The company also revealed the future of hybrid AI fuelling multi-device, software, and service offerings for more personalisation, collaboration and efficiency.

Introducing Lenovo’s latest groundbreaking proof-of-concept, the Lenovo ThinkBook Transparent Display Laptop Concept revolutionises the interaction and creation experience with its remarkable 17.3-inch Micro-LED transparent display. With a borderless screen, transparent keyboard area, and a seemingly floating footpad design, it effortlessly exudes a sense of high-tech simplicity, elevating the user’s overall experience.

The brilliance of this laptop lies in its intelligent integration of the virtual and real. Through the power of Artificial Intelligence Generated Content (AIGC), the transparent screen opens new avenues of work collaboration and efficiency by enabling the interaction with physical objects and overlaying digital information to create unique user generated content. The transparency allows it to effortlessly integrate naturally within its environment. Whether it is working, creating, and gaming on a PC, communicating and consuming content on a smartphone, or taking everything on-the-go with a tablet, switching from device to device and sharing content across ecosystems is now possible with just a swipe. With Smart Connect, users can watch a movie on a tablet and swipe it to a PC to resume, listen to a podcast on a smartphone and finish it on a laptop at home, work on a document on a laptop and edit it on their smartphone, and even start a presentation on a desktop PC and make it more portable by swiping it to a tablet. Easy to hold and carry, the Lenovo Smart Paper is a slim 10.3-inch, anti-glare E-Ink touch display that is housed in a lightweight, all-metal casing that’s sure to free up some space in one’s backpack. Leveraging the wonders of E-Ink technology, this digital notepad gives users the pen-on-paper feel they’re accustomed to, along with smart features that optimise their productivity in unexpected ways.

Included with the device is an active battery-less stylus that can be easily stored within the case. This Lenovo Smart Paper Pen never has to be charged and features a felt tip and up to 23-millisecond latency so that the writing experience is both familiar and fluid with virtually no lag.

With the one stylus, users can choose from nine different pen settings – including ballpoint, pencil (wooden and mechanical), marker, and even calligraphy – so they don’t have to fumble for the right writing utensil. The new Lenovo Legion 7 series laptops exceed expectations with a number of innovation firsts that adapt to and balance the multi-dimensional needs of modern gamers and professional players. These new devices not only have the world’s largest battery capacity on a 16-inch gaming laptop, they also reign as the world’s first 16-inch gaming laptops with FHD webcams for better streaming, and as the first 16-inch WQXGA (2560×1600) gaming laptops. As the world’s most powerful 16-inch gaming laptops, the Lenovo Legion 7i and 7 (16”, 7) are engineered for those who demand the highest performance in their gametime.

The laptops’ sleek, stylish, and understated sports-tuned design features an improved hinge and I/O dashboard. Crafted from aluminum and magnesium aerospace-grade metal into a unibody design, the new Lenovo Legion 7i and 7 laptops have a CNC metal trim that’s subtle and minimalist in its expression of unrestrained power. An environmental RGB system with ambient effects on the keyboard and trim sync up with the content displayed on its screen.

The Lenovo Legion TrueStrike keyboard is also improved with curved keys featuring travel that’s deeper than the previous generation. New WASD Force Sensor Technology with optional swappable keys lets players accelerate their in-game character as more force is applied to the keys.

Underneath the laptops’ sleek covers is sheer power.

This mighty machine offers serious range too, with a battery of 99.99Whr – the world’s largest battery on a 16-inch gaming laptop – and up to 135Whr USB Type-C fast charging.

And as the world’s first gaming laptops with a16-inch WQXGA display, the Lenovo Legion 7i and 7 come in a taller 16:10 aspect ratio with up to 1,250 nits peak brightness and full DCI-P3 calibrated color space coverage, high dynamic range, and TÜV eye safe certification. Gamers can choose between three panel options at up-to-240Hz variable refresh rates (165Hz standard) for everyday use, smoother eSports gameplay where every frame counts, or cinematic visuals with amazing color accuracy. The new Lenovo Legion 7i and Legion 7 laptops also feature Tobii Horizon software, which brings a more immersive experience for gamers, and Tobii Aware, which uses smart sensor technology to help improve users’ security, privacy, and wellbeing.

The Lenovo Legion 7i and 7 feature up to 12th Gen Intel Core HX Series or AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX processors, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Laptop GPU (up to 175W TGP) or AMD Radeon RX 6850M XT mobile graphics, DDR5 memory, and Gen 4 PCIe SSD storage are all tuned for maximum performance via the Lenovo Legion A.I. Engine 2.0.

This A.I. engine can predict fan curve, and balance GPU and CPU resource output in real time depending on each game to deliver its best performance. Its A.I. calibration can also intelligently boost the Lenovo Legion Coldfront 4.0 thermal system to cool down the GPU and CPU, while the laptop’s vapor chamber technology expands the boundaries of what’s possible in a gaming laptop for desktop-level performance CPUs, with up to 115W of thermal capacity without throttling.

The thermals also include 67 percent thinner fan blades from the previous generation for improved air flow, phase-change thermal compound coating for faster heat transfer, larger surface area and sub-keyboard intake vents.

As Lenovo Legion’s thinnest and lightest 16-inch gaming laptop, the new Lenovo Legion Slim 7i and 7 (16”, 7) are engineered for powerful gaming and content creation experiences in a polished and minimalist design. Available in Storm or Onyx grey, the CNC-machined metal trim build is light and svelte at 2kg (4.4 lb) and 16mm (0.63 in), thanks to its aluminum and magnesium aerospace-grade metal unibody casing. The elevated design is suited for virtually any setting, whether in a coffee shop, office or a gaming tournament, while taking up the same overall footprint as a 15-inch laptop.

The new Lenovo Legion Slim 7 laptop series offer greater freedom to roam, while still retaining the power and performance with up to the latest 12th Gen Intel Core H Series or AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX processors. Users will need fewer adapters for the road with the laptops’ improved and dedicated rear I/O dashboard with HDMI 2.1, while enjoying unprecedented range with a massive 99.99Whr capacity battery and up to 135 Whr USB Type-C Fast Charging.

The large 16-inch display also empowers gamers to enter new pixel-perfect worlds of brilliant color and shadow, with color calibration software support, high dynamic range, and up to DCI P3 color accuracy – without straining their eyes with TÜV Rheinland Gold Label certification.

From generation to generation, the Lenovo Legion Slim 7 series have also expanded the active area ratio of its 16-inch WQXGA display from 86 percent to 93 percent with a 16:10 aspect ratio for even more immersive viewing. Underneath the sleek exterior, the Lenovo Legion Slim 7i and 7 are tuned by A.I. in the Lenovo Legion Coldfront 4.0 thermal system and Lenovo Legion A.I. Engine 2.0 to balance GPU and CPU resource output for better performance. The laptops also feature up to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 (up to 100W Boosted TGP) GPU or AMD Radeon RX 6800S mobile graphics, with DDR5 memory and Gen 4 PCIe SSD storage.

Generational improvements to the thermal system include a 29 percent increase in size, 31 percent more liquid crystal polymer fan blades that are also 40 percent thinner, while spinning 100rpm faster thanks to a dual fan system; an additional copper heat pipe dedicated just for the GPU VRAM as well as a coating of phase-change thermal compound to boost heat sink effectiveness.

Lenovo engineers further implemented a sub-key air intake system in the keyboard, with over 1,172 intake vents, where each key features 1.3mm soft-landing switches for faster, more accurate key strikes. Cumulatively, these design and engineering improvements combine to deliver fan noise of under 30 decibels while in Stealth Mode, which roughly matches the voice of a whisper.

Available on all Lenovo Legion PCs is the on-device application designed to take the complexity out of gaming. Lenovo’s Legion Arena is a gaming platform that consolidates all of a user’s owned PC games into one centralised hub, linking to popular platforms and online stores, all from one location for a seamless and efficient gaming experience.

The Legion 7i (16”, 7) with Intel Core processor is expected to be available starting July 2022, Legion 7 (16”, 7), AMD Advantage Edition with AMD Ryzen processor is expected to be available starting July 2022.

Lenovo have been in the laptop game for eons, predominantly known for their ThinkPad series, but the Chinese-American tech giant also have a highly respected Legion lineup.

Catering to gamers specifically Legion laptops are one of the best of the breeds currently out there for serious PC gamers and eSports competitors.

Recently Lenovo sent over one of their latest and greatest Legion’s, the 5i.

What I would class to be a middle road serious gaming laptop it packs the grunt while missing some opportunities.

The Legion 5i comes in to the ring with a 16 inch WQXGA (2560×1600) IPS non-touch screen having 500 nits and a generous 165Hz refresh.

Lenovo have kept the bezel slim on either side, top and bottom with the 720p web cam slightly jutting out at the top.

Visuals pop and sizzle powered by a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card.

Graphics wise and when you couple with the 165Hz refresh rate there shouldn’t be anything that you wont be able to play fluidly, without stutter or screen lag given its Dolby Vision feature, HDR 400 and GSync.

To keep you in the game the Legion 5i has 11th Gen i7 cores (x8 @ 4.6GHz with 24MB cache).

The unit that I received in to STG has 16GB RAM and a low 475GB SSD.

Well, both are on the low side when you think of hardcore PC gaming. 32GB RAM would’ve been ideal and given that PC gamers, like me have an extensive games library at just over 400GBs, shared with Windows 11, you’re not going to get a lot of the bigger games installed.

However it appears that the onboard specs are just enough to get it through and during my time with the Lenovo 5i I experienced zero issues.

Games like Forza Horizon 5, Borderlands 3 and Call of Duty: Vanguard played seamlessly.

The Legion 5i stays cool even during long marathons, this is due to Lenovo’s design team having added massive exhausts to both the rear and ventilation grills underneath as well.

What stood out for me on this beast was the battery.

While I would class the 5i as being a desk placement due to it’s weight of almost 3kgs, if you’re inclined to run off battery power, or pick up and take to a mates place or gaming event you should expect up to 7 hours.

Now, this will of course vary.

On standby I was able to get way more than 7 hours, it was around 12.

Usual everyday use saw that 7 hour benchmark right on point dying out at just a little over 7 hours.

Gaming on the other hand varied. Call of Duty drained in less than 3 hours. Borderlands 3 saw 4.5 and Forza was the worst gobbler at just over 2 hours.

Bear in mind that for these tests I didn’t turn anything down or off both spec and graphics wise and hey, they’re still good innings.

Onboard ports are always a deciding factor for me when it comes to getting a gaming laptop.

Usually they always fall short of a USB port, or worse, don’t have one at all.

The Legion 5i has x4 USB 3.0. There’s also the traditional 3.5mm headphone / mic port, x2 Thunderbolt4 (@ 40GBps) which can also be used as display ports, x1 HDMI, ethernet and of course power located at the rear.

The Lenovo Legion 5i looks the part.

The one received in was the Stingray colour – an off-white, almost a metallic pearl, but it’s also with this particular colour that Lenovo went for being matchy over RGB.

The full chiclet keyboard on this model has a blue-white key backlight.

Other variants do have the customizable RGB.

If you’re not fussed whether your keyboard is the colour spectrum of a rainbow and just want to get in to the game, then getting the Stingray should be fine.

And fine it is. While I do feel that certain things could’ve been beefed up a bit more to make the Legion 5i a one stop shop – I can also see that given the pricing tier of this model it does still give you enough bang for your buck.

Coming in at just a bit over $2K the Legion 5i is going to have you gaming alongside the best of them, keeping pace and in some regards (battery) outlasting others.
