Liisa Matinvesi-Bassett, New Zealand country manager for PriceSpy, says: “With more people staying at home than ever before, it’s great to see people are keeping busy and passing the time by building LEGO and playing family-favourite board games.

“Interestingly, these findings also highlight the ever-changing shopping trends that are emerging as a result of COVID-19.  For example, normally we’d expect to see this level of click-through rates in the lead up to a key buying time, such as Black Friday or Christmas.  These however are unprecedented times.

“Surprisingly, the overall most popular and third most-popular LEGO products people clicked on between early April and now were the LEGO Harry Potter 71043 Hogwarts Castle, costing $699.95 and the LEGO Star Wars 75192 Millennium Falcon, costing $1499.99.”

Liisa concludes: “For those still wanting to buy something either online or in-store, we strongly recommend people don’t panic buy.

“Instead, we encourage shoppers to take their time and invest in conducting some important price research using a price comparison site, such as PriceSpy.  This important shopping step can help save people hundreds, if not thousands of dollars over in the long run.”
