One of the most recognisable names in competitive League of Legends, Han “Peanut” Wang-ho, has confirmed he’ll be stepping away from the pro scene in 2026 to complete his mandatory military service in South Korea.

The Hanwha Life Esports jungler made the announcement after his team’s victory over KT Rolster on September 20, marking his last appearance at LoL Park. With Worlds 2025 right around the corner, Peanut is now eyeing one last chance at lifting the Summoner’s Cup before he trades the Rift for military duties.

Military service calls

Mandatory service has long been a turning point for many LCK players, with some stars like Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok gaining exemptions after big international wins such as the Asian Games. Peanut, who turns 28 in February 2026, has delayed the call-up for years but will no longer be able to put it off.

Fans will still see him compete at the upcoming League of Legends World Championship, set to kick off in China on October 14. Hanwha Life Esports have already secured their place at the event after a strong playoff run.

A decorated career

Peanut’s journey through professional League of Legends has been nothing short of eventful. He first broke into the spotlight with ROX Tigers in 2016, catching the eye of SKT T1 despite being knocked out by them in the Worlds semifinals. Joining SKT the following year, Peanut helped the team secure the 2017 LCK Spring Split and the Mid-Season Invitational title.

Over the years he’s represented some of the biggest organisations in the LCK and beyond, including Kingzone DragonX, Gen.G, and a stint in China with LGD Gaming. He also teamed up with Faker to represent South Korea at the 2018 Asian Games, though the squad fell short against China.

In 2022, Peanut hit a career peak with Gen.G, winning the LCK Summer Split before bowing out of Worlds in the semifinals. Two years later, he joined Hanwha Life Esports, turning the underdog roster into serious contenders and helping them claim the 2024 Summer Split.

While 2025 brought mixed results, including a stumble in the Summer Split, Hanwha bounced back to win the LCK Cup and secure a Worlds ticket.

One last shot at Worlds glory

With his departure confirmed, all eyes are on Peanut as he gears up for what could be his final run on the international stage. For many fans, a Worlds title would be the perfect send-off for one of the most beloved and consistent junglers in the game’s history.

“Thank you for everything, thank you everyone,” Peanut said after his last game at LoL Park, a heartfelt message to supporters who have followed him throughout his decade-long career.

Whether or not he manages to cap things off with a Summoner’s Cup, Peanut’s legacy as one of League of Legends’ greats is already set in stone.
