When the Xbox team were designing Xbox Series X|S, they knew they wanted to continue their commitment to compatibility they started back in 2015, enabling gamers to play their favorite titles from past generations on the new consoles.

Nearly all titles benefit from next generation features like faster loading times and the ability to Quick Resume. Then the team went one step further; adding enhancements to many of our most played games so they look, feel and play better than ever before.

As detailed in October 2020, with the increased CPU, GPU and memory from our the consoles, all of your existing games look and play better.

With certain titles, they can make the experience even better, all with no work required by the developer, and no update needed by the gamer. To that end, the backward compatibility team has developed FPS Boost, which employs a variety of new methods for nearly doubling (and in a few instances, quadrupling) the original framerate on select titles.

Higher, steadier framerates make games visually smoother, resulting in more immersive gameplay. Xbox partnered closely with developers to enhance the experience while maintaining the game’s original intent. And while not applicable to all games, these new techniques can push game engines to render more quickly for a buttery smooth experience beyond what the original game might have delivered due to the capabilities of the hardware at the time.

Xbox are excited to announce the first assortment of backward compatible titles that will support FPS Boost – available beginning today –  are Far Cry 4, New Super Lucky’s Tale, Sniper Elite 4, UFC 4, and Watch Dogs 2. We chose this initial collection of titles not only because they are popular among fans, but to highlight several different ways that FPS Boost can improve your experience.

For example, New Super Lucky’s Tale can now run up to 120 frames per second (fps) and UFC 4 delivers improved framerate performance specifically on Xbox Series S and can now run at 60fps.

This is just the beginning.

Xbox will announce and release more titles featuring FPS Boost soon, as well roll out new menu icons and system settings in an upcoming system update. Starting this Spring (US time), you can go into the “Manage Game” section for any title, where you’ll be presented with a new “Compatibility Options” button that will allow you to toggle FPS Boost (as well as Auto HDR) on or off.

There will also be a new indicator informing you when a game is running with FPS Boost whenever you hit the Xbox Button on your controller. You decide how you want to play your favorite games, whether in its original form or with FPS Boost.

And FPS Boost doesn’t only benefit gamers who own these titles – you’ll be happy to hear that many of these upcoming FPS Boost games will be available in Xbox Game Pass.

From this initial release of updates, New Super Lucky’s Tale and Sniper Elite 4 are currently available with Xbox Game Pass. We’re very excited for fans to experience FPS Boost and in the coming months, Xbox will be announcing more and more games that support this function.

This year’s Xbox E3 briefing was as spectacular as ever. Hosted by Xbox head, Phil Spencer, the briefing kicked off with the unveiling of the Xbox One X, previously known as Project Scorpio, the world’s most powerful console with true 4K, compatibility, and is the smallest console in the Xbox family.

The Xbox One X is set to release on November 7th, 2017 for $499 USD and we gamers can expect a truly powerful play and media experience.

Firstly Xbox have set the Xbox One X at true 4K resolution with over 8 Million pixels in full HDR with a wide colour gamut. What does all that really mean? That games are going to look glorious.

Bluray is still retained which is a wise decision of Microsoft’s, being able ti play UHD 4K films.

The even more important aspect is of course audio. whether you prefer to use a headset, a surround sound setup or just jam on the TV, Xbox One X will have premium Dolby Atmos sound builtin.

After the cheering crowds settled, it was on to the games. All original Xbox One games and accessories will be compatible with the Xbox One X with Xbox exclusive titles and some third party games getting free 4K updates, including:; Gears of War 4, Forza Horizon 3, Killer Instinct, Halo Wars 2, Minecraft, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands and Rocket League to name a few.

On offer were first exclusive looks at 42 different titles, 22 of which are Xbox console exclusive. A list of the games coming exclusively to the Xbox One family are:

• Forza Motorsport 7, releasing in October, which was announced along with a brand new Porsche GT11, which was unveiled for the first time and exclusively for the Xbox E3 briefing;
• Metro Exodus – set to release in 2018;
• Player Unknown Battlegrounds, currently the most popular streaming title;
• State of Decay 2 – set to release in 2018;
• Crackdown 3, which releases in November;
• Super Lucky’s Tale, releasing in November, a rather cute and colourful game that could be said to be a spiritual successor to Crash Bandicoot, Banjo Kazooie and Super Mario 64;
• Sea of Thieves, a multiplayer pirate game;
• Ori and the Will of the Wisps, which will be a Windows exclusive; and
• A whole heap of ID @ Xbox titles.

That was not all. Xbox also announced that after learning that over half the users of Xbox One were making use of their backwards compatibility programme, they have decided to add a selection of original Xbox games to the programme. Yep you read that right – Xbox Classic returns. Oh yes!

The Rock Concert-like briefing was closed out with a more in depth glimpse of Bioware’s newest IP, Anthem, which looks pretty darned good. This could be Bioware’s answer to Destiny.

Xbox certainly surprised and delighted us and we can’t wait to experience the Xbox One X for ourselves.

Xbox firmly believe that gaming is universal and should be enjoyed by everyone, everywhere.

Retaining their since launching Xbox One two years ago has been to put gamers at the center of everything they do and create the best, most seamless gaming experience possible.

Now they are taking a major step forward in that journey from November the 12th, 2015 they are beginning to start rolling out the New Xbox One Experience with Xbox One Backward Compatibility.

First off is a whopping 104 games that will be available in the Xbox One store and can also be found HERE. Going forward, all Xbox 360 games available through Games with Gold after November 12th will be playable on Xbox One.

Their launch of 104 titles is just the beginning.

Xbox One gamers expect new Xbox One Backward Compatible games to be announced on a regular basis, starting in December, 2015 with more titles already scheduled, including fan favorites like Halo Reach, Halo Wars, Call of Duty: Black Ops 1, Bioshock, Bioshock 2, Bioshock Infinite, and Skate 3.

Stay tuned because this is just the beginning of a long list of Xbox 360 games that will run on Xbox One from now until forever.
