Spider-Man: Brand New Day Producer Amy Pascal Wants More Films, But Not Rushed

With Spider-Man: Brand New Day less than three weeks from theatres, longtime franchise producer Amy Pascal has again signalled she’d like Tom Holland’s Peter Parker story to keep going beyond this fourth instalment — but only if Sony and Marvel can justify it. Speaking to SFX magazine ahead of the film’s release, Pascal said the studios have to resist simply squeezing more out of the character for its own sake.

“You don’t want to just keep exploiting the same character,” Pascal explained. “I think that would make it unspecial for the world.” She added that the wider Spider-Man mythology still has plenty left to mine, noting “there are other things in the Spider-Man universe that I think are really fun for us to explore, because the comics were so varied and so creative.”

A New Trilogy Has Been the Plan Since 2021

Pascal’s hopes for an extended Holland-led saga are not new. Sony was developing a fourth MCU Spider-Man film by August 2019, and producer Amy Pascal revealed in November 2021 that it was intended to be the first in a new trilogy starring Holland. That announcement, made just weeks before No Way Home hit cinemas, effectively set the template Sony and Marvel have followed ever since.

Getting from that early pledge to an actual film took years. McKenna and Sommers returned as writers by February 2023, Cretton was hired to direct by October 2024, and the title—derived from the 2008 comic book storyline “Brand New Day” that reset Spider-Man’s status quo—was announced in March 2025. Filming took place from August to December 2025, with location filming in Glasgow, Scotland, and throughout England.

Why Peter Parker Vanished in the First Place

Pascal has previously explained the emotional engine driving the new film, telling Deadline in December 2024 how the story picks up on Peter’s choice to erase himself from everyone’s memory at the end of No Way Home. She said, “We have to deal with the fact that he decided he was going to give up being Peter Parker, and he was gonna focus on being Spider-Man, because being Peter Parker was too hard.”

That premise has carried through to the finished film, which finds Holland’s hero wanted by the producers to be a “proper Spider-Man” for the first time, on his own and fighting street-level crime in New York City rather than saving the multiverse.

Sony’s Spin-Off Scars Shape the Caution

Pascal’s careful framing comes with recent history attached. Sony’s Spider-Man-adjacent universe — built on Venom, Morbius, Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter — delivered mixed box office and largely poor reviews outside the first Venom film, and the studio is said to have shelved further expansion to concentrate on Brand New Day and the animated Beyond the Spider-Verse. Against that backdrop, Pascal’s insistence on being “smart” about any future spin-offs reads as a direct response to that run of misfires rather than a rejection of expansion altogether.

“I think Peter Parker should exist in live action, and I love what we’re doing with Miles in the animated movies,” Pascal said, adding “we just have to be really careful that we’re being smart about all this.” Her remarks leave the door open to more Peter Parker films alongside Sony’s animated Miles Morales and Spider-Verse output, without committing to specifics.

Record Presales Ahead of the July 31 Release

Early commercial signs suggest audiences share Pascal’s appetite for more. Brand New Day had the best first-day ticket pre-sales in the United States in five years since No Way Home in 2021, and it is estimated to earn $180–190 million in the United States and Canada in its opening weekend. The film’s marketing has also broken records: Sony stated that the trailer became the most-viewed ever with 718.6 million views in 24 hours, surpassing the previous film record holder, Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine, in eight hours, and also surpassing the overall 24-hour trailer record set by the video game Grand Theft Auto VI.

For Kiwi and Aussie fans, Sony has historically released its Holland-led Spider-Man tentpoles on the same worldwide weekend as the US, and early UK dating already points to a July 29 opening there ahead of the US release two days later — a pattern that should hold across New Zealand and Australian cinemas as well.

Whether Pascal’s caution translates into an actual fifth and sixth Holland film remains unconfirmed by Sony or Disney. But with Brand New Day poised for a huge opening and Pascal openly discussing the character’s future in the same breath as Miles Morales and the Spider-Verse line, the producer’s stated preference for quality over quantity looks set to guide Spider-Man’s next chapter — whatever shape it eventually takes.
