If you’ve ever rage-quit a match or muttered something unprintable after a bad wipe, you’re not alone. According to a new analysis of Reddit discussions, some gaming communities are far more likely than others to vent their frustration with colourful language.

A recent study conducted by Streamproject DE, and shared with media outlets on December 8, analysed comment threads across major gaming subreddits to identify which fanbases swear the most online. The findings offer a snapshot of how different communities express frustration, excitement, and intensity during heated discussions.

ARC Raiders Tops the List

Taking the number one spot, ARC Raiders recorded the highest volume of curse words, with 1,447 instances detected across analysed Reddit comments. Despite not yet being fully released, discussions around difficulty spikes and high expectations appear to have players venting early and often.

Close behind, Dota 2 ranked second with 1,429 curse words, reinforcing its long standing reputation as one of the most emotionally intense competitive games. High-pressure ranked matches and team-based decision making continue to fuel passionate, and sometimes salty, conversations.

Rounding out the top three, Baldur’s Gate III logged 1,421 curse words, suggesting that even critically acclaimed RPGs with deep storytelling and moral choices can spark heated debate among fans.

The Rest of the Top 10

Several other major franchises also featured prominently in the rankings, highlighting how competitive and high-stakes gameplay often goes hand in hand with expressive language.

The top ten most foul-mouthed gaming communities, according to the study, are:

  1. ARC Raiders – 1,447
  2. Dota 2 – 1,429

Fortnite’s Surprisingly Low Ranking

One of the more unexpected findings sees Fortnite placed at 46th, with 1,015 curse words recorded. Despite its fast-paced gameplay and competitive moments, the data suggests Fortnite’s community may be comparatively less prone to venting frustration through strong language than many other gaming fanbases.

What the Study Looked At

The analysis was carried out by Streamproject DE and distributed to press by Easy Media, operating under Primal Cohort. Researchers examined Reddit comments posted over a two-week period, tracking the frequency of commonly used curse words to identify which gaming communities expressed the most heated reactions.

While the study focuses solely on Reddit and does not account for subreddit size or player base differences, it provides an interesting snapshot of how emotion plays out across gaming communities online.

Methodology

The study analysed comments from Reddit gaming communities over a two-week period, tracking the frequency of curse words such as “sht,” “fck,” “ss,” “mron,” “stupid,” and “d*mn.” The goal was to identify which video game communities generated the most expressive and heated discussions during that time.
