Rocket League content creator Jared “SunlessKhan” Zook is back at it, and this time, he’s not just making videos. He’s launching his own full-blown competitive league… with a twist.

Dubbed the Rocket League Battle Series (RLBS), the new 2v2 league is all about speed, chaos, and top-tier entertainment. Fast-paced matches, over-the-top antics, and a touch of theatrical flair. Oh, and trash talk? Encouraged.

A Whole Season in One Weekend

Instead of dragging on for months, the entire RLBS season will unfold over just one weekend. Friday and Saturday will host 14 rapid-fire games each, followed by playoffs and a championship on Sunday. Every match is a short, sharp three minutes, keeping the action tight and the energy high.

Once it’s all said and done, the whole event will be edited into one long YouTube video, packed with gameplay, character banter, and highlight-reel moments, made for SunlessKhan’s 2.3 million+ subscribers.

Eight Franchises, Eccentric Characters

There’ll be eight franchises battling it out, each with two players. The team names are as chaotic as you’d expect:

  • Clowns
  • Generals
  • Team of Bronzes
  • Painkillers
  • Goblins
  • Philosophers
  • Divorced Dads
  • Natural Disasters

Each player will take on a character, either one they choose or one assigned by the league. But here’s the kicker: players will stay anonymous during matches. No voice chat, just in-game text. They’ll type out their characters’ lines and talk smack in chat, all while keeping their real identities hidden.

It’s part Rocket League, part roleplay, and it’s as entertaining as it sounds.

Only the Best (and Boldest)

Despite the fun-focused vibe, skill still matters. Players need to be ranked near or at Supersonic Legend, or have reached that rank in the past. Sunless is currently scouting high-level freestylers, pros, ex-pros, and standout creators to fill the rosters.

He’s already hinted that some big names are signing up, tweeting:

No surprise there, SunlessKhan has a reputation for blending competition with creativity. From orchestrating the “Longest Rocket League Game in History” to co-founding Rule One Esports, he’s no stranger to putting on a show.

New Tools, New Possibilities

The timing couldn’t be better. Rocket League’s recent update introduced new admin tools for private matches, allowing organisers to pause games, change time and score, and restart from kickoff. These features should make managing the RLBS much smoother, especially for a format this unconventional. You can read more about this new update here

When and Where?

Dates for the RLBS haven’t been locked in yet, but sign-ups are already open for qualified players. You can access the sign-ups link here. The final product, a single, content-rich video, will land on SunlessKhan’s YouTube channel once the dust settles.
