The LEC Summer Split 2025 is right around the corner, and it’s bringing more than just your regular League of Legends brawls. Kicking off on 2 August, this year’s final split of the EMEA League has introduced a revamped format, a few surprise roster shake-ups, and three golden tickets to the World Championship in China.

A Split in Two

Instead of all ten teams slugging it out in one giant group like past seasons, they’ve been split into two groups of five. Each group plays a single round-robin, with every match being a best-of-three (Bo3) using the Fearless Draft system — meaning once a champion is picked in one match, it’s banned for the next.

That makes every game a fresh puzzle and rewards teams with deeper champion pools and better strategy.

Each team gets four matches, and the stakes are sky-high: only the top four teams from each group move on to the playoffs. If you’re sitting in 5th? You’re out.

Group A vs Group B

Here’s how the groups have shaped up based on Spring Split performance:

Group A: Movistar KOI, Karmine Corp, GIANTX, Team Vitality, Natus Vincere (NAVI)
Group B: G2 Esports, Fnatic, Team BDS, SK Gaming, Team Heretics

Yes, that means we’ll get Fnatic vs G2 again, mark 17 August in your calendar, because that one’s always fireworks.

The first matches on 2 August will see NAVI debut in the LEC against Karmine Corp, and Team Heretics take on Fnatic.

Playoffs and Path to Worlds

Once we hit the playoffs, the format shifts to a double-elimination bracket. Every match becomes a best-of-five, again using Fearless Draft. The top 3 teams at the end of it all will qualify for Worlds 2025, running from 14 October to 8 November in China.

This means, for the likes of G2, KOI, Fnatic, and Karmine Corp, there’s not much room for mistakes. But don’t count out underdogs like BDS or GIANTX, who’ve been quietly climbing the ranks.

Big Roster Moves

If the new format wasn’t enough drama, we’ve had a wave of roster changes this split. The most notable?

  • Fnatic brought in rookie midlaner Poby from T1 Academy, benching longtime veteran Humanoid.
  • NAVI, fresh off inheriting Rogue’s LEC slot, made three big changes, including Malrang switching to support.
  • SK Gaming overhauled their core, bringing in DnDn, Skeanz, and Abbedagge.
  • BDS added Korean top laner Rooster and former SK jungler Boukada.
  • Vitality promoted Fleshy from their academy lineup.

On the other hand, G2 Esports, Heretics, and KOI have kept their Spring squads intact.

What’s at Stake?

There’s more than pride on the line. The total prize pool this split is €80,000, with the lion’s share — €40,000 — going to the champions. And while that’s nice, the real prize is one of those three Worlds 2025 slots.

It all begins on 2 August, so whether you’re backing a big-name org or hoping for an underdog run, this is one split you won’t want to miss.
