The King of Staten Island follows the life of Scott Carlin played by comedian Pete Davidson.

This is based off Pete’s own life experiences with growing up and also dealing with grief after losing his father in a fire tragedy. It gives a bit of insight to who he is as a person and where his comedy stems from.

Scott is in a rut with his life as he spends all day smoking weed and not doing much else other than tattooing his friends in the hopes to become a great tattoo artist. He doesn’t seem to have much direction to what he is doing with his life and continues to live with his mother with no foresight to his future.

The King of Staten Island

When his mother meets someone new for the first time in years, he takes an immediate dislike to him and tries to break them up. In doing so he manages to get himself kicked out, forcing him to fend for himself.

You’ll quite often find his character using wit to deflect uncomfortable situations.

It is the effortless, quick remarks which get delivered at the right time that hit the mark with the comedy. This film is about growth and taking responsibility of ones life which we can all relate to. It does take a while to get to the turning point in his life, however it is never dull and manages to hold your interest throughout.

The King of Staten Island was a great watch, it was heartfelt and took you on a raw emotional journey of loss, growth and finding your purpose in the world.
