Counter-Strike is heading back to South America, and this time it is making history. Buenos Aires has officially been announced as the host city for the first CS2 Major of 2027, marking the first time Argentina will stage Valve’s biggest Counter-Strike event.

The tournament, titled FiReMAJOR Buenos Aires 2027, will run from May 31 through to June 20, 2027, and will be organised by FiReSPORTS.

Argentina Joins Counter-Strike History

With this announcement, Argentina becomes the 14th unique country to host a Counter-Strike Major. It also makes Buenos Aires the latest South American city to welcome a Valve-sponsored event, following IEM Rio 2022.

In a statement shared on social media, FiReSPORTS highlighted the cultural weight of the moment, describing Argentina as “the land of Messi and Maradona”, and comparing the country’s passion for Counter-Strike to its love of football. The organisers promised to give everything to deliver a memorable Major for fans around the world.

A Major Milestone For South America

The Buenos Aires Major will be the first CS2 Major of 2027, with HLTV previously reporting that the second Major of the year is expected to take place in Shanghai, China. Together, the two events underline Valve’s continued push to expand Counter-Strike’s global footprint.

For South America, this event represents another major step forward. While the region has long been known for its passionate fanbases, opportunities to host top-tier Counter-Strike events have been limited. FiReMAJOR Buenos Aires will now place Argentina firmly on the global CS2 map.

FiReSPORTS’s Biggest Challenge Yet

Hosting a Major will be a huge leap for FiReSports Over the past few years, the Argentine organiser has focused mainly on smaller-scale international events and regional tournaments, including the widely talked about subway-hosted event in Buenos Aires.

FiReSports’s previous tournaments have typically featured up to eight teams, far smaller than the 32-team format now used at Valve-backed Majors. That expansion, introduced starting from the Budapest Major cycle, means FiReMAJOR Buenos Aires will be the largest and most complex event the organiser has ever attempted.

Despite that, FiReSPORTS has already proven capable of attracting major names. Teams such as Virtus.pro, Spirit, Fnatic and NiP have all competed in FiRe-run events in recent years, helping build confidence ahead of 2027.

Local Passion Takes Centre Stage

FiReSports CEO Rodrigo Figueroa Reyes told HLTV that fans travelling to Buenos Aires would be surprised by the intensity of the local crowd. He described the city as a blend of European and Latin American influences, paired with a Counter-Strike community that brings genuine energy to live events.

That passion will now be tested on the biggest stage CS2 has to offer, with three weeks of competition expected to draw global attention to Argentina’s esports scene.

What We Know So Far

FiReMAJOR Buenos Aires 2027 is scheduled to begin on May 31 and conclude on June 20, 2027. It will be the second Counter-Strike Major ever held in South America, and the first ever in Argentina.

More details on venues, ticketing, and qualification pathways are expected to be revealed closer to the event, but for now, one thing is clear. Counter-Strike is coming to Buenos Aires, and history will be made.
