Subtick Shooting Consistency Upgraded
One of the headline changes is Valve’s ongoing work on subtick. Since CS2 launched, subtick has been one of the most talked-about features in the community, replacing the traditional server tickrate system from CS:GO. The goal is to make gunplay more responsive, but many players, especially in the competitive scene, have pointed out inconsistencies with how shots register.
This latest update brings “various improvements to subtick shooting consistency,” which should make gameplay smoother and fairer. For casual players, these tweaks may go unnoticed, but for pros and those climbing the ranks, reliable shot registration is everything. Even Counter-Strike co-creator Minh “Gooseman” Le recently weighed in on the controversy, admitting he’s unsure why Valve is so committed to subtick while still hoping the devs can strike the right balance. You can read more about his thoughts in our piece on Gooseman’s take on CS2 subtick, charms, and pets.
Grenade Sounds and Animations Overhauled
Valve has also revamped grenades across the board. Every type of grenade now has unique, high-fidelity sounds for drawing, inspecting, pulling the pin, and throwing. These changes not only add a new layer of immersion but also improve tactical clarity during matches, letting players better recognise what’s being used in the heat of battle.
New Weapon Skins: The Genesis Collection
The update introduces the Genesis Collection, featuring 17 community-made finishes. Unlike previous drops, this set comes with a new way to unlock skins through the Genesis Uplink Terminal, available as a weekly drop. Players can interact with an in-game “Arms Dealer,” who offers up to five different purchase opportunities per terminal. Prices vary depending on rarity and float, giving skin collectors a new system to play with.

Quality-of-Life Features
Beyond the headline features, Valve has made several small but welcome adjustments:
- Weapon Inspections: Players can now zoom with the mouse wheel and pan with Shift + drag while inspecting skins, stickers, or charms.
- Spectator Loadouts: When spectating, you can now view a teammate’s complete loadout, making it easier to follow strategies or understand gear choices in competitive play.

Tools for Map Creators
For the modding community, Valve has added cs_script, a JavaScript-based scripting system for CS2 maps. This tool opens the door for more creative, interactive custom content, giving mapmakers more freedom than ever before. To showcase the system, Valve released a demo map called script_zoo.vmap.

Final Thoughts
This update might not be the biggest CS2 patch we’ve seen, but it’s a solid mix of polish and innovation. Subtick improvements bring competitive clarity, the Genesis Collection spices up the cosmetic economy, and new scripting tools show Valve’s ongoing support for community content. With grenades getting a much-needed refresh and quality-of-life tweaks making the game smoother, this update keeps CS2 moving in the right direction.
