First acclaimed for his early work with influential French tastemakers Kitsuné, Belgian DJ/producer The Magician is one of dance music’s most intriguing characters.

Today he releases his first music of 2020; ‘The Renaissance’ EP– a record comprised of two new tracks written during isolation (lead single ‘You And Me’ and ‘Disco Romance’), as well as a special, Proto-Disco Club Mix of ‘You And Me’.

Retracing his early roots, the tracks are inspired by a heady mix of disco, funk, 80s/90s pop and contemporary electronics, with ‘You And Me’ – a lush, emphatic slice of feel-good dance-pop – nodding to The Magician’s knack for writing bold and infectious tracks with crossover hit potential.

Inspired by house and classic disco, The Magician’s breakthrough came in the form of a remix of Lykke Li’s ‘I Follow Rivers’ in 2011, which went on to amass over 300 million streams and top dance charts across Europe.

It bridged the gap between his funkier, more experimental output and the mainstream, laying the foundations for 2014’s hit record ‘Sunlight’ featuring Olly Alexander from Years & Years, a track that went onto secure Top 10 status in the UK, Europe, and Australia, as well as breaching the Billboard Top 100 in the US.

The prolific artist, producer and DJ, WHIPPED CREAM, has been on a tear since her very first release, steadily churning out hit after hit.

Travis Barker),” Complex praised the song, highlighting “Jasiah and Barker’s high-performance energy, which oscillates between hushed and aggressive.”

The summer of The Knocks has only just begun, and the beloved electronic music duo are dropping a new single called “Colors,” officially out today through Big Beat / Neon Gold.

The effortlessly cool pair keep churning out hit after sweltering hit; July 2019 saw the release of two new singles called “New York Luau” and “No Requests,” which was preceded by their other latest single “Awa Ni”, with the Nigerian singer Kah-Lo.

“Colors” is no exception, leaning on ethereal synths and disco-tinged guitars, before the house track erupts, blurring multiple genre lines (in true Knocks fashion), proving once again why JPatt and B-Roc reign supreme as some of the most forward-thinking artists in music.

The Knocks most recent LP New York Narcotic is celebrated for the duo’s ability to continue crossing barriers, interlacing electronic, alternative, and urban sonics. The album includes their smash single “Ride or Die” ft. B-Roc and Jpatt have been grinding as The Knocks for a decade, making music for themselves and others in their HeavyRoc studio in New York City. The dynamic electronic producer Ekali is hard at work on his highly anticipated debut album, and today he’s giving us a taste with “Runaway” – the first single release off the album – to tide fans over in the meantime.

Featuring the breakout rapper Reo Cragun, “Runaway” is an undeniably electric anthem combining elements of electronic music set against Cragun’s memorable chorus and soulfully-spit verses. Ekali’s genre-defying production talent truly shines on the new track, featuring trap hi-hats, a heavy driving bassline and booming percussion.

Although a relatively new endeavor, Ekali (née Nathan Shaw) is no stranger to the music world. When he received props from Drake and PartyNextDoor on his track, “Unfaith,” leading the Toronto rapper to sample it on his chart-topping album If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, it became clear it was the beginning of something special for Ekali.

Alongside releasing a series of performance tracks so far this year, the producer is supplementing studio time this summer by playing festivals and shows all over the US, including Shaky Beats, Electric Forest, Fvded In The Park, Camp Bisco, Capitol Hill Block Party, and Red Rocks Amphitheatre with Alison Wonderland. Seventeen year-old Australian producer Perto has teamed up with GRAMMY-nominated, Nigerian-born / NYC-based vocalist Kah-Lo to deliver dancehall-infused single “Bad Maybe Good”.

The party-starting “Bad Maybe Good” blends Kah-Lo’s distinctive soulful tones and effortless energy with the young prodigy’s infectious, hip-hop-infused electronic sound. “We made this song when Kah-Lo was on tour in Sydney with Riton a few months ago,” Perto said of the collaboration, “my team said she was down to do a session, and I was like, ‘What!’, it was super weird. We ended up getting into the studio and it all happened in two hours. It was a crazy dynamic that day.”

Finding inspiration at the age of 10 after hearing Skrillex’s “Bangarang” on the radio for the first time, he spent the next few years teaching himself music production; fast-forward to just a few years later and prodigious Perto now shares the same team rosters as his former idol.

For any young producer, collaborating and crossing paths with revered artists like Timbaland and Billie Eilish is what dreams are made of, but for the 17-year-old it is very much a reality. In a recent interview with i-D, he revealed exactly what he has been working on while flying under the radar. “Between LA and Miami, I worked with Timbaland, Ludacris, Justin Timberlake, Billie Eilish and Whethan…so much stuff! And Diablo — he basically kicked off Smokepurpp and Lil Pump’s careers. He was producing them from day one. He’s the craziest dude ever. We linked in LA and I was cancelling sessions with everyone else because I just wanted to hang out at his house and work on stuff.”

The combination of Perto’s production prowess shows a maturity well beyond his years along with a unique and kinetic live presence which has already landed him endorsements from Zane Lowe and Apple’s Beats 1 as well as in some of the world’s biggest clubs. He headlined his first extensive club tour around Australia and New Zealand at age 16 as well as supported Alison Wonderland for her Australian 2018 Awake Tour.

Perto is on a come-up that is quickly extending overseas, and he is undoubtedly a producer to keep an eye on this year as he continues to release bangers.
