLED TVs the perfect choice for Australian gamers looking to experience the new Xbox Series X,” added Brown.

The combination of the advanced LG OLED TV technology and Xbox’s most powerful console will enable both gamers to enjoy next-generation gaming today. Games will not only look and sound incredible but will be more responsive thanks to features such as an ultra-fast 1ms response time with low input lag and support for the latest HDMI specifications including Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) and enhanced return audio channel (eARC). HDMI 2.1 ports built-in mean LG OLED TVs are capable of supporting these features whether users are console or PC gamers.

With self-lit pixel technology, LG OLED TVs boast advanced picture quality with vibrant, natural colours and infinite contrast, delivering a wide color gamut and HDR performance. As the first TV and the first gaming console designed to support Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, LG OLED TV and Xbox Series X will draw gamers deep into the action with dynamic images and sounds.

To help combat eye fatigue from gaming, 2020 LG TV models which feature OLED panels that are Eye Comfort Display certified by TÜV Rheinland, as meeting the criteria set by the leading eye comfort certification provider. The certification indicates that the TVs are flicker-free and emit low blue light.

For even more eye comfort assurance, LG OLED TVs are also verified by Underwriters Laboratories (UL).

The way we consume entertainment has drastically changed and evolved over the past few years.

Around the mid 2010’s maunfacturers of the good ole home televsions began integrating web Apps in to their devices.

Each year Samsung wows us with newer devices from their smartphones through to connected fridges and washing machines, and of course TV’s.

Samsung’s Q Series for this year sees three variants in their Q9F QLED offerings, 65 inch and a mega sized 75 inch.

While not light on the pocket or budget, the Q Series are light and easy on the eyes with a slim screen bezel and low base footprint on your entertainment unit.

Samsung NZ sent over a 4K Q9F smart TV for us to use for around a month.

The first thing I noticed, was the minimalist approach to their Bluetooth enabled remote.

It has basic features required for controlling your media watching – as you would expect aswell as voice control.

If you own a later model Galaxy smartphone, you can take control of the TV with that, but most of the features are found under the Smart Hub and Apps.

Asides from the glorious 4K and playing PlayStation 4 Pro with eye popping goodness, the Q9F was scarily intelligent enough to recognise my Sony A/V receiver that has all of my gaming consoles plugged in to it for pure cinema and Dolby surround for games.

The TV recognised the receiver and took charge.

When everything was plugged in via the separate connection box which uses a single almost invisible wire to the TV the receiver would automatically turn it on when I powered up the PS4 Pro.

This also placed a tile in the Apps, like a shortcut in the Smart Hub for the PS4. Oddly, it did not regognize the Xbox One. It placed this under the PS4 Pro icon and didn’t list it separately.

Even terrestrial TV was simple. The Q9F took no time in tuning itself in to all of the main and UHF based channels and as for sound, this would optimise instantly to what you were viewing. Game mode will automatically come on when gaming. For YouTube vids that were not high definition the TV would do it’s best to play them at a watchable resolution, upscaling without pixelation.

Speaking of sound though, pairing one of the Q Series TVs up with the Samsung Sound Bar and Sub almost outdid my 7.2 Home Cinema setup.

Asides from when gaming, I did not use my 7.2 receiver at all. There was simply no need as the Sound Bar and wireless (Bluetooth) Sub mimicked a surround sound experience.

Super thin and not as heavy as I expected for a 65 inch I was really sad to see the Q9F leave my lounge after our review period was up.

I did miss however, not having stereoscopic 3D (yes, I am pretty sure I am one of the last remaining fans of this).

A Q Series TV is a significant investment. They are pricey. The unit that I had to review, the 65 inch Q9F comes in at around $6,699.00.

If you have the budget and want to have a connected home environment and ease for watching media where it is alsomst a one button affair, then I’d recommend looking in to the Samsung Q9F series.
