It’s been a tough year for Kanon Gaming. The Malta-based iGaming operator has just been hit with a hefty fine from Sweden’s Gambling Authority, Spelinspektionen, after being found in breach of duty of care regulations.
Originally, the regulator set the penalty at more than SEK 7 million (around USD 743,000), but the final sanction was reduced to SEK 4.8 million (roughly USD 510,000). Despite the discount, it remains the largest fine Kanon Gaming has received in 2025.
Why Kanon Gaming was fined
According to Spelinspektionen, the company failed to properly uphold its duty of care responsibilities. These rules require licensed operators to act quickly when players show signs of gambling problems, including providing support and intervention.
Dom: Varning och sanktionsavgift för Kanon Gaming Limited

The regulator highlighted that the shortcomings were both serious and long-lasting, which warranted a high fee. However, because Kanon Gaming cooperated throughout the investigation, the fine was lowered from the initial figure.
Issues around age groups
The authority also found that Kanon Gaming failed to distinguish correctly between different age groups. Players over 24 were treated the same as those over 18, a significant misstep in the eyes of Spelinspektionen. Younger players are considered more vulnerable to gambling-related harm, making this a key area of compliance.
Still, the company took quick steps to address these problems once flagged, which helped shorten the investigation process and played a role in reducing the final sanction.
Part of a wider crackdown
This penalty is part of Spelinspektionen’s ongoing efforts to tighten control over online gambling and protect younger audiences. Other companies have also been hit with sanctions this year, including Newera Frozen PTE Limited and Aprodi Limited, both accused of promoting gambling services through streaming platforms like YouTube and Twitch.
Several other operators, such as Gamevio Ltd, Bigskin Trading, Samilland.co, and Santeda International, have also been penalised under similar measures.
Kanon Gaming’s operations in Sweden
The company runs several iGaming sites in Sweden, including:
- casinoepic.se
- casinogami.se
- frejacasino.se
- lokecasino.se
While Kanon Gaming avoided the full weight of the SEK 7 million penalty, the fine still serves as a sharp warning. Spelinspektionen made it clear that compliance with responsible gaming rules is non-negotiable and that further failures could result in even harsher sanctions.
