Kristen Bell Confirmed As Amy Rose
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kristen Bell has closed a deal to voice Amy Rose in Sonic the Hedgehog 4. The film continues Paramount’s live action and CGI hybrid series based on the long running Sega video game franchise.
Bell joins returning voice cast members including Ben Schwartz as Sonic, Idris Elba as Knuckles, and Keanu Reeves as Shadow. Colleen O’Shaughnessey is also expected to return as Tails. On the live action side, Jim Carrey is set to reprise his role as Dr. Robotnik, alongside Lee Majdoub, James Marsden, and Tika Sumpter.
Jeff Fowler is back in the director’s chair for the fourth time, with Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher of Original Films, and Toru Nakahara producing once again.
Paramount has scheduled Sonic the Hedgehog 4 for release on 19 March 2027.
Who Is Kristen Bell?
Beyond film and television, Bell has built a strong reputation in voice acting. Her work as Anna in Frozen has been especially significant, earning her recognition as a Disney Legend within the studio. That experience makes her a natural fit for a high energy animated character like Amy Rose, who is famous for wielding her Piko Piko Hammer and having an unwavering crush on Sonic.
Ben Schwartz shared the news on Instagram shortly after the casting broke, posting a photo of himself and Bell with their respective characters and writing, “WE HAVE OUR AMY ROSE!!! And I could not be more excited!!!”
Amy Rose’s Return After Sonic 3 Tease
Amy’s arrival in Sonic the Hedgehog 4 was widely expected after her brief cameo in Sonic the Hedgehog 3’s mid credits scene. In that moment, Sonic is chased by an army of Metal Sonics before being rescued by Amy, setting up her larger role in the sequel.
While Amy is now officially confirmed, Metal Sonic remains unannounced. The character was teased in the same scene, but Paramount has not confirmed whether he will play a central role in the fourth film.
In the original Sega games, Amy Rose is a pink hedgehog who considers herself Sonic’s girlfriend, whether he agrees or not. She is one of the franchise’s most recognisable characters, so her introduction into the live action series marks a major expansion of the core cast.
Sonic’s Growing Box Office Success
Sonic the Hedgehog has quietly become one of Paramount’s most reliable franchises of the 2020s. Across three films, the series has surpassed $1 billion at the global box office. The third entry became the highest grossing instalment so far, earning more than $490 million worldwide.
Paramount has also been using each film’s mid credits scene to tease the next major character. Knuckles was introduced this way, followed by Shadow, and now Amy Rose.
With Kristen Bell now confirmed as Amy Rose in Sonic the Hedgehog 4, the pieces are clearly being put in place for the next big chapter. If the previous films are anything to go by, we can expect more fan favourite characters, bigger action set pieces, and even higher stakes when the film races into cinemas in March 2027.
